The Christmas Chronicles, Part 4... the Magi

GREAT message! 100% agree with your take on these verses. I, too, fell into that “manager” trap back in the satellite world. I thought I was being “the savior” by taking on the burden. They were “coming after” my team one-by-one (for no real reason other than hate) so I mistakenly thought if I became manager I could save their jobs. Within a little over a year, not only were several of them gone …. but I had just had enough of their evil pressure! Here’s the thing: I did pray about taking that job. After many prayers, and a positive sign …. I applied & got the job. At first, I thought “yay, God heard my prayers and gave me a sign! I must have done the right thing!” But little old me had NO clue that God’s REAL purpose in sending me in that direction was to get me OUT of there! I was happy staying under the radar. I, too, did a much better job working in the background…and it’s where I’ve always preferred to be. But God knew what was coming. By my taking that leadership position, I WAS able to help a few folks …. but the writing was on the wall. If I hadn’t retired (and THANK GOD I was at the right age to) they woulda’ eventually fired me. They had an agenda. God knew it. I did NOT. BTW, your daily presentation of THE WORD is spot-on! You’ve found your true calling, I believe. Good presentation, excellent quality, and best WORDs ever! Don’t get discouraged if you only see a few “followers”. I’ve fallen into THAT trap in my past …. and I can tell you …. if you reach “just one” you’ve succeeded. Of all the songs, books, stories I’ve ever created … there’s this one guy out in California who reached back and said he’d been positively touched …. and he’s the one who matters. Fame is a hollow lie. Keep listening to THE One and we’ll keep reaching A one! What you are doing here MATTERS!

I too have so many Christian brothers and sisters who are being engaged in different darkness activities & who are playing different ungodly/worldly life styles without caring/afraid of God at this moment even though they have already taken baptism in the name of JESUS CHRIST OF NAZARETH, Right. Some of servants/leaders in certain Churches we have seen or being seen how they are carrying the free gospel life of God towards the path of business purposes/transactions instead of giving/sharing free gospel message without charging (MATTHEW CHAPTER 10 VERSE 8). Anyhow be remained blesseth in Christ and go ahead wisely with the situation of this AGE/WORLD INDIVIDUALLY. AMEN👏🙏🔥🌹

With all due respect, I think you are missing the message here. But it comes as a result of the philosophy of the Eurocentric Theological Model. It is what we inherited. Jeremiah 16:19. Abraham, Isaac and Jacob did not have the Law. So, comparing their situation to it is a stretch. It is NOT a comparison between Judaism and Christianity. It is a comparison between being a slave to the Law, or being free in the Law. The Torah is the Law of Liberty. It is the instructions from YHVH on exactly how he wants to be worshipped. It is the the schoolmaster that leads us to the Messiah. When I graduated from school I did not abandon all I had learned. I took what I learned and applied it to life after graduation. The purpose of the Law was to protect us from engaging in paganism. It was how we learned to not make a golden calf. The previous chapter explains it. Galatians 3:23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. "Kept" is "ephrouroumetha." It means to be garrisoned, or protected. We were protected from paganism by the instructions in the Law. Galatians 3:12 says the man who does the Commandments will live in them. The alternative is to die. The one we obey is the one we serve. We can serve YHVH in righteousness, or we can die from serving other gods. Romans 6:15-16. Paul told Timothy that the Scriptures he had from his youth were the instructions in righteousness. The Scriptures Timothy had from his youth were the Torah and the Prophets. There was no New Testament. Paul was still writing it. When Israel disobeyed YHVH, they still knew his Name. It was his Name they called on when they repented of their sins. Repenting of their sins was to stop engaging in the erecting of groves, or trees honoring the goddess Ashtoreth, and carved images of Baal. Judges 3:7, 1 Kings 11:33. Every person wants to express their pursuit of their Creator in some way. The Law explained what was appropriate regarding the religious practices of people who wanted a relationship with the Elohim of Israel. Before Moses came the children of Israel, and the rest of the world, engaged in behaviors that were an abomination to YHVH. He gave his Law so all the world could know what was right to do if they wanted him to be their Elohim. YHVH made an agreement with the mixed multitude that left Egypt. That was the Covenant made at Mt Sinai. That Covenant came with a blessing for obedience, and a curse for disobedience. Jesus removed the curse. I am blessed by obeying the Torah. But, if I fail to do it I am not cursed. That is why I am not under the Law. I am not subject to the curse. That is what Paul is trying to explain. The Feasts of YHVH and the Sabbath are the prophetic shadows of the Messiah. In fact, the Torah is the authentication of the claim that Jesus is Messiah. Luke 24:44. That is one of the meanings of "fulfilling the Law." That's what Jesus said He came to do. Jesus said the Law was about Him. John 5:46. The Feasts of YHVH now serve as memorials to the life of the Messiah. They are the ones that His Father told us to observe. Jesus obeyed the Law perfectly. If He had not, He would have been a sinner. We know this because 1 John 3:4 says, "Sin is transgression of the Law." Following Jesus would be trying to do what He did. We have failed, and we may still fail. But, we are not cursed for it because of the redemptive work of the Messiah. I may observe Passover this year. I may not. I may observe Sukkot. I may not. But, the one thing I DON'T want to do is obey the decrees of men that honor THEIR gods. In Revelation 18, a voice from heaven says about Babylon, "come out of her, my people." It is those who call on the Name of Jesus who are still living in spiritual Babylon. That is why a voice from heaven is calling us out. Be free in Torah. The entire OT is full of prophecies of the Messiah. I think YHVH was smart enough to have all of his holidays be about Him. Nothing else makes sense. 1 John 5:3 "Loving Elohim IS keeping his Commandments. It is not difficult."

What a thoughtful and detailed response! Thank you very much. You are exactly the type of person I had hoped would respond. It is hard to be as detailed as I would like in a short podcast, so I apologize for NOT being as specific as I could have been. In reading the words of Jesus, Paul and the other writers I most DEFINITELY agree with you about the beauty and the power of the Torah. That is what Paul preached from, that is what Jesus referenced when He taught - that is the source of encouragement and learning that the first century Church referenced in their studies. Perhaps my cynicism of 1st century Judaism (I am open to correction here) was that Judaism had shifted from Torah only to Torah PLUS. I have some friends in the Messianic Jewish community and I would say the Judaism THEY practice does not resemble what I read bout Judaism in the 1st Century. It is fresh, vital and beautiful. They see the New Testament as a continuation of what we read in the Torah. I have other Messianic Jewish friends who view Paul as errant in what he writes, and do not reference his letters at all. I won't lie - that confuses me a bit. But I a not of that world, so I guess confusion is not a surprise. Again - thank you for your response. I am studying it in more detail. I appreciate you. God's Blessings to you and yours! Paige

@@PCGarwood Your observation is right on point! In Matthew 23, Jesus to says to obey the Pharisees when they sit in Moses' seat, but to NOT obey the things they add. When in Moses' seat, they read to Torah. It was not a place from where an opinion was offered. It was not a place from where someone would take liberties. I think many of the Messianic Jewish community has been far too influenced by the belief that the Roman interpretation of Scripture is correct. THAT is why they have a problem with Paul. They believe what someone else said about his writings, not what the writings actually say. If we always remember that he constantly promotes obedience, we will be OK. Really. Just review his words about being obedient. He even makes sure to say we should obey YHVH, not men. The problem is that he says "the Law is not what saves you." And, that is true. The Law is what you do AFTER you get saved. He says the Law is not what makes us righteous. And that is true also. The blood of Jesus is what has washed away my sin. But, showing faith in Jesus is done by obeying His Father. The Law is what sanctifies us. It sets us apart from those other folks... I'm still gonna screw up. I can guarantee it. But I am on THIS path, and not THAT path. I observe THESE days, not THOSE days. I eat THESE things, not THOSE things. I do all that because I love my Elohim, and his Son, which he sent to die in my place. I don't HAVE to do these things. I GET to do these things. I know THESE THINGS are what pleases him. Just for the sake of saying so, I consider myself not a member of any of the labeled groups. I've started my own. I am 1ST8K, the first 8,000. In the book of Acts, this new thing started with 5,000+3,000 Jews who had come to town for Shavu'ot. Now, they knew WHY they had been observing the Spring Feasts. Jesus is the Passover Lamb, not the Easter ham! Blessings to you!

The journey was never meant to be fast or easy. I realize that salvation is not a badge to reminisce about; or even baptism as a club membership. This journey takes perseverance, stamina and being intentional. Jesus showed us this during his time on earth. Time with the Father. Always referring to the scriptures and showing compassion. The enemy is always there trying to distract, tempt, and pull us away from God. Armor up! Thanks Paige

Really been enjoying chewing on what you, oh great teacher, have been feeding in this series! I found a few years ago that I needed to read & meditate on a more personal level … stop listening to only what everyone else was teaching. As I developed that personal daily Bible reading routine, I found it sometimes makes it hard for me to follow yet another every-day study on TH-cam. That’s me. It’s just how I seem to have to function. But I LOVE the fact that this DEEP “What I Believe” series is only once-weekly. It just seems to “strangely” 😊 amend what I hear at church on Sunday, what I’m reading on my own daily, and what I’m hearing from current events. Keep ‘em coming!

Very Cool again Paige. Counter Point is something i have just run into this week at my other favorite venue Scotts' Bass Lessons (SBL) Academy. Michael League founder of Snarky Puppy has joined the teaching staff and posted a lesson collection about Composition. And in a segment he illustrates how he used counter point in a tune on Culture Vulture. His lesson collection is short but has some good take aways. One being counter point. Specially how a counter point bass line can work against a melody in the upper register. The other take away I really liked was use simple ideas and expand them vs trying to put a bunch of musical ideas into a single song. I am absolutely going to get my hands on the book you mentioned and dig into it. Thank you. :)

Hi Paige I returned to school at age 40 the years 1992-1994. Indiana University, Bloomington Indiana. Little recognized but possible #3 in USA music school rankings with it's Jacobs School of Music. Violin virtuoso Joshua Bell it's world recognized graduate as well as the Brecker Brothers. Like you I thought they would toss me out for just asking to take courses. But they took me in wholeheartedly. Lawrence Hurst Bass Chair finding me a Masters' student as my string bass instructor. 3 semester of string bass. The Afro-American Diaspora Studies Department also took me in. And the Director of the "Soul Revue" R&B Band gently steered me to The Afro-American Choral Ensemble at my audition. The Ensemble took me in for 2 semesters as their bassist with 3 keyboards writing all my parts and a drummer to lock with and 99 other voices to sing with. Huge change for my life. David Baker teaching History of Jazz and Soul, best friend of Quincy Jones. And William "Bill" (Dr.B) Banfield teaching History of Black Composers. I was ready to become a professional student. My chops were the best they ever were in 1994. 30 years later and retired from FedEx (almost long story) I am devotion to Perfect Practice makes Perfect. 2020 Covid and you guys with Donny and the Zoom sessions inspired my learning Ableton DAW and some Bandcamp posted original work. After a year of being homeless in 2021 Chris and I have been this last year of 2022-23 in Tucson and I am once again composing electric bass solo. Trying to master my one little TC-looper pedal and my best addition Addictive Keys and a Novation Midi keyboard. I think like you all these years as a sideman the realization finally confronted my confidence and I took on the lead role and responsibility for my musical future. Mom would say, "If your going to do it right , do it yourself." I dig that you put the effort into this series. Thanks again.
