French! I keep wanting to learn more French-more-so with every year that goes by, starting when I was kicked out of my grade 8 French exam for shooting a spit ball 😜 One thing I’ve yet to try is taking a kids article / book like that and just try to translate it. Then, check my work, then do another, then get someone who really knows French to check my work. It’s based off the technique CS Lewis describes being taught Greek as a youth. His teacher actually made him work the translation with him live, pushing him to go as fast as he could. He said that, despite the frustration at first, it taught his brain to not just translate the words, but to think like a Greek. Like he went too fast for his left brain to dumb everything down technically, but allowing his right to engage his imagination… He said something about the Greek word for a boat…. I loved the way he described this process.
