I worked at this game selling juice. I watched the second half of the game which was free. I am Nowa season ticket holder. Go Cats go!!!!
2:11:15 for the important moment of the game.
Such a great game, still heartbroken after all these years the Ti-Cats couldn’t pull it out
This is so good to see, look at the interest in training camp!! Glory days in the CFL as it faced challenges from the newly launched AFL as well as the established, yet far from dominant, NFL.
what a great tim,e to be an argos fan
The situation with the Tiger-Cats having only six men on the line of scrimmage in the Eastern Finals came about because they decided to bring back the tackle eligible play, which the Argonauts had used briefly in 1959. Dave Viti, a rookie in 1962, could play both end and tackle. When he lined up at tackle, the player outside of him would be an eligible receiver; on a subsequent play, that outside player would drop back, making Viti an eligible receiver. As a result of the controversy, the Blue Bombers decided to use the play in the Grey Cup, which was why Frank Rigney wore Farrell Funston's #71 and Funston wore #10. Rule changes after that season outlawed the tackle eligible play.
Dan Gallagher sure loved cheeseburgers. RIP Big Guy

Oh wow man where'd y get this awesome year end highlight vid?

Great opening footage of Willie Fleming.
This was a great game. I remember Ken miller being a much respected and loved head coach.
It was unfortunate that the Riders had too many players on the field at the end.
25 wins in a row, until the Grey Cup loss. Still a record.
Great to have this. Wish someone had the entire 1971 Grey Cup game.

Fantastic!

How as that not roughing the kicker on the last play?
I don’t think it can be called on an open field kick
Damn Johnny Hockey :(

@@chrisuncleahmad789 the only cfl game to make me shed tears of joy…I didn’t sleep at all that night after watching him hit Romby down the rail from me seat in Section I
I remember listening to the Vancouver radio broadcast of this game, with Eric Bishop calling the play-by-play. B.C. in white. Other than All-Star Games, this is the first time prior to 1980 that I've seen players (the Lion veterans) with names on their jerseys during pre-season. The 1970 Lions were the first CFL team to wear names on their jerseys during the regular season, and the rest of the league followed suit in 1971. The referee gives the wrong signal after Gerry Organ's convert. Raising one arm instead of both had been the signal for one point for some years by this time. This is a rare opportunity to see Tom Wilkinson at quarterback with the Lions and the rookie Gerry Organ as a receiver, making a big catch to set up Skip Eaman's touchdown. Final score: Ottawa 41 B.C. 14 Ottawa Rough Riders 3 John Kruspe 9 Barry Ardern 10 Gary Wood 14 Barclay Allen 15 Bill Van Burkleo 16 Rick Cassata 17 Wayne Tosh 20 Carl Bartles 21 Wayne Giardino 23 Billy Cooper 24 Greg Thompson 25 Skip Eaman 26 Rod Woodward 27 Hugh Oldham 30 Dan Dever 31 Al Marcelin 33 Rhome Nixon 35 Dennis Duncan 36 Nelson Munsey 39 Milt Balkum 41 Ken Lehmann 42 Bob McKeown 43 Doug Specht 44 George Little 50 Bob Padfield 51 Roger Perdrix 53 Marshall Shirk 54 Jerry Campbell 55 Dave Braggins 56 Tom Schuette 58 Richard Lolotai 62 Moe Racine 63 Gus Revenberg 64 Tom Laputka 65 Rudy Sims 71 Gerry Organ 73 Tom Schultz 74 Ken Little 75 Wayne Smith 77 Dave Pivec British Columbia Lions 10 Paul Brothers 11 Brian Donnelly 12 Wayne Holm 14 Tom Wilkinson 15 Wayne Matherne 16 Gerry Herron 17 D. @@orbyfan I didn’t realize they could have two players with the same number at that time.
@@CalgaryStampedersClassics This was just in pre-season; you should see the program from the Lions' first pre-season game against the Eskimos a week earlier, when both teams used duplicate numbers.
@ I was hoping to find Carl Weathers in this game but he didn’t join the team I believe until later in the season.
@@CalgaryStampedersClassics Correct; I think he joined them i time for their eastern swing in October.
This was my first CFL game. Great game, remember it like yesterday.
@@jaytaylor629 that’s awesome I was there too
The missing 1st quarter included a 61-yard TD pass from Gary Wood to Hugh Oldham and a single for Dennis Duncan when he fumbled into the Ottawa end zone. Duncan finished with 112 yards on 16 carries, while Oldham caught 4 for 107 and 2 TDs. Steve Booras suffered a knee injury that put him out for the rest of the season, and the only regular season game he dressed for after that was against the Rough Riders in the last game of the 1976 season.
Attendance at Autostade was 26,677. Elsewhere that day, Jack Abendschan kicked a 17-yard field goal to give the Saskatchewan Roughriders a 5-2 win over the Blue Bombers in Winnipeg, and the Stampeders beat the Argonauts 27-12 in Calgary; Leo Cahill thought he might get fired after that game.
