OZZY OSBOURNE: THURSDAY MARCH 18TH 1982: RANDY RHOADS LAST SHOW AT THE KNOXVILLE CIVIC COLISEUM: DIARY OF A MADMAN TOUR: Upon entering the coliseum after buying my tour shirt and ticket 🎫 stub processing: I noticed the stage was set up like a medieval castle with arches and bats 🦇 flying around the top of them. There was a staircase leading up to Tommy Aldridge’s Drumkit. The top left of Tommy was where Donny Airey’s keyboards were set up. Stage right and left had to cages with which Randy Rhoads would appear from the floor stage right and Rudy Sarzo stage left. OZZY had a throne of which he would appear out of to start the show to Over the Mountain. Tommy had his drum tech dressed as an Executioner stand beside his kit with his arms crossed. The staircase had a small section that would open and a small dwarf named: Ronnie (after Ronnie James Dio the new singer for Black Sabbath-replacing OZZY) and hand OZZY towels and water between songs. Little did we all know that later in the show: the executioner would bring the dwarf out to be hung from the rafters and later he would cut off his head using a guillotine! At the end of the show OZZY climbed onto a giant mechanical hand that OZZY stood on top of and launched unspecified meat 🥩 🍖 into the audience! Of course it was all an a theatrical act as the dwarf appeared to take a bow with OZZY and the band. When OZZY smiled we noticed he put vampire 🧛♀️ teeth in! We laughed hard! I went to the show with my friend Richard and his older brother Greg who was 18 at the time. We were 13. Greatest show on earth! Richard and I were both terrified and thrilled at what we witnessed! Unfortunately the next morning all that excitement and energy was gone as we learned that Randy Rhoads perished in a plane crash in Florida. Richard and I played drums but Greg played guitar 🎸 and he definitely took it the hardest! One of the greatest guitarist of our generation and had just won the new guitarist of the year by Guitar Player magazine. Rest In Peace Randy Rhoads your music lives on! Sincerely, Gary Lagstrom
He did maintain his excellence but I’m not sold he got “better” . Tough to beat his earlier stuff
I remember seeing this as a kid
They should make a show called beyond 3000.
Thanks for this. Do you happen to have the other episodes in the series?
Do you have any more WTVD videos from 1985-1991 and 1996 @the VHS files, I'm a Heart of Carolina native, remember the Peoples Court, Oprah, Miriam Thomas and etc 😊
Please upload more PPV commercials. Id watch these all day as a kid
Can you post TBN commercials from back in the day?
RIP
Is George Jones in this?
I'm not sure, I don't think he performed but he may have attended the event
"I'll take questions, but it's going to be difficult." Difficult because he had no case. Grand jury dismissed it almost immediately.
It sounds like you’re referencing one of the twists in the O.J. Simpson trial saga. If the grand jury dismissed a case quickly, it suggests that the evidence or arguments might not have been solid enough to move forward. That trial had so many layers, legal strategy, media frenzy, and public opinion all tangled together. Do you have thoughts on how it was handled overall?
@@theVHSfiles it was a clear-cut framejob and the LADA simply failed to catch the real killers. Read the Sealed Envelope by Sheryll Shipley. Also, if you have any Hard Copy, Geraldo, etc. especially with the Brown family from 1994-1996, those would be absolutely killer. Pun intended.
What a delight to see a TV show episode in its entirety even with some grainy static with the opening analog channel, the commercials, and closing split credits showing the relevant headline national news of the moment!
There’s something special about watching an old TV broadcast in its entirety-static and all! 📺 The commercials, analog glitches, and even the closing credits paired with news clips really capture a slice of that moment in history. It’s like stepping into a time capsule and reliving the exact experience viewers had back then. Do you have a favorite show or broadcast that takes you back?
Thank you for posting this! xox
Thanks for watching! Hope you enjoyed it!!!
I remember hearing of King Diamond for the first time when I was about 11 in 88 or so. Back then, rumors were rampant and there was little to no way to get to the truth. There were a lot of urban legends and other lore that got spread around by word of mouth and of course, became more and more exaggerated through the retelling. I had heard that KD was the real deal- a true satanist. I'm sure there were stories of people doing crazy things because of his music. I was actually scared to listen to the tape when I got it- lol. I really thought that something was going to happen to me, somehow. I really can't express enough how real the outlandish stories were back then, especially because everything you heard was from other teenagers. Strange times, strange times.
Wow, that’s such a vivid memory, thank you for sharing!! It’s wild to think about how word of mouth rumors would shape the way we experienced music back then. King Diamond definitely carried an aura of mystery that fueled so many urban legends!
@@theVHSfiles Thanks! I realize that every generation says, "We were the last generation to....[whatever]" I have to say, though that I am truly grateful to have experienced both sides of the Internet era. Obviously, instant access to practically all the music is great, but there was a real joy in the anticipation of an album from a band you love coming out (on Tuesday, of course.) Depending on how close to a city you lived, new music was severely limited. There were times where a friend would get a hold of an album, and everyone would borrow it and make copies. Plus, often times, you had no clue whether or not an album was good or bad until you wasted your hard earned grass cutting money on it.Sometimes, you'd hear a song you liked on the radio, but if the DJ didn't say who it was, or if you wren't paying attention you'd have to wait hours or days to hear the song again. Even then- you still might miss the title, lol. I tell my 25 yo daughter "Back in the day" stories all the time, and usually her response is "That's crazy" or "That would be terrible" I recently told her that there were days where you'd go to a friend's house hoping to hang out, and if they weren't home, that was it. You had no idea where they were or when they'd be back, and you certainly couldn't call them. The saying "Youth is wasted on the young" is so accurate. Take care! I've been enjoying the content very much!
"Now you're being unpleasant, Wallace." Great line. If a full-scale, analytical biography of Mike Wallace is ever written, the "Now .." quote would be a fine, if strong, title, IMO.
Haha, absolutely! That line really captures Wallace’s no nonsense style. A biography titled Now You're Being Unpleasant, Wallace! would be perfect and unapologetic, just like the man himself. I’d read that in a heartbeat!!!
@@theVHSfiles I love your exclamation point after "Wallace." Imagine the many people he interrogated (er, interviewed) over the course of his career who thought that. NOW YOU'RE BEING UNPLEASANT, WALLACE! 😠
@@theVHSfiles I'd read it too, in a heartbeat (or in the beat of a ticking stopwatch -- get the 60 MINUTES reference?) 😁

Fun fact(s): Their FLIX channel would eventually launch on August 1st of that year (1992). Then, by around mid-1999 or so, FLIX would use the same rating info that The Movie Channel was using at the time. And according to an old article, by around late-August/early-September 2000, FLIX underwent a refresh.
Great fun facts! 📺 It's cool how FLIX evolved over the years, starting with its launch in 1992 and adopting The Movie Channel's rating system later on. That 2000 refresh must have been an interesting shift, too! Thanks for sharing this bit of TV history!
Fun fact: It was also during the time where FLIX used their pre-2003 version of their ID's and Tonight schedule lineups, too. In the updated version of the Tonight schedule from around 2003, FLIX used to show the TMC variant, prior to May 2006.
it’s interesting how closely they aligned with TMC back then. Thanks for the deep dive into TV history, love hearing details like these!
@@theVHSfiles Even though you say that you might not take requests, do let me know in advance about if you find on what I seek. Thanks. And also, prior to the year 2003, FLIX would also show what would be on Sundance Channel (now SundanceTV). In May 2006, when TMC underwent a refresh, perhaps that when FLIX began to "exclusively" show the Showtime variant only, both before and after the FLIX promos: Previously, the Showtime variant was "reserved" to being shown before the promos (as evidenced on a recording of a FLIX promo break from December 17th, 2003).
