This was improvised on the first take, in terms of vocal melody and guitar. I wrote the lyrics in a few minutes, and hit record, as I have been doing with all of these songs.

This is a song that I improvised completely in around 15 minutes, or at least less than half an hour, which is to say the lyrics are spontaneous and so is everything else. This is a recording of TELECOPY from Brooklyn in the summer of 2009. The band was around under that name for less than a year. Singer is Brent Bechtel, other musicians, James and Joel, guitar and drums.

It's been about two months of playing trumpet now, so I thought I would make another spontaneous composition featuring acoustic guitar and improvised trumpet. The trumpet I'm playing on this is a 1926 Conn Concert Grand 28B trumpet (not the one pictured.) I call it "Composition #2"

On this track, I made up and improvised acoustic guitar part, then I quickly recorded my Conn Victor 80A cornet over the top of the guitar, and added a little reverb.
