"Mini Murals" Art Workshop Library Visit
มุมมอง 542 หลายเดือนก่อน
I recently wrapped up a 14-library branch workshop series across San Mateo County, where I had the privilege of hosting my "Mini Murals" art workshop. Through these sessions, kids, teens, and adults not only learned about the rich history of lowriding but also embraced the culture through hands-on art creation. With each stop, I brought the full lowrider experience to life: presentations inside...

To A Dead Lowrider, poem by J.L. Navarro voiced by Daniel Villalva
มุมมอง 784 หลายเดือนก่อน
In honor of Chicano Heritage Month! "To A Dead Lowrider," is perhaps one of the earliest published works identifying "The Lowrider" as a person, an identity. The elegy, "To A Dead Lowrider," is different from other writings in that most other writings of the time describe lowriding from afar, as just a car phenomenon. Published in Con Safos Magazine Volume 1, Number 3 in 1969. I'm not sure when...

Corniest “culture” in America hands down
Alright
Does anyone remember who actually came up with that logo originally before it was refined? I do..
Great video, good stories on all the startup of magazine's from back in the day. I got to witness Sonny and his buddies putting the magazines together in '78'. Creating the pages, cut & pasting photos and stapling the pages together by hand. An amazing time for me having my artwork in the early issues of lowrider magazine.
Without Sonny Madrid 🙏🏽 it wouldn’t be no Lowrider mag or teen Angel but la loves takin all the credit instead of giving
I met Sonny Madrid in 1969. We collaborated on outing Vendidos in Sanjo, like vatos who qualified for $$ for Skills Centers which never got built, but they had nice rides and threads. He did the text and I did the cartoons on flyers. My hermano was his compa. I called him and suggested he tell Sonny I wanted a job. After a couple days no dice yet, so I moved to Sanjo and walked into the LRM office and took the job, silently daring anyone to tell me no. I wasn't going to pass up a job on the only glossy and colorful revista that Chicanos had at the time. worked on Lowrider Magazine issue #1 (Jan Feb 1977 ) and joined the Sanjo production staff in October of 1979, at 10th and William. By then the mag had 32,000 subscriptions many for vatos in the military overseas. We are talking Raza, Blacks, Whites and Pinoy ( Pilipinos). Sonny screwed up and hired a racist gava. I had to explain a thing or two to this necio, several times. Teen A., not Raza, showed up with artwork often that eventually pissed off Chicanos. The fool put vatos in military uniforms. Worse than that this disgusting character presumed I'd admire his stories of sex with child Korean girls when he was in the US Marines. What a crude baboso. I still have pristine Lowrider mags from the late seventies. Sonny's son Mario Madrid is on TH-cam and I'm putting him on my channel.

Cool but the pink is more of like a flamingo pink or pink lemonade

Hey brotha, that's cool that you created the logo but that was years ago and you need to let it go. Time goes on and people forget but one thing that doesn't change is where we go when we die. Focus your time on Jesus Christ that loves you and He will give you a bigger pupose than the guy who created a logo. Repent and give your life to Jesus. Much love brother. ❤
Such an epic moment in Low Riding !!! A. Douglas the true God Father !! #fatherinlaw2
Great find! 👊🏾💯👊🏾
That looks more like the 70’s than the 80’s
This was filmed in 78-79 and released in 1980 ✊🏽
Love this part of our low riding history !
I love it , 😍❤❤, very cool stuff , wonderful people macking it , the street scenes are lovely , thank you very much for sharing. Loving greetings
Good ol Andy. The very first. Oh. BTW. He was a white guy.

Hey love the channel. Do you have a podcast or is this mostly a TH-cam thing. Thanks
Just TH-cam uploads for now
@@lowriderfever hey if you want to interview the Lowrider Nationals owners get a comment from Gilbert to see if it is something to look into.
He is using a sand paper first .That thing he spray on the wheel is no good. I use straight up sope no grinder needed. Do it the right way dont kill your tires guys... 😎🐲
It's a srubbing pad, a little stronger than an SOS pad. The whitewall spray... I don't think does anything actually. Simplegreen and a scouring pad worked good. These white walls a no good anymore, they turn yellow too fast.
I remember 1982 in San Francisco, 24th & Mission st. ..... It was like the movie BLVD Nights....Good times, heavy police presents in riot gear.... those times will 4ever hold a special place in my heart.
I can't recall seeing a 61 thru 64 Impala in the vid. No wait, a 64' with frenched in rectangle headlights in a shop window at 7:13. We all love these icons. They are what surely comes to mind when a lowrider is mentioned in 2024. In this vid, 1971 LTD hardtop first scene! Lucky homeboy washing his 75 Pontiac Lemans! A wise man said, "Hey, if we are going to wear uniforms, let's everybody wear something different." Let's embrace the rarer, odder, lowriders. Bring back the Euro styles of the 90's, too! Don't make me do it myself!! lol
What do you use too build it and screw if ?
All you need is a small Philips screwdriver.
What year did Low riding start
Well I want to say it’s interesting how the low rider culture has started and how it has kept a lot of community United Also that the lady passing that she the one in the front cover is not her I know the actual person that’s on the front cover her name is Teresa Rodriguez and lives here in California Ventura County
Represent! ❤❤❤
Suave hermanito 😎💯
BIG BAD SAN’JO Y-QUE!
That's olschool but so is that bondo..thats the worst brand you can use. Goodshit is always more but it does matter in many ways..
Peeling the rubber off
slowly.. yes
Haha I remember doing this back in 7th-8th grade this was popular. Everyone was doing back on 1999-2000
Yep!!!!
How much.
clarifications.. Sonny was staff for the publications El Macriado, El Machete, Bronce and La Palabra. He published Trucha and then came San Jose Community News. The timeline was from 68-73. El Eccentrico was created by Humberto Garcia. El Machete was an independant publication. MASC -Mexican American Student Confederation was from Bay Area colleges. At SJSU MECHA Sonny was coordinating student support of UFW actions in the community. The first issue of Low Rider Magazine does not have the titles, date, etc. on top like most magazines, it is on the bottom. Sonny said it preserved the integrity of the photo cover. The original logo comes from the text 1.00 modified with hat and darkened 0s and mustache by Sonny and Antonio Perales on the second issue. It was refined to the well known logo in 78’ by artist Joe Hernandez. Eventually it would lose the 1 next to the logo. follow IG at @sonnymadridofficial

Inspiring story of Julio Ruelas, founder of Dukes Car Club, sharing his journey and vision for creating a community around cars and helping others through charitable events. Motivational and inspiring interview, definitely worth watching!
Love this nostalgic historical footage! This reporter had me rollin' when he explained the terms "Bad Ride" and "Happenings"!! 😆😆 I love my lowlow but also my hot rod Camaro... 😎😎
He's afraid to say the word Chicano. When you stand up to the Man you're considered "dangerous."
I had this issue way back in 2000s
