Video extras, Les Claypool impressions, footage of Frankie's vault: a dumping ground for the Primus Tracks podcast.
c2b3 - Junior
The first of many tracks on the c2b3 that airs grievances and frustrations with the George W Bush administration, Junior directly derides W through a variety of vocalizations, supported by a greasy soundtrack. Speaking of greasy, Sam Stewart of Flagman drops in to dissect the tune and reveal what he's learned from studying Les and c2b3 on a musical level.

c2b3 - Hip Shot From The Slab
มุมมอง 14321 วันที่ผ่านมา
Possibly the most challenging track of the album for its messiness and seeming lack of structure, there are redeeming qualities - Bucket's strange guitar sounds, a guest turn from Gabby La La, and the mystery of the single lyric - Hip Shot From the Slab captures c2b3 at its most abstract. Frankie doggedly mines English idioms to make sense of the title, for which we spend an inordinate amount o...
c2b3 - Elephant Ghost
มุมมอง 4728 วันที่ผ่านมา
The epic instrumental positioned at track 4 is mix of wistful pathos and chill dub, eliciting a wide range of interpretations and emotional responses. At Primus Tracks, we tend towards the visual spark, and this track takes us on some strange trips. We get into the heart of the matter, and discuss some megafauna along the way. c2b3 - Tyranny of the Hunt
มุมมอง 67หลายเดือนก่อน
The tyranny of the hunt will take you by surprise, and so will the origins of this track! We have deep background on the lyrics of this track thanks to some interviews around the time of record release, as well as our recent episode with Les, Brain, and Soya. Who knew the gangrenous penis would become the stuff of legend? (Me. I knew.) The music is well-structured, with some inspired breaks amo...
Primus - Coattails Of A Dead Man 9/21/2010
มุมมอง 161หลายเดือนก่อน
A lousy clip of lousy footage from a lousy camera. One of four known performances of the track by Primus.
Primus - Antipop cassette sampler
มุมมอง 313หลายเดือนก่อน
A promo cassette shipped to fans on the band's mailing list to promote 1999's Antipop record. Contains blended portions of the (likely unrefined) tracks Antipop, Power Mad, Electric Uncle Sam, Eclectic Electric.
c2b3 - Thai Noodles w/ Rory Dolan
มุมมอง 69หลายเดือนก่อน
The great Rory Dolan of Lespecial rejoins Primus Tracks to deconstruct Brain's unusual drum performance on the second track of the c2b3 record, which, actually, already sounds like it was deconstructed? After rocking our faces off, this looser number reveals the more casual and spontaneous side of the band and project. Frankie reveals the thematic origins of the seemingly-nonsensical lyrics, wh...
c2b3 - Buckethead w/ Kello Gonzalez
มุมมอง 217หลายเดือนก่อน
The great Kello Gonzalez rejoins Primus Tracks amid his jam-packed schedule to discuss the fiery opening track to the lone Bucket of Bernie Brains release, Buckethead. The second biographical track about the mysterious masked figure with lyrics by Claypool, this one hoists him as a paragon of honor and excellence, with a towering track to match, but only after a whimsical keyboard intro courtes...
Making of c2b3 with Brain and Les Claypool
มุมมอง 5992 หลายเดือนก่อน
As we turn our attention to Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains, Tim Soya made sure we opened proceedings in style with two of the band members, Brian "Brain" Mantia and Les Claypool. We ask them about the origins and magic of C2B3 - which seems to be just that, given their commentary, but they certainly hold dear the experience of playing without a net and relying on one another to carr...
Primus DNA - XTC
มุมมอง 1482 หลายเดือนก่อน
We continue our DNA sub-series with a less obvious influence on Les Claypool and Primus: XTC. This English band influenced Les in his formative years, perhaps subconsciously influencing his own style, culminating in two Primus covers of XTC tracks from their album, Drums and Wires in Making Plans for Nigel and Scissorman. Here to provide a crash course in XTC And to describe what he hears of th...
Hot Rod Lincoln, Locomotive Breath, Number Two
มุมมอง 722 หลายเดือนก่อน
Les Claypool was busy enough in 2002 with the release and support of Purple Onion, but he also found time to complete a cover of Hot Rod Lincoln for a compilation album, land Frog Brigade Bonnaroo performances on two official releases, and start his journey with Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains. We dig into the covers and the improv nature of c2b3. Get involved: Instagram (instagram.c...
2024 Summer Tour Wrap

As the 2024 Primus summer tour concludes, we take a look at the number of set list surprises and other goodies that packed the 33-date sojourn with much mirth, merriment, and mind-melting, mesmerizing musicianship. This tour was unique for being conducted without some kind of theme or conceit behind, nor any kind of official release to back. Primus was just out on the road, headlining some fetc...
Master Class with David Lefkowitz - Prawn Song Records

David Lefkowitz returns for another Master Class. Dave managed Primus/Les for about twenty years, and additionally was the president of Prawn Song Records when the label pivoted to releasing albums by talented Bay Area bands. We discuss the challenges and intricacies of running a record label (Dave's advice: don't.) and why it's not the greatest idea. Great talk with a true heavy! Get involved:...
LSD - Minneapolis 2004
มุมมอง 913 หลายเดือนก่อน
Our latest Legendary Show Dissection takes us back to 2004 as Primus marauded across North America to bring Frizzle Fry in its entirety to the masses in a two-set evening-with format. On this particular evening, the band graced the crowd with what we believe is a record of six consecutive songs on the six-string fretless "rainbow" bass. Considering that the rainbow is retired due to age and sen...

44:13 "Dance To The Music" I see what you did there, Bernie.
Awesome. Too bad we couldn't get a cameo from Tom on Mellotron and vocals. 🤞
Great conversation. In all my 62 yrs I have seen my fare share of live performances and missed twice as many others. I got into Claypool early 2000's and have seen him almost a dozen times in several incarnations. I caught the C2B3 performance in Sacramento Ca. 11/03/04 at the Crest Theater, an awesome venue. It was the best concert I've ever attended (there were a few GratefulDead show in the early 80" that were mind bending)Regardless of the heavy dose of 2CI I had consumed which grabbed me by my shortie hairs n dragged damn near everywhere, I survived this funky groove heavy onslaught and the walk to a hotel room in the rain created extra ripples in my brain matter where I keep the memories of that night. And having a crisp clear recording of the show to refresh the memories is priceless... With Les there is always more. He's found a way with that bass he plays, makes me swim in pools of clay... Coolness
the best song of purple onion indeed! i want to say that in the reprise of the last track, Les doesn't do root notes, in fact, he does a strumming with full octaves which goes like (in bass tabs and refering to A - D - G strings) 3 - 5 - 5 / 5 - 7 -7 / and ends it with a powerful strumming in 8 - 10 - 10 that is why you listen more powerful than the rest of the song, plus the envelope filter with that distorsion in it. great podcast! i really enjoyed. i really study this song back in the 2021 bc i was really obssesed with it. in my personal opinion, the Boonaro version of 2009 is the best in TH-cam because he samples in the reprise with Wynonas Big Brown Beaver!!!! Salutes from Argentina, buenos aires !
Was just listening to the o.g. album today. This mix sounds different. Shortened songs aside, everything sounds so different!
Loving this C2B3 stuff! Do you have any insight into the 2002-09-13 show at Slim’s that I believe was professionally filmed for (I assume) a DVD release?
still looking for the old c2b3live shows from the website, I used to have a few of them I bought from the website but that was many computers ago 🥲
Wow! Incredibly talented musicians just jamming and improvising together on stage…how cool is that??
"These damned blue collared tweakers, They're runnin' this here town."
Big Eyeball in the Sky is my favorite album
The Bill Kirchen version of Hot Rod Lincoln is fantastic
As a blue collared (not tweeker) i absolutely love cuyahogas poster

As a black person, the "monkey boy" caught me way off guard.
"hi" in 2023
takes me back to a time when I was wishin' so hard to get the new 3Dfx card. Then I could really play some Quake.
aaahhh the internet
Mislabeled as Too Many Puppies on the broadcast. Hahaha
audio is way better than I'd expect!
Internet quality in 1996 was a lot better than people expected, especially with the rise of cable companies offering "high-speed" internet that was several magnitudes faster than Dial-Up, as well as DSL connections becoming significantly cheaper for the public.
"it's gonna come to the internet, gonna be all crap, and you're gonna love it! That's what the internet is, just, crap." fast forward 27 years
