Newfoundland Music by Harry Hibbs
Harry Hibbs "At the Caribou" 1973 www.bellislandboy.com
The original show was known as "At the Caribou" featuring Harry Hibbs with and Johnny Burke and the Caribou Showband. However in 1973 the show in this taping featured Terry Hynes and Shrimp cocktail for one season before the show was renamed the "Harry Hibbs Show" and the taping was relocated to the Newfoundland club in Cambridge (Galt) and once again featured Johnny Burke with his new band "Eastwind"

This version of Canada is sadly gone…
WOW 😊!! Absolutely awesome and amazing!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏! Thank you very much 👍!! My new playlist for a while now!! 🍺 🍻!!😊
the thing that stands out for me is that not everyone has a big gut like they do today..people were in much better shape and health back then...
It was the extra cigarettes and beer…
the world had boy george and the culture club, toronto had george by at the caribou club
First year in Toronto 73,went to the caribou club almost every Saturday night. 😂 great memories.
Beleive it or not he was suposed to be my god father but he got drunk so he couldn't show up
You cannot dance to accordion music.. period.. you can enjoy it but dance no. And if you're not true Irish please stop with accents.. you sound awful.
You're being disrespectful to Newfoundland here. No one is trying to be irish. Lol
Great music
Nova Scotia
Newfoundland* Stop it
Freddie played anything that had strings.
Was three years old when this was happening and love all the songs
I love Dianne Leigh music her and her daughter Terry Joe sounds great. Dose anybody know if Terry Joe had a career in music?
J Terry Hynes is the MC ...he sang the Jerry Lee Lewis song ...Fine singer, entertainer and story teller !!
Hard to believe 1973 was 50 years ago. This was prime time for me ! Fred McKenna was a Canadian gem as was Harry Hibbs. God rest their souls.
Exactly. I was 23 in 1973, the world was before me.
amazing beautiful
I bet you there's folks in Ireland who have Harry Hibbs in their record collections. This same people who like Tommy Makem and the Clancy Brothers and the Dubliners would love Harry Hibbs .
I was just in Bell Island and went to the Music Hall of Memories. I felt so bad when the owner asked if I have heard of Harry Hibbs and said no. He is 10000% a Canadian icon and deserves so much more respect and notoriety! He definitely belongs on the Canadian Walk of Fame!
Hola! Tienes idea de que falleció?
May I know who Marty Hibbs is?
I remember Twiggle Toes. I also played it and still do. I used to play it and the second part seemed to grate on one mans ears he would ask me to stop playing the accordion but his wife played the same thing.
As A Kid my mom bought me a few of Harry Hibbs Albums LPs in the day and I learned how to sound just like he did on my button Accordion Diatonic hohner he was an amazing musician too bad we lost him so early in his life.
I’m almost a Newfoundlander, I’m from Cape Breton! This is pure GOLD and I LOVE it!!!!
A Nova Scotian is a wanna be Cape Bretoner.
@@patbrennan6572 right on b’ye!!
Watching this great music again. Just wondering -with the youngest people in the band and audience in their 20's then, how many are alive today? Could someone who was at the show that night, please reply if you read my question.
7th
I used to work with Harry when we both worked for sears canada Harry was a good guy and I for one was very saddened bby his death we lost a good muscian when we lost him
Wow!! Awesome thank you for the insight and inspiration s of Mr .Hibbs..😊 J Terry Hynes from Port au Port Newfoundland sang this a well,he said he sold it to Harry in St.Johns! I don't know if it's true!! But that's what he claims! 😊 I don't believe it!!! Ron Hynes was another bullshitter! He is and was a moronic human on cocaine all day,24/7.. I got my first shot at cocaine from Ron Hynes!! I knew them all! I have pictures of me and these guys! Dick Nolan was my Father's good Buddy from the Crossing on train playing at the Admiral lounge in Stephenville crossing,it was a entertaining place before the roads were built! I was 2 days outta me mudders arse and had to home on train! 4 hour drive!!😊
fantastic!!
Fred's Rockpile eat your heart out!
these Canadians know their shyyte!
They're Newfoundlanders. Don't try and take that away from them
My dad was the president of the NFLD Club back in the mid 70's. I was around 5 or 6 and would be with him at the club all the time. I remember Harry coming to the club to do his show and he would let me play with his accordian when they would be rehearsing. Great memories.

You didn’t have to be a “Newf” to enjoy his music. It was a joyful part of my childhood, and my parents and I tuned in each week. Good times.
They guy in the white shirt is loving it!!
That is a treat to see both Harry Hibbs and Fred McKenna performing together.
Love the music
Reminds me of some some pretty good house bands in the Clubs of Newfoundland in 70's to early 90's- Most have gone to a better place. God love em all.
First time i seen this youtube posting. Lots of memories ,not of the Caribou club but of Harry's music. A NEWFOUNDLAND icon along with John White, Dick Nolan, A Frank Willis,Joan Morrisey and lots of talent in today's ERA - Peter Jacobs, etc.. Fred Mckenna too was superb. Had to be a great spot for Newfoundlanders and others back then. Greetings from the east coast of Nfld. to all. Keep Newfoundland music alive-I dont think there is another province in Canada with so much traditional music talent.
Do not forget Stopin Tom.
@@davidhynes I got some CD's and LP's with Stompin' TOM. Saw him in the mid 70's at GANDER Arts and Culture center in my own province of Nfld. Awesome entertainer and person.
@@davidhyneshe's not newf
play good
Must of been a awesome time to live, good old day!
The guy playing the fiddle is a pleasure to listen to! Job to beat harry!
Jeff Glover I believe it is a Hohner BC tuning diatonic Accordion.
Who's the blind gentleman? He has a unique way of playing his instruments for sure.
Fred McKenna
Love this music
Such talent. Wow!
We live in British Columbia now since '69 from Nova Scotia but loved all Atlantic Music especially music from Newfoundland/Labrador. Love Diane's singing.
ONG, it is so good to hear this music..Love Harry Hibbs and the Team., also Roy Payne and Eddie Coffey.
Who is the lead guy with mustache ?
The very pretty female singer puts me in mind of Anne Hathaway.
Freddy McKenna and some of his friends were with my family one time, and they went to Dark Harbour to see the sunset. Someone in the group asked what direction that was. Freddy said, where he grew up, the sun set in the west. Quite a put down to be told what direction you are looking in by a blind man.
Hi, What model accordion did Harry Hibbs play and what key was it in?
2021 love your talent
