As an old man, I am just starting to learn the ukulele.
Almost ten months ago, I had the bright idea that I wanted to get a ukulele... and tonight, I had the amazing idea to start a TH-cam channel about my adventure learning to play the uke...
I do not know how to play any instruments, and I am starting from scratch. I have not taken any lessons yet, besides watching a very few tutorials, and I wanted to share my experience as I go.
And so it begins!

Practice Session. Counting and Strumming. My Struggle and I am Still doing it wrong🤣
Just a little demonstration of my struggle with trying to count my strumming patterns..
I don't know why this is hard for me, but it is. I want to be transparent on my uke journey so it will encourage others that are struggling with something also.
It is OK to laugh, this tickles me too.
Thank you for watching!
Edit: I found out I am still not doing the count and strum incorrectly, but we are getting closer! 🤣

This is a special day! A boy and his uke meet for the first time! When I built this little DIY Soprano build kit, I had no idea that it was possibly the grandest ukulele ever made. Today we went to visit one of my grandsons and I had the idea to give it to him. His mom and dad agreed to let him set on the couch and have ukulele time each day. He is just over two years old. Santa came a little early this year, and dropped off a uke for repair. He isn't getting it back!😂 This is a Kamoa 500-GC Grand Concert Ukulele. It has a 16 inch scale, hence the grand concert part. This little tune is the result of noodling on my new aNueNue Green Bire UC-110 concert ukulele. This little tune reminds me of a cowboy playing his guitar while riding across the desert. Singing a melancholy song to the gentle lope of his horses stride. I hope you enjoy this simple little tune as much as I do. Uke on!

What did you do for the lifting bridge?
@Mandobird1 Hello. I have not done the repair on this uke yet. It still has the lifting bridge. But I did just repair another uke and replace the bridge on that one. I will be repairing this one very soon. I just have to heat the bridge and carefully remove it from the uke. Then just clean everything up and reglue the Bridge back into place. I may try to do a how to video when I repair this one. I do appreciate you watching! Thank you
@@PawPawUke Sounds interesting, looking forward to seeing the repair.
Very sweet
Dennis, I enjoyed your video. Lotsa ways to skin a possum You came up with a creative solution that works. Well done. Thank you. Rick

Very nice background and setting. Sun going down over the mountain. Mountain lion on your mind at all times!! Ho ho.
@@richdavis4007 Thank you!! That mountain lion could get me some veiws!!
I think your playing isn't bad at all. I just thought about which song I could share on YT and there came nothing to my mind. What song was the very first melody you played… May I ask where you have your tabs from? The uke is sounding great by the way. I was thinking about buying it too but it is a little to expensive for me at the moment. Have a great day and thanks for sharing…
@Teeum5 I can't play any songs and I don't know any tabs. All of my playing is just me setting down with my ukuleles and figuring out what sounds good. I can't even play Lava.😅 I have just enjoyed doing my own thing up to now, but I do want to start learning some regular songs. Thanks for watching!
Wow, that sounds great. Have a great time figuring out more melodies and have fun with your ukes.
Gorgeous flaming, gorgeous tone! Congrats! I used to have an Opio, they are super slick!

@@PawPawUke Super!
Your video technique is much improved.
@phyllismorris94 I made sure I figured out how to flip the video for the correct orientation, because of ypur question yesterday. I am not willing to admit how long I had to stare at my tablet before I figured out how to do it.🤣 Read the instructions, you say??? I don't think you understand how this works, and neither do I.😂🤣
Thank you for showing your new Uke. I enjoy the way you play, just great. I can not play like that, my fingers don't play at all. Keep it up, I hope you get to 100 soon.
@@Stroker1... I am sorry you have a problem with your fingers that hinders your playing uke. I have some problems with my fingers also, but I have found I am able to do a good bit on the ukulele that I didn't think was possible for me. I decided that I am just going to be so good at what I can do, that nobody notices all the stuff I can't do. Don't give up, just keep playing whatever way you can. I love hearing anyone play that loves what they are playing. Seeing someone enjoy their ukulele, is just the pentacle of music in my eyes.
Great work and beautiful end product.😊😊😊😊
@@richdavis4007 Thank you, friend!
Question: Are you left-handed. Is that the reason for the unique strumming style?
@phyllismorris94 Hello. Thank you so much for the question. No one has really asked me about the way I strum, and I have not found anyone else that strums this way as of yet. I am using my tablet on portrait mode to film the videos... this flips the image like a mirror. I need to try to do them a different way, I am not very experienced at recording myself.😆 I am, and I play, right-handed. The "unique" strumming style is just from me playing with the uke like a kid and not doing any real lessons.🤣 I actually started strumming regular, but as I was playing so much a day I ended up laying my hand down onto the soundboard and just using my fingers to strum with a flicking motion. I found this let me play a lot longer without tiring as easy. My fingers have some problems, but I also found that I can make some of those problems work for me. I hope that explains it a bit. I may try to do a video to show some of the problems I have with my fingers and the ways I have worked around that to keep playing. I have also found this allows a lot of precision when strumming, with enough practice that is. I can strum any one, two, or three strings independently of the others. I don't know how to do this in a sond or anything yet, but I'm working on it. I think there are a lot of possibilities for some unique sounds. Again, thank you for the question and watching my vid.
I posted a new video this morning. I worked extra hard to learn how to edit the video where I could flip it so it didn't have everything backwards. I hope that helps some. Again, thank you for your comment.
Love the color !!
Love the brightness and your strumming !

I have 2 ohanas. A mahagony pineapple and a spruce. I love them !
@bonniedavidson936 I have just had this one Ohana, but I am impressed with it. I would definitely give another one a shot. I love pineapple ukes and I hope to try an Ohana pineapple one day. I am a fan of spruce also! Thank you for your comment
@@PawPawUke I really like my Ohana PKC -25G. Concert mahogany. I think I paid about 250 dollars I put worth clear strings on and it is so pretty I also put those strings on my spruce Ohana. But I much preferred the pineapple. Just something about it is perfect for me. I don’t think I’ll need an another ukulele!!
awesome job on the build and thanks for sharing your thoughts on it! the sound sample is sounding pretty good, especially for what it is! what I'm hearing most is someone got bit by the soprano bug. 😉 careful!! it can continue spreading!!!!
Sounds great! Looks good too.
Folsom Prison Blues
That's it! Thank you!
Nice sound, like the low G , my 2 favorite players have low Gs
I have two ukes with low G, I still love reentrant tuning, but some ukes are just made for low G. Thank you
Beautiful mango Uke. I love Ohana instruments. Some day I will own one I hope.
@MichelePrice-t6m they are great ukes. I really love this mango one a lot. I am not the biggest fan of MOP but the sound that comes out of this thing has made me hold onto it until now. I am actually thinking for selling or trading this one off as I just have to let some go at some point.. There are just too many ukes I want to try. Thank you for the comment.
I like to put words and vocalizations to my noodlings, especially on keyboard. That's how I write songs. It's good to practice chords as Freddy says below and can be a useful form of relaxation.
Sometimes just putting chord progressions together makes a pretty tune , I sometimes do that but never seem to be able to go back and play the same again. Lol
@freddybeem2322 same. I have lost many little tunes like that. I couldn't figure out exactly what I was doing when I went back. Now when I do get a little melody that I like, I just hit the repeat button and won't play anything else until I feel like I have it down. I have just started that, so will see if it works.
😊😊😊😊😊😊

Will you be teaching your stumming method ? Good start on your channel
@freddybeem2322 Hello! I am still trying to figure out what I am doing, but I certainly don't mind sharing that as I go. I have not been trying to do a particular style, I have just been doing what felt good. Keeping my hands very close to the strings really helps me, do to a condition in my fingers that makes them lock up if I stretch for something. As I go, I will try to share what works for me in case it is beneficial for others. Thank you!
Thanks great sounding strum
you should tell us what you are playing and how you play it.
@Stroker1... Hello! Thank you so much for that question, it warmed my heart! These are just my own little tunes that I have strung together while practicing ukulele. I can't really teach anyone how to play Ukulele, but I do plan to share how I am learning and the techniques I am using. I have operated a lot of machines and tools and I am just treating the uke the same way, learning how to operate it the most efficient way. Again, thank you.
That is a really good quality ukulele. (I don't have one, but have read impressive things about it). Expensive too. Did you buy it new or used. Will you be doing any singing along with playing ukulele?
@phyllismorris94 Hello! I bought the Baton Rouge UTM-C new, which is rare for me. You can get them at Studio Gears right now for $179. It did not cost me any extra tax or shipping. Also, if you sign up for their emails, they will send you a discount code. I love to sing, but mostly in the shower. That could be possible later, but I really want to learn how to make the ukulele sing for me. Thank you.
