[Final Mission] Ordos Gameplay 2024 | Dune II 1992
🚨 Game Highlights: Dune II, 1992. House Ordos

Dune II was the first true playable version of a real-time strategy game. It was developed by Westwood studios and released by Virgin games. Loosely based on the film Dune by David Lynch, it picked up the “2” from its predecessor: Dune, an adventure game.
You can play as one of the three houses (more if you install a mod to the game): Atreides, Ordos and Harkonnen. Each are offered the entire planet as a prize to be won through conquest. Naturally, this does not go as planned and as you progress you will receive heavier retaliation and the two other armies along with the custodial Sardaukar in the final mission.

Nice!
Thank you very much :)
I spent almost 3 hours(my best result) to complete that mission. I rember the first time I tried I waste almost 6 hours and spice was over.. They defeated me.
3 hours ain't that bad I guess. Time flies when you play this game (or any other game haha). But also keep in mind that this was my final mission in my "trio" series. I played the same missions with Atreides and Harkonnen. They're pretty similar so I had more practice, you could say. Have a great day :)
The author is a superb player! Could anyone tell me what do units say please? Just couple of words I don't catch because I'm not a native and I have some listening problems.. I would be really grateful 👉👈
Hi there! Hope this list helps even though it might not be perfect :) General Units (Common to All Houses) 1. **"Acknowledged."** - Used when units accept a command. 2. **"Reporting."** - Units say this when they are selected. 3. **"Moving out."** - Said when units are ordered to move. 4. **"Affirmative."** - Another response to a movement or attack order. 5. **"Yes, sir!"** - A standard acknowledgement for commands. Infantry - **"Yes, sir!"** - Infantry units confirm receiving an order. Troopers - **"Affirmative."** - Troopers acknowledge orders. Trikes and Quads - **"Moving out."** - Trikes and Quads acknowledge a movement command. Siege Tanks - **"Acknowledged."** - Siege Tanks respond when given a command. Carryall - **"Reporting."** - Carryalls announce their readiness when selected. Harvesters - **"Reporting."** - Harvester units say this when selected. - **"Harvesting."** - Said when a Harvester is sent to collect Spice. Ornithopter (Atreides specific) - **"Ornithopter deployed."** - Heard when an Ornithopter is deployed or ordered to attack. Deviators (Ordos specific) - **"Reporting."** - Deviators respond to selection or commands. Devastator (Harkonnen specific) - **"Devastator deployed."** - Heard when a Devastator is deployed. - **"Detonation initiated."** - When a Devastator is ordered to self-destruct. Special Units (Palace Units) - **"Wormsign!"** - **"Ready for orders!"** - Said by Sardaukar (Harkonnen) when selected. - **"Saboteur reporting."** - When a Saboteur (Ordos) is selected.
Everytime this guy builds a concrete slab, god kills a kitten.
haha holy crap! I don't hope so :)
@@Dana_1981😀
Lol or another way to annoy opponent :D shoot 1 missile at his harvester. He will automatically recall him back. then return. then repeat. You can slow down his mining 50% :D Can be done with Raiders in early stage too but he has to have a Carryall active.
Awesome haha. Thanks for the tip 😊😊👍👍
Also stealing :D Yeaah I'm a lifelong Ordos player. You take 2 missile launchers, scout a backdoor with Raiders. Slowly position MLs behind his Construction Yard and take 1 trooper or any infantry available (single trooper is fastest). After few rockets if you are quick you can steal the building. Build WOR at your base. Now you have Troopers from Harkonnen :D or any other tech for that matter 🤣
Oh wow - seems I have met a true Ordos player. Well done with those tips :). Sounds super fun and adds a whole new type of gameplay! :)
Its a shame that computer never knew how to use Ornithopters properly 😁 I always build 4 HT Factories or Starport if available, build orni to 90% and stop it. Prepare an attack and set them loose in the middle of attack for support.
Thanks a lot for those tips. Sounds pretty cool and I hope maybe some of the viewers might benefit from it, should they try the game :)
I would build rocket towers right up into the enemy bases. Easy win.
I’ll admit that sounds super fun if possible and something I’ve never thought about 😂👍 Have a great day!
(Ordos mission 9 comments) Hi ! It's Power. Well done friend. Here's your comments, for you and also other viewers ! At 30:01 watch at that timestamp and for the next minute. You initiate your troops movements to start attacking. You are clicking each unit individually and sending them to a gathering point. The problem is, many of these units are damaged. They have not been picked up for repairs by the Carry All, because their damage is not > than 50%. Therefore, when you select each unit individually, you should MANUALLY send those who have more than 20% damage to the Repair Hangar. Then when they are repaired, send them to the front lines. 30:10 As example, this Deviator you are sending to the frontline is almost 50% damaged. 37:45 In this mission, you have ordered lots of units from the Starport, and the stocks available seem to be holding. The amount of units available from the Starport is variable, sometimes it restocks quickly, sometimes not. Ok, cya in a new series !
Hi Power! Happy to read your last Dune 2 comment :) I forgot to mention it in the video but it struck me yesterday that I don't think I built any units from the Heavy Factory. Everything was delivered for free or bought through Starport. Or maybe I built one unit, can't remember, but I had some pretty decent deals in Starport this time so that's pretty cool :) Felt almost like another "Budget mission" haha. Have a great day :))
@@Dana_1981 cya soon in a new series !
I managed to complete battle for Arrakis with all three houses on the Sega Genesis
Hi there. That sounds pretty cool haha! How did you manage to play it with a controller? Was it doable when selecting so many units and buildings and commanding them around? Have a great day :)
(Ordos mission 8 comments). Hi ! Well done. Here are my comments. At 25:54 if you look carefully, the price of the Siege Tanks in the Starport was only 300 credits (50% off), but you did not see it lol even though you passed on it twice 😄 34:37 KABOOM ! 🤣🤣🤣39:54 Here you can see Fremen warriors. On the Amiga version, they were armed with the "weirding devices" as in the movie; when they fired at a target, it produced an effect similar to the Sonic Tank ! That was something to see. Also on the Amiga, they were the same color as Atreides infantry. 52:00 Enemy Ornithopthers are extremely annoying because NONE of your units can fight back against them. If I had designed this game, I would have allowed Trikes and Quads, which are armed with machine guns, to shoot at flying units.
Hi Power. Thank you very much and thanks for your comments! Yes, I might have missed the Siege Tank prices, that's the fun part of watching it again :) It sounds pretty cool what you mention about the Fremen units. Pretty sneaky to have them same color as Atreides haha. Yes, I absolutely hate those Ornithopthers. Most annoying unit in the game, and it's funny you mention this because I thought the same when playing the mission. That I could not counter them in any way so I just had to move fast in the end so it didn't kill my units or send them back to repair all the time = more downtime. In that regard I guess you could say they're quite well designed, to be as annoying as possible but also a bit strange that no units can counter them. Only one video left. You better go buy some popcorn because it's gonna be a blast :]
(Ordos Mission 7 comments, part 2 final) 2) Could you test the following for me please... Preamble: any structure degrades over time, even those placed on Concrete. Placing on Concrete just greatly reduced the rate of degradation. Main topic: The wall is a useful structure you can build. And when you place it and look at it closely, you can see what looks like Concrete under it. I am wondering if building a Wall automatically places a Concrete block under it ? In other words, is it better to place a Wall on Concrete, or is it a waste ? Here's a way you can test this: a) build two walls, next to each other. Place one on concrete, place the other on bare rock. Place them in a relatively safe place where they don't risk getting damaged by enemy fire. b) Let some time pass and play the mission. From time to time, click each piece of the wall, and see if the one placed on bare rock degrades faster. Cool ?
So that's a fair question and I think I've done my "research" about this when I played Harkonnen. The short answer is (I think) that concrete under a wall does NOT help. I couldn't see any degradation differences back then, so I stopped focusing on concrete under the walls. But I'll try and remember to test it again in the one of the last two videos. :) Have a great day!
@@Dana_1981 Ok cool ! Here's another tip that I feel needs to be revealed before series end: When your starport says "Out of stock" for most of the units you would like to buy, you can do either of the following (confirmed as working on the Amiga): 1) Destroy your starport and build a new on at the same location. OR: 2) Build a 2nd starport. It will work independently of the other, and will have its own stocks.
(Ordos Mission 7 comments, part 1) Hi ! It's Power. It looks like you got the right balance now between too many turrets and not enough units. Great ! Here are your tips: 1) When you get control of a Devastator, you will be in control of it for a good amount of time. Try to move it back towards the enemy base and attack (and destroy) one fragile enemy unit, like a Rocket Launcher, and THEN (D)estroy the tank. You can also alternatively fire a couple shots at an enemy unit, damage it, then move the Devastator next to it THEN (D)etonate it. Note: when you capture an enemy unit, as far as I know, the enemy will not fire on it, it still sees the unit as belonging to him. Which makes all I said above much easier to do. You can also (D)etonate next to enemy fragile building (like Spice Silo) and see the results ! (continued...)
Hey Power! Thanks for your feedback once again. Gonna miss it when I've made my last two Dune 2 videos - unless I find something else you know about :) I will try and see if I can use your tips regarding the Devastator in my next mission. I think I was just having a "blast" detonating them one after another haha. Maybe I was a bit surprised how Harkonnen just kept the coming like they constantly rolled out the factory :) I tried to count for how long I can control a unit and I think it's around 10 seconds. If I have enough time to return a Devastator back to it's home base and detonate I will try and do that next :) Though I do have focus of trying to remove my own units that might be close to a detonation so they don't get damaged too much. Replying to comment two in a second.
This game was my 1st rts as an 8 year old. Ive loved the rts genre ever since

Real-Time Strategic Conflict Dust Front RTS For this channel :) Have a great day! :)
(Ordos mission 6 comments) Hello. The reason that Rocket Launchers were not available is not because you had too many. When you deplete the stocks of a particular vehicle in the Starport market, it takes some time for the stocks to replenish. Somehow the delay is longer on the PC version. Also yes, you really went overboard with the static defenses. Try to have fewer turrets and more vehicles, it's better. The Repair Station becomes very important with this strategy.
Hey Power 😊 I will try to lower my defenses a bit but guess I’m just warming up for the 3 final missions 😀 Have a great evening 😊👍
You can shoot at the spicebloom. No need to sacrifice a unit.
I know mate, you can see it in my latest video 😊 (Mission 6) If I missed the shooting it in this video it was an accident somehow lol 😃😃 Have a great day 😊👍
@@Dana_1981 Hah alright, just funny to see someone play this game. Last time I played it was on my 486SX system in the 90s. Fond memories.
Oh you rich and lucky guy. I could only afford a 386 DX-2 16 MHz (which ran Dune 2 fine haha). Some dude I met had a 486 90MHz and it was mind blowing 😂 But I remember upgrading my PC with a 8 bit Sound Blaster. Such good times 😃😃 I only have 3 missions left with Ordos then my TH-cam trilogy is complete 😃 Have a great day 😊👍
@@Dana_1981 Haha no way I paid for that myself. My mom bought that PC. It was a 25Mhz version with a turbo button. Which of course was always on. I think I was 13 or something.
(Ordos mission 5 comments) Wow ! That was a hard fight. 5 units were lost to the Worm. And some tanks were lost because turrets re-appeared on top of them. Nevertheless you made it because you had a strong economy. Congratulations !
Hey Power! Thanks, and yes, I'm glad you noticed :) Them worms were just extremely annoying! But at least they're gone faster. See you in the next video :) 👉
All I remember about that game is saving up for half the game for 8-10 super expensive fremen, only to have every one of them ran over by 1 Harkonnen tank. I was…..not happy😑
Hi there! Sounds pretty traumatic for sure haha and I can imagine how sad that must have been 😊 Enemy harvesters will also happily hunt down your troops even though it might haven been a tank that started shooting at it 😂 respect the harvesters 😁 Have a great day 😊👍
(Ordos mission 4 comment) Hey it's Power. Great job. For viewers wondering about the Worm: 1) Maps that have worms have 2 worms, not more, not less. 2) Once a worm has eaten 3 units, of any type, its appetite is satisfied and it goes away from the current mission being played. 3) any worm becomes active ONLY when THE PLAYER discovers it by exploring the map. Before that, it's inactive.
Hey Power Thanks for your comment. The sand worms are strange. I tried to lure one of them into eating my infantry relatively early into the mission but it just didn’t bother. I have a feeling it’s programmed into waiting for a while or just eat stuff after a certain position on the map. It had plenty of chances in this mission but it just didn’t bother I guess 😁 (bad stomach maybe?)
its crazy, all the effort you put into these video, even editing them :) DUNE 2 was the first RTS i ever played and believe me, i can appreciate the old games from back in the days VERY MUCH. i still like to play dungeon keeper from time to time.
Oh thank you very much! Yes it does take quite some time but the game is so fun in itself so it makes the editing easier haha. I know how you feel about the nostalgia. It’s always great to revisit these games from time to time 😊 I wish you a great day 😊👍
What is with your intonation? Were you raised by Christopher Walken?
lol that’s a very good question. Sadly (or luckily) it’s not my own voice as you might have guessed. I don’t do it in every video but I try to tell the viewer it’s an AI voice speaking, which I have to use in my type of videos. I wish I had a great English speaking voice even though I’m from Scandinavia but that’s not the case.😊 When I’m done with these Dune 2 videos after Ordos gameplay I’m not sure I need it anymore but we will see. I’m sorry if the voice bothers you but it’s currently the only way I can “communicate” in the video. It’s not perfect by any means but it kind of works so far. Hope that answers your questions 😊😊👍👍 Have a great day 👍
@@Dana_1981 love the game btw, first game I ever bought with my own money, epic memories.
Me too mate - it's just awesome and I'm happy I found it again some 30 years later. Can't quite remember how I got my hands on Dune II back in the day, but if you were young like me I can imagine it would take a while to save up (Delivering newspapers like Paperboy haha). Hope you don't mind I'm mentioning your comment in my Mission 4 Ordos video? It's online now in case you're curious, I just think it was so funny. Have a great day :)
(Ordos mission 3 comments) Hi. Everything went well. I see that you took advantage of infantry's defensive bonus when located on rock. Great ! Here's a suggestion for next mission: when mission starts, build the following 3 structures to start with, in this order: 1x Windtrap, 1x Refinery, 1x Refinery. You might like it !
Hey power! You’re so fast to respond 😊👍 Thanks again for feedback. Will try your tips in the upcoming videos 😊👍 Have a great day!
(Ordos mission 2 comments) Hello. I think you overcomplicated this mission. All you have to do in this mission is collect 2700 credits. Of course, you can instead destroy the enemy base, but that's just overcomplicating the mission.
Hey Power I know but my mentor suggested it was also an option to wipe out the enemy so of course I had to try that 😊 Edit: Which is also a bit more fun to watch for the viewer (I guess) 😁 Have a great day 👍😊
Always go for the wipe out, way more fun
(Ordos mission 1 comments) Hello. Here are a few things to look forward when later you get the Ordos Deviators ! 1) If you capture a Harkonnen Devastator, you gain control of it and you can detonate it !! (hotkey D: Destroy). You can do it immediately or even better, move it next to other Harkonnen units OR Harkonnen buildings, then detonate it ! Don't rush it, as you can keep control of the unit for a good 20 seconds or more. 2) You can capture enemy Harvesters ! And while you have control of the Harvester, you can order it to (R)eturn to base, in which case it will go to your refinery and empty itself there... and yes you will gain the credits ! It's hilarious. Looking forward to see you try it 🤣
Hey Power! Those are some super fun and awesome tips! Thanks :) Can't wait to try it out lol :) Have a great day!
Hello. Good performance. One thing you can do better at start of the mission is to rush a 2nd refinery. Getting a radar quickly isn't as important as having a 2nd refinery (and it gives your a 2nd harvester). You also double your spice storage capacity that way. Having a single refinery for the whole 9th mission, like you did, is quite kamikaze 😆 Also note: a damaged refinery has a reduced performance; it will refine spice slower.
Hi Power Thanks again for your comments. 👍 I actually did what you suggest in my second video that had ruined recordings, but I knew the worm would show up and the fastest way to get rid of it was to just let it eat my harvesters instead of expensive units. I also noticed the second refinery often gets nuked or targeted which means extra repairing or building a new. So this time I bought some extra harvesters from the Starport and even though it does require some management I think it overall went quite all right😃 wouldn’t call it kamikaze 😁 Buying extra refinery also requires more wind power and space used on a sparse area. 😊 Have a great day 😊👍
I'm not sure about Carryall AI but I feel like you need (number of harvesters + 1) of them to have efficient resource gathering + cycling your units out of combat. Also, due to nature of Carryalls pickup of wounded units, they sometimes get shot down by enemy fire, remember to replace them if that happens.
I think you’re right. Sometimes it seems they can’t keep up so a harvester returns on wheels. Or they don’t return the harvester back to the spice because they went to another task. I’ve also noticed they can be shot down so I think you’re right. It’s nice to have plenty of them 😊 Have a great day 😊👍
I think we're not getting new episodes because you tried several times to finish Atreides mission 9 and you keep failing 🤣🤣🤣 Just kidding !
My friend. I will make new episodes also for mission 9 atreides. But I’m hit with some virus right now where I vomit all night combined with diarrhea. Very nasty stuff. Only slept 1 hour this night. So hang on, I just need more energy.
Did you know infantry can move on top of rocks? No need to shuffle them around on buildable land :)
Yes mate. I discussed this with one of my subscribers some time ago. Forgot which video it was. But it’s a pretty funny feature 😊 Have a great day / evening 😊👍
AI? in dune though! HAHA Just teasing.
Yes mate. Also in Dune 😁👍 Have a great day / evening 😊
@@Dana_1981 Was it? I missed it. I thought AI was banned in Dune. That's why they have Human super computers. Will do thank you, thanks hope you do too!
I think you were right. Just checked up on it. 😁👍
With single Construction Yard, while pumping Missile Turrets, you cannot spent gains from two Harvesters. Consider investing in a Silo or two to stockpile the excess for when you need it. Also, from what I see, the enemy seems to target Devastators and Repair Facilities for some reason, create a trap by stashing these in an area heavily guarded by turrets ;)
Thank you for your tip. I think you're right, in my mission 8 from yesterday (Atreides) my Repair Factory got nuked. Will check it out tonight when I record Final Mission for Atreides :) Have a great day / evening :)
Hey Power :) Thank you for all your comments once again :) I will take note of these and try to incorporate them into the next and final mission with Atreides :) Have a great day!!
yessir
(mission 8 comments part 3) 6) At 25:35 You have a Spice Silo placed right next to the Yard. Spice Silos are supremely fragile are are the worst building to place next to the Yard when you're facing Death Hands. Ok, that's it !
(mission 8 comments part 2) 4) The 2nd Death Hand destroyed 2 Wind Traps, however it fell close to your Construction Yard too and the Yard lost about 40% of its health. You didn't realize that until much later. You didn't repair the Yard. Therefore all your buildings were constructed at a much slower speed (+40% construction time). 5) Take a look at your buildings placement at exactly 22:00 ... next to your Construction Yard, you have: 3 Windtraps, 1 Radar, 1 Starport. Since the Death Hand is always targeting your Yard, you would be wise to have a different base design. Placing these buildings 4-5 tiles away from the Yard would help a lot in mitigating Death Hand damage. This principle will be critical in the next mission where you will face TWO enemy palaces able to launch Death Hands, therefore hitting you twice more often. (continued...)
(mission 8 comments part 1) Hey there ! It's Power. Here are my comments. 1) Fremen Warriors: three groups of Fremen spawn when Atreides use their Palace. Therefore, if you're playing Atreides, you will not have the Fremen against you. It's still a good idea to have a pair of missile turrets in the rear of your base, since SARDAUKARS can get dropped there by dropship 2) I noticed you have a new channel logo ! Cool. 3) At 6:35 the first enemy unit is about to appear on the minimap. Look at the minimap and you will see an enemy unit appear (I think it;s a Rocket tank). Immediately after at 6:36, the first Death Hand is launched at you. Therefore on the PC version, the first Death Hand is launched at the moment you find the first enemy unit; on the Amiga version, it was when the enemy first "sees" your Construction Yard with one of its unit. (continued...)
(mission 7 comments). Hello. Nice performance ! We saw a bunch of Rocket Launchers purchased at -50% (225 CR) and Siege Tanks at -50% (300 CR). Also, yes the Sonic Tank must be micro-managed well to avoid friendly fire. And yes it has 1 fewer range than the Rocket Launcher. It can't safely attack enemy rocket turrets. Also: 1) the PC version has many improvements over the Amiga version, HOWEVER on the Amiga, only the Atreides can have Ornithopters (which makes sense). In the PC version, I can say I saw everything: first, Harkonen Ornithopters, and now ORDOS Ornithopters ?? Haha ! 2) Try the tip I previously gave you: with the Construction Yard selected, press keyboard shortcut B to build currently selected building, then press P once built to start the placement process. Using this is a sign of a great player: you don't have to move your cursor to the right and click, so you save a bit of time ;-)
Hey Power! Thanks for watching and commenting another video! Yes, it's very nice to buy units at a discount - specially if you have the Credits in that very moment :) I will try the tip you mention for Mission 8 :) .. the scrolling part can be a bit annoying yes, so it's nice to make your own bit of QoL :) Have a great day / evening :)
(mission 6 comments). Well done overall. Yes your budget was tiny, only 2 harvesters ?? Whoa... one of the best investment you can make in the Starport is to buy a pair of Harvesters at a discount price. Try that next time. There were some heavily discounted Harvesters that I could see (however briefly) when you were scrolling down. Harvester normal price is 300, so you can expect to find Harvesters in the Starport at 120 (-60%) or 150 (-50%) credits each.
Hey Power :) I see what you mean, but I think having 4 harvesters instead of 2 would just bring me to the "Credit-Cap" even faster with more spice lost :) Have a great day :)
@@Dana_1981 get a few Silos then lol
I could do that but I didn't need the "money" that much. I was on a budget :)
yes crush with the huge tanks ^^
Never gets old, does it 😊👍
Damn this reminds me of command and conquer
Yes, its awesome! I know what you mean and I "accidently" bought some new future content to choose from, for this channel, not long ago :) Have a great day :) Command & Conquer Command & Conquer: The Covert Operations Command & Conquer: Red Alert Command & Conquer: Red Alert: Counterstrike Command & Conquer: Red Alert: The Aftermath Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun Firestorm Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge Command & Conquer: Renegade Command & Conquer: Generals Command & Conquer: Generals: Zero Hour Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars: Kane's Wrath Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3: Uprising Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight
(mission 5 comments) Hi ! Good job overall. I laughed a lot when I saw you place your 2 infantry units on solid, dark brown patches of rock ! Hahaha ! Also: 10:02 and 19:57 A Message appears briefly on screen: "Insufficient spice storage available. Spice is lost" 😪😪😪
Hey Power Thank you very much! I’m not sure what else to do with infantry other than let them watch the base from above 😁 For sure this wasn’t my best gameplay haha. Guess I started too early in the morning with recording 😊 Have a great day 👍😊
(comments Mission 4 Atreides) Very well done. A few comments regarding the minimap: 1) On the Amiga, the Sandworm didn't show on the minimap, but it does on the PC version. 2) On the Amiga, once you selected a unit, you could not click on the minimap to send it to that location. You had to move the current map vision to the intended destination, then click the spot you wanted the unit to move. That added substantially to the difficulty.
Thank you very much 😊 Yes, I see what you mean. It’s a great help to just click on the mini map even in the “fog” zones. Speeds up sending units by a lot. When they get closer to the target you can set them to attack more precisely. The chance of you clicking perfectly on a building to attack from the mini map is pretty slim. Have a great day / evening 😊👍
I beat every campaign the same summer I bought this game for my Sega Genesis. I pulled my bed mattress off the frame, right up against the TV stand, and played it every day, only stopping to sleep, eat, and sleep. I wouldn't turn the console off, would pause when I had to get up or sleep, then when I got back or woke up I'd un-pause the game and start right back where I left off. Did the same thing but a lot faster with Final Fantasy Tactics when I got it for the Playstation. Great times man, great times.
Holy crap that sounded like great fun. Sounds like some of your best times, since you remember it so well! But it also sounded like the true gaming spirit haha. Eat, game, sleep, repeat! Can't say I haven't done it either, just with Diablo 1 + 2. Such good memories! Have a great day / evening :)
Mission 3 finished. Well done. Funny thing I noticed: the worm didn't bother any of your units, didn't eat them, even though it passed on their square. I guess that's because you're Atreides ?? If that's the case, then this is particular to the PC version, because I am 100% certain it didn't work that way on the Amiga version. P.S. yes Atreides units are a bit weaker than the rest. Their infantry do not carry missile launchers, which are useful against enemy vehicles.
I noticed that too but I think there’s built in some timer or you have to be in a certain area to trigger the worm to eat you. There are two worms roaming in the beginning. I guess it would be unfair if they ate all my starter troops. I actually made an exception this mission where I had to redo the recording because I got interrupted by phone calls, and in my first try, the worm surely ate a lot of my troops. I still have the old footage of this. But they don’t attack the worm like Harkonnen did so.. Anyway have a great day and see you in the next video 😊👍
@@Dana_1981 yes on the Amiga, Atreides would shoot at worm only if manually ordered to do so, just like in the PC version.
Well done. Also, I'm pretty sure that if the Construction Yard is selected, pressing keyboard shortcut "B" will start construction on the current building selection, and keyboard shortcut "P" will trigger the placement process once construction is finished.
Thank you mate! Thanks for supporting the channel with tips and tricks. Sounds like a fun tip - never seen that before. Gonna try it out in Mission 4 :) Have a great day / evening. :)
@@Dana_1981 ok cool. Also, there's a tip for infantry: when moving on the dark brown patches of rock (not just regular rock), they move at half speed, BUT they also take half normal damage. I believe knowing that came handy for me once or twice.
It would be super fun to build an army on top of rocks with Heavy Troopers. But not with Light Infantry of course. I think the Fremen unit would be available to Atreides much later in the game through the Palace? Or maybe I don't remember it right. Will see when I get there :)
@@Dana_1981 yes, available later, with the Palace.
Well done. If I may suggest, for the Ordos much later, you could make 1 episode for Missions 1 and 2, and 1 episode for Missions 3 and 4. Since these missions are very short.
Thank you :) Great suggestion - will have it in my mind when that time comes :) Have a great day!
Hey guys. If you’re new to this channel, video or Dune 2 in general, make sure to check out my complete House Harkonnen gameplay Playlist on the channel. THIS video is the first of 9 missions with the blue House Atreides. 👍
(mission 9 comments part 3, final) ... 7) The "large, long range, powerful missile" as you call it is called "Death Hand" in the game. They are part of a class of nuclear weapons. In Dune lore, the general term for nuclear weapons is "Atomics". Here's how the Death Hand works in the game: a) it always targets your Construction Yard, if you have one. b) it's extremely inaccurate. c) It will usually miss your Construction yard, instead falling in a random direction and random distance from your shipyard. d) The enemy needs to have "seen" your Construction Yard with one of its units before their Death Hand can be fired. e) As soon as your Construction yard is located, it will be fired at for the first time. f) Building a low/very low number of structures around your shipyard is an excellent idea, since it's always being targeted. Most important/expensive/fragile structures should be built a safe distance away from it. Allright that's it !
Yes, I know it's the Death Hand - it's even posted as a quiz on my page :). Maybe I could have mentioned it in the video but I also don't have any footage of the Death Hand. I'm always scared of watching when I hear the "Warning, Missile Launched" haha. So I try to scroll away and hope they don't hit any critical structures, which is bad, if you want to show it in a video like this :) Anyway, have a great day and hope to see your comments in the next video(s)! 👍
(mission 9 comments part 2) ... 3) I saw you use the DESTROY command on a Devastator, I had a big laugh ! haha ! Big damage ! 4) You ran most of the mission on a single refinery. That was foolish looool 5) I really liked that you ordered those 3 Combat Tanks near the end of the mission. They're not that bad and very inexpensive. I remembered once buying a pack of 5 from the Starport on the last mission, because nothing else was available. 6) Here's how spice storage works: each refinery can store around 1200 spice, and each Spice Silo adds another 1000 units. Several times during the campaign you ran out of spice storage space and lost spice. The game tells you when that happens with a specific message. Investing in a pair of Spice silos is a great idea. This is also why having a single refinery is a bad thing. (continued...)
Yeah I know I don't always play perfectly. I've said that before and I record in first try all the time, while I'm trying to memorize some of the strategies I used some 30 years ago :) But even with just 1 refinery most of the time I was still able to win, so no big deal I guess :) Just a bit more Harvester management, which can be a pain of course :) I'll try and build more silos for future videos :)
(mission 9 comments part 1) Aaaaaaaah ! What a satisfying episode !! Several times you were able to buy Starport units at the minimum price (Rocket Launchers at 180, or Heavy Siege Tanks at 240) !! It felt great. Here is a few more interesting comments. 1) On the Amiga version, it was not possible to select a group of infantry troopers (or any other unit) and order them to shoot at a "Spice Trap". The only way to "open" a Spice Trap was to run over it with a unit (usually a low cost unit), opening the trap, but destroying the unit at the same time. 2) Also, on the Amiga, only the Atreides were ever able to build Ornithopters or order them from Starport. But I see that in this version you're playing, Ornithopters were available for the Harkonens to buy from the Starport !! (continued...)
Hey Power. Yes, it's great when you see a nice offer =) (and have the money to buy it 😄) Glad you liked the video 👍
