Deck and fire pit transformation
We recently transformed this dilapidated old deck and concrete pad into a beautiful user friendly outdoor entertaining area.
The old deck was white ant ridden and falling apart you could barely walk on it without the risk of falling through it. So we ripped it out and disposed of it and re built the new deck using @timberdeckingperth timber composite decking.

Does gutter guard work?
มุมมอง 3613 ปีที่แล้ว
A genuine review on the gutter guard product. Is it really worth it? I don’t believe it is. But if you think differently feel free to leave a comment. It has been my experience when cleaning gutters that no matter what type of gutter guard product is in there they seem to just collect debris which consequently holds the moisture underneath them causing the gutters to rust out over time.

      Hey Mate thanks for the comment. You definitely need to wrap the cell completely otherwise it will fill up with sand and become useless in no time at all. The geo felt let’s water out through it whilst stopping the sand coming in

      Yep that’s a fair call and sometimes I do just depends on the space I have to work with but it’s not 100% necessary as the sand drains just as well here in WA without the blue metal/ gravel

    Great video mate, i use the same type of soakwells but ive noticed that the geo mesh they provide gets clogged up over time and slows down the water getting through it, i see you wrap the whole box in the mesh even the bottom, you have never had issues? I usually leave the bottom open now which sits in the stones but i would rather wrap the whole box like you do but afraid of the above happening down the track.

    • @thatsmaintenance2054
      @thatsmaintenance2054 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gday mate thanks for the feedback I appreciate it 👍🏻 I have never had any issues with the geo felt clogging up the only thing I can suggest that maybe the capacity of soakwell is not adequate for the volume of water coming off the roof space in a heavy downpour if you are finding that the water is backing up. I have always fully wrapped and sealed the storm water pipe inlet to avoid sand getting in there and clogging it up aswell. I hope that helps? If not please let me know

    Novaplas, WA made. I used a 90mm diamond holesaw to cut opening, but any will do, I just had it after drilling an overflow hole from existing concrete soak to 4 x Novaplas soaks joined together to supplement it . Overflow drilled 90mm lower than inlet. It was one mofo of a hole to be dug deep enough though with just shovel. About 4000 paver bricks lifted for poured limestone upgrade so I did not have to give a shit about being overly tidy lol.

  • @romaindappe4139

    Awesome video. I'm in Perth and the original soakwell under the liquid limestone patio is blocked by tree roots so the patio gets flooded when it rains or when the evaporative aircon dumps the water tank. luckily the downpipe is at the border between liquid limestone and pavers so i'll be able to put a plastic soakwell under the pavers and connect a pipe to the existing grill. Thanks for video!

  • @godfreymaynor2402
    @godfreymaynor2402 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    seems very easy, however the vent that I bought didn't come with any screws to hold the 2 sides together, so what do I do in that case? Do i use liquid nails or something?

    • @martysaussieadventuresyork2778
      @martysaussieadventuresyork2778 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Godfrey thanks for the comment mate. It is very easy and they should lock into each other and hold each other in position but if you are worried about it you could definitely use liquid nails or the like or you could pick up some generic screws to suit aswell and pre drill your own holes if not already there. I hope this helps

  • @beeone5983

    Hey mate, Could you describe how the in-ground PVC pipe 'connects' to the soak well? I initially thought they came with holes or something like that.

    • @martysaussieadventuresyork2778
      @martysaussieadventuresyork2778 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey mate thanks for the comment mate. Yep unfortunately they don’t come with pre cut holes so you have to cut your own. I usually use my Recip saw or jigsaw to this and then slide the pipe into the cell then tape up the Geo felt to the pipe work to stop sand getting in. Hope that helps?

    Hi , so the pipe and soak well you installed are to divert the water coming from the downpipe and house roof? Isnt it required to have a underground stormwater pipe to connect the downpipe and street outlet? Given so much stormwater from the roof, I wonder if the soak well is big enough. We have One downpipe connecting to very long underground drain pipe, but the height and ditch are all wrong, it would be very expensive to change that. Now after this video, we are just thinking if we could simply use soakwell system so we could abandon that particular long undergound drain pipe (for that downpipe.) . Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks so much.

    • @martysaussieadventuresyork2778
      @martysaussieadventuresyork2778 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gday mate where are you located? You could definitely abandon the pipe work that is existing and install a new soak-well/s and pipe work for that down pipe you will just need to make sure that the soak-well/s are large enough to handle the volume of water by calculating the surface area of that section of roof space. Hope that helps? If you have any further questions please don’t hesitate to ask or you can DM me on my Facebook page @thats maintenance

      Something I've noticed in Perth vs say Melbourne - Vic suburban design philosophy is safely divert rainwater to kerb / street outlet like you said. Within WA, at least in Perth the council philosophy is make the home owner deal with it, council will look after rain falling on their side of the fence. Probably aided by Perth being very sandy.
