Family of 8 goes off the grid in the Pacific Northwest. Follow us on our journey as we build our new home and reclaim our lives as a family. Our property is at nearly 4500 feet elevation and we're more than 6 miles away from the nearest utility. We don't claim to know everything as we are learning along the way. Our goal is to be as self-sufficient as possible like the pioneers were. We believe that God has a special plan for our family and perhaps show others the way as well. Come join us as we learn together!

May 8 2024 leadville,co we got 20 inches overnight it was like moving cement.
I use a snow blower.
Which country....
How long is this road?
Hey, time for the sleds, boys!
Very similar to what we have up here in B.C. I plowed snow as a kid on an MF 135 with a blade on the loader attachment. Love looking at the Cascade mountains!
Location and elevation, the sky at night must be incredible.
Easy for you to say because black people didn’t have their own farms back then and the few that did was stripped of them to benefit your people
What a great lifel❤❤❤ 1:19
LUCKY...❤❤❤❤❤YOU
Had to laugh at your comment about “still learning” at about 20 minutes. I’ve been a truck driver for 38 years, still learning. Trouble is, when I almost have all the answers, somebody starts changing the questions….
You need a battery op blower to dust that thing off.
Like your snow plowing videos, commentary is good. Also, would like to see the completion of your house videos past the siding stages. Thanks a bunch.
Enjoyable video :)
82 to 32 in nc
This place is away from people! Love it!
Really sucks .
who pays for this`, milage, fuel, salary?
I wish I could say that it was supported by someone else but it's all self-supported.
Yes, it's clear that it takes time when he's plowing with a shovel instead of a snow blade, but he'll probably learn when he gets older to use the right tool for the job!
Sometimes the best tool is the one you have rather than the one you don't. My offer still stands. Anyone is welcome to come up and bring there machine to help us out. I appreciate you watching.
How wide is your blade?
It's 12' wide
You have gotten far more snow then we have in the Twin Cities, Minnesota.
Is that your main gate? I've noticed you don't open it all the way when you plow. and your monroe plow at one time would have had skid shoes on it , I know you said you don't have them on there cause they rip up the ground and hit the rocks ,you would think that with them on it would be better than the whole blade hitting the rocks in the road, to bad you cant modify a bucket with a blade on it ,you could then tilt the bucket back a little so it would ketch on everything ,,just a thought.
In the open areas, I would be really tempted to push the snow to the lee side of the road. To reduce the size of the drifts on the road itself.
How many miles of road do you talk care of?
about 6 miles down and then back
I love riding with you.
Tractor? That's a wheel loader.
You need a grader with a wing
I've thought about it.. Might get a wing for the snowplow blade
Why plow to the high side of the hill……why not push the snow over the side to the low area?
Thanks for sharing this! I was about ready to pull my hair out. This worked for me!
Which state are you in?
WA
That sure is a lot of Snow!
Where are you located? Here in Ohno, even in b the snow belt, we no longer get plowsble snow. By the time you walk out to your plow truck, the snow has melted.
VERY IMPRESSIVE, THANKS FOR SHARING! I TOO HAD AN OFF GRID HOME
These trees are fab. They define this state. There is no place like Cali in the entire Uni, and that's a fact.
Do you plow the road for your township or county where you live? I had operated pay loaders most of my adult life and your pay loader would have a float control built into the machine ,but without skid shoes on the blade it would just dig in ,kind of like its do now, Maybe if you're in mind to think outside the box, Arctic Sectional snow pusher blades are made for the harshest environments, they have sections that move when you hit a curb or a rock, and then spring back and keep going,I watch DIRT MONKEY FORCE on the youtube and he and ARCTIC have an understanding and him and their company test these pusher blades beyond their limits It might be something to look at in the future ,Makes plowing a bit smoother and fun,Take care
Thank you for your kind note. I plow 6 miles of mountain road without being compensated from anyone. I do this for live/safety reasons as well as to keep it open for the other property owners up here. I will definitely take a look at the Arctic plows. It's just that I'm doing this on a shoestring budget. I'm sure you can understand.
Won't a snow blower work better there
I enjoyed watching your video. Had know I idea how much snow had fallen. I live in Wisconsin
When you plow like that is your blade in float
So I have a question back to you. This monroe snow plow blade is always in float mode. There doesn't seem to be a way to fix it in place. Unless I drill the spring release blades to bolt them when I need to carve. Anyone have any experience with Monroe blades?
@@almosthomeranch8447 in farm tractors the hydraulics have a float position where the weight of the implement is the only thing holding it down not hydraulic pressure, it's also the way snow plows work on a pickup truck.
So thanks for the reply. I realize about the hydraulic float controls but this is a little different. Monroe and other snow plow blades are hinged at the bottom and have springs for compression that fold the blade forward when it hits an obstacle (to save the blade). The problem is it's not very good for carving as it floats over the snow. However, you bring a good point about hydraulic down force. I'm going to have to read the JD manual a bit to study that.
@@almosthomeranch8447 You said on your video that you were surprised that people wanting to share your tractor seat, if it weren't for guys like yourself huge sections of the country would be inaccessible after it snows keep up the good work
i been watching you for a few months now i was wondering where you are from in ND becuase i am also from and still live here and born here too
Do you get paid to do that or is it just a community service, I know when I lived in a remote part of Alaska back in the 90's and they had a big snow several miners using their own fuel and equipment would help clear the roads for the local people,
I do not get paid for doing this. It's just a community service (as you say) to keep it accessible for all. Sometimes the 4 wheelers don't like it but they don't have to live up here with a family. :)
Everything is working fine.
👍👍
You are doing it fine as far as I can tell. I enjoy watching. Plowing and snow blowing is fun to me. As long as nothing breaks. I live on 1/4 mile private road. Not much snow this year in lower Michigan
thanks used to plow snow with a Gallion road grader
I found this so relaxing and peaceful. A world away from living in the big city but a reminder of some times spent in the Sierras in my youth. I felt like I was there on your mountain, or God's mountain really...it felt that way. I can still imagine breathing in some mountain winter air. Amazing sense memory that is just a breath away. Thank you!
How long is this road?
JAN 10 2024...Thanks for Video! Kids lobe this
Wouldn't it be easier to blow the snow on the driveways?
24” in 24hrs is the record in a day where im located. Mtns of NC. Worst storm was Blizzard of 93’ we got between 36” & 48” in three days. Military had to do food drops for remote hillbillys/billyettes, and livestock. One very remote older billyette shot at one of helicopters that was attempting to drop her food. True story!
How many miles did you go down. Its like a tonka truck lol
