The Grand Canyon… a disappointment??? It’s probably one of the more awe inspiring landmarks of natural beauty in the world. If you truly want to experience the canyon, go on hikes, don’t do tacky donkey rides, go out and truly explore.

The air temp at the rim of the Grand Canyon is never "hot". It's elevation precludes that. Really lousy video.

I do agree with your take on the places that you've mentioned (I've been to all of them) but there are two things to keep in mind if you do go - Do not expect much and you will not be disappointed and ALWAYS focus on the overall experience rather than just the 1 thing that brought you there. Downtown Hollywood CA is a serious dump but the characters that roam the streets (during the day looking for tips & at night going to a bar) are absolutely spectacular.

Having been to all the places on the list, I was amazed that Mt Rushmore was not here. It's a tourist trap in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do once you have looked at the monument for five minutes.

On the other side of the coin, the Gateway Arch in St. Louis is pretty nice. Parking isn't bad except during major events. If you want to go to the top of the arch, it's not free, and reservations can fill up quickly, but you can plan to get there at a good time, and then you can visit the impressive free museum underneath. Or don't go up if you are on a budget. Just admire it from the ground and go to the museum and/or gift shop. It's a good one with mostly high quality stuff, not garbage. It sits on a nice grassy park. Bring a Frisbee or kite, or even a picnic! And there are tons of good restaurants in the city. Just stay out of north city and you'll be perfectly fine.

Although I haven't been there, I'd imagine that Mt. Rushmore would be somewhat of a disappointment. It's not near anything else to speak of; you really gotta go out of your way to get there. And once you're there, you're really not all that close to the monument. And it probably has the same crappy gift shops that exist everywhere else. I think it's a relatively important monument that I'd like to see someday, but I just don't think I'll ever be in that neck of the woods, and would not make a special trip just for that.
