Night Of The Living Dead (1968) - Movie Review
Loved this movie, great job Jordan Peele!
My favorite black horror movie of the 70s is JD’s Revenge.
My favorite 90s black horror movies are Def By Temptation, The People Under The Stairs & Tales From The Hood.
Def By Temptation scared the crap outta me when i was a kid & i did not rewatch it until i reached adulthood. I like it now, it has a positive message & i watch it during spooky season. Here are some fun facts: James Bond III & Kadeem Hardison were also in Go Tell It On The Mountain & School Daze, those two, the late Bill Nunn & Samuel L. Jackson were also in School Daze. Jasmine Guy was considered for the role of the temptress. Joel’s grandmother played by the late Minnie Gentry is either the grandmother or great grandmother of Terrance Howard. She was instrumental in helping him getting his career off the ground. Laurence Fishburne allowed the cast to use his house to film the movie. John Canada Terrell who played in he first bartender was on the BET Hey Love commercial where he quoted the infamous line No My Brother You Got To Buy Your Own. He was also in She’s Gotta Have It, The Five Heartbeats & Boomerang. The second bartender was played by Guy Davis. He’s the son of the late Ruby Dee & the late Ossie Davis. He was also in Beat Street. Norman the married man was played by Rony Clanton. He was also in The Education Of Sonny Carson & Juice & he was also on The Godfather Of Harlem. My favorite 90s black horror movie is Tales From The Hood.
It's hard to believe that troma distributed this It doesn't feel like a troma movie
The ending was a bombshell. How are they just going to glaze over the fact that Billy dies, i cant get over it
I’m here taking notes 📝
It was hatian traditions not African..Africans are adherent to Christianity and Islam..Hatians are dherent to hoodoo..not voo doo but hoodoo..just passing through skimming came across this..but good little stop nice opinion..keep up good work.
We liked it. Season one was better.
I loved that movie AND it scared me half to death! Also I love your commentary on horror movies.
No, it didn't "scare" me and it did feel like Se7en at least in the police investigation scenes. But I'd argue thriller is soft-horror. Mystery, suspense, thrillers are sub genres in the horror category. They are meant to disturb you but in an enticing manner. Maybe you'd categorize them differently, but they're not meant to make you cry or laugh 🎭 and that sets them apart. I thought the victims' bodies were pretty scary looking, but I think I felt Injustice more for the victims than fear. This show in the past two seasons shows a lot of Injustice and just makes you kind of mad, more than anything. When we do see bad people die, it feels better but there's a lot of children suffering in these two seasons. And there were definitely some white people I'd like to see face some consequences these two seasons. God is not helping any black people in this show. Things are bleak with these demons.
The Rodney King couch scene actually did creep me out too. Her smile 🫣
Yes, I agree. I actually had to take a break for like a day or two and then I went back to watching it. I'm actually still watching it and I just had to look up to see if anyone else felt the way I was feeling or I am feeling watching. This is kind of hard for me to watch because I'm so tired of the Injustice that we live in this country and in the world And the fact Dad we hardly ever are pretty much never get Justice for our people for us. I guess you're trying to show the true world of how it is to be a black person in the world because it's not just America. I mean I guess we could move to countries that are run by our own people I really think about doing that because I am getting tired of living in fear
This shows like how us people they call black people go through in this country and to be honest living in America can actually feel like a horror film or serious in so many ways. And I'm talking about four people innocent just normal black people right? Trying to navigate their life in America. Maybe I just gave some film producer, Creator and idea because this movie really gives the idea. I mean you might as well go all the way. You don't have to put any supernatural in. It can make it as realistic as you want because it's real out here. I mean I mean I don't need to give out anymore ideas. But yeah here you can even use actual cases. You can actually use all of the murderers that happened when Donald Trump was President. It was a lot. I mean of innocent black people especially the unsolved ones. The ones today claim were suicides but it didn't make sense. People being hung at parks on trees and crazy places with no clothes on naked. There was a lot of those all over the country and they all work quickly called suicide. Rich didn't make sense to the families for a lot of reasons and there's other cases like Brianna, Taylor and her boyfriend. There's so many they could do a movie or a series of all the hate crimes that happened to black folks under Donald Trump's presidency
Very low voice in video
Watching it again on Svengoolie tonight .....and I think you may be right. I think I like it more than the first film. And the first film is really damned good, too!
I don’t really like horror, but this felt like thriller. Like you said, avid gore movie people were disappointed about that. As a tarot reader, it was the lack of research on tarot for me.
It was fast paced. But there were a lot of characters, so that’s probably why.
Im gonna watch it 🔥
this video was 🔥 great list 🫱🏽🫲🏾
Thank you 🙏🏾
Nino Brown🎉😂
Not a horror villain
Great comedians. I loved the Movie NOPE. And Get out.
They basically disagreed w each other
No, one is from idea to plan. One is in executing the plan. You start with the absurd and make it normal when writing, then when putting it to film, you craft the scene or group of scenes or movie at a grounded normal start, then make an exponential curve up to a climax of the initial weird idea.
They didn't disagree, they just worked it back then forwards talking about slightly different phases of production.
....and I'm obsessed with race, so I just shoveled a ton of that shit in there too, and voila!
Agreed. 99% of everything they've done is garbage. Hearing them explain it makes all the let downs makes sense
I agree! Most sketches where Aiiiight and the horror movies have been trash other then the new Pet Cemetery by them. I highly recommend it top 2 of my fave horror movies
@@Xayc420XD69you clearly didn’t watch get out
Lol
@@benjaminwiler8271 I have and thought it was mid, the begining was good but the middle and ending was weak in my opinion especially compared to key n peeles masterpiece of Pet Cemetery.
Horror shits
Us was dumb. lol. I imagine it’s like Jordan’s jack off material.
These men should not be giving comedy advice
The original DEI of comedy
I liked it but it was dumb and silly as hell
Yeah, the film had a decent concept but it had alot of silly moments
@@theblueporch you were right about the graphics they were really good especially the hanging scene and ladder scene
yeah, the visual fx were the best part of the movie imo, unfortunately, they couldn't capitalize any further
Nice review!
Thank you 🙏🏾
I love Rob zombie, I really like black sunshine
What?
Another great take on horror, great video. 💯
Thank you 🙏🏾
awesome video bro
Thank you 🙏🏾
Free speech is more important than your feelings, snowflake.
Wanting better representation in horror movies makes me a snowflake 🤔
The problem with trying to avoid tropes, you often create new ones. Rather than worrying about what is a trope, a writer should worry about what makes a good story
That’s a good point
Glad to see you back with a new video. Though, you might wanna work on the audio, as i could barely make out what you were saying. Still, awesome video, & i agree, the savcrificial black character is the worst example of black horror tropes. In my opinion, onr of the worst cases, is in the original IT, where Tim Reid's character is attacked & held hostage, & therefore prevented from participating in the final battle with Pennywise. True he doesn't die, but he still counts as a sacrificial black character, in my opinion.
Appreciate the feedback, I will definitely work on that audio 😅 That’s also a great example!
Hope things change, it's been going for too long.
Agreed! At least we have Jordan Peele!
@@theblueporch Yeah he's given some solid movies, i really like his approach
A revitalization is needed. Johnathan Majors as the lead.
Thanks man, for shining a light on this classic hip hop horror tune!! This song is certainly dark & creepy, & the Geto Boys often touched on dark subject matter, that wasn't common, in hip hop, which is why all the major labels, rejected them. My aunt's ex husband, signed these guys to his, at the time fledgling label, Rap-A-Lot. Geto Boys were the #1 act, on that label. I actually got to meet Scarface, of the Geto Boys, in person, when i lived in Houston, briefly, with my aunt, & her ex hubby. Also, i agree, this classic tune should become a Halloween song, that gets played every year.
You make some really great points here, man!! Well, i guess you can consider Son of Ingagi, to be the very first black horror film. It sounds awesome! More people need to know about this movie, & your channel!
Wow!!! Man, you made me see Night of the Living Dead, & Ben's role, in it, in a whole new light!! I can't believe this video has been out for a whole year, & has next to no likes & comments!! Again i say, your channel deserves more views!!!
This came from Troma Films
I give Blacula 5stars
Fun fact: Def By Temptation was filmed in spring of 1988 before Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing went into production. The film was released in 1990 when they couldn’t find a distributor, New Line Cinema was one of the studios they tried to have distribute the film. A lot of talented people behind the scenes besides Ernest Dickerson worked on this movie such as Darnell Martin, and Abdul Malik Abott. Music and Culture critic Nelson George is one of the producers on this movie.
The stunningly beautiful Kasi Lemmons!
The origins of candy man is black slave and white master's intermingling. If you dont understand the context as you stated then you obviously only pay attention to the race aspect
i’ve got to watch this! thanks for the info and review!
