Video Forever | an art book written and illustrated by Tony Rodriguez
Summary:
"Video Forever" is an art book written and illustrated by Tony Rodriguez. The drawings were created during a 31-day drawing challenge, capturing both active and inactive video storefronts. Alongside the illustrations, Rodriguez provides a captivating, educational, and humorous commentary in the format of an R-rated diary, with insights on his illustration process, the circumstances that led to each drawing, his ongoing love of video stores, and the illustration health benefits and how-to’s of drawing challenges.
"Video Forever" acts as an illustration-based time capsule, immortalizing some of the most saturated and colorful video storefronts from around the world. Opening the book allows readers to press play on a nostalgic journey through these unique storefronts, blending art, storytelling, education, and the enduring charm of the video store era.

Specs:
Video Forever is an 8”x8” smith sewn art book with a matte finish that sits about a half inch thick with 84 full color pages. In the text, there are 31 full color video store illustrations, sketches, and diary components highlighting the author’s personal anecdotes, and insight on how to pursue month-long drawing challenges. The book begins with a foreword by Matt Booth of Videodrome ATL.
Reviews:
"Tony and I share a history that spans many years. He authentically embodies the essence of a true artist, consistently walking the walk. This cool little book is a testament to his genuine artistic spirit. The uniqueness of the artwork resonates, and I can distinctly hear his voice in the narratives. Filled with quirky stories and complemented by some captivating illustrations, what's not to love?"
Tim Jacobus: Illustrator behind the iconic Goosebumps series.
"Tony's work throughout this series genuinely encapsulates not just a personal frame of mind of an artist giving his unique spin on the diverse world of cinema, but also provides insight into an artist's mind, brimming with perspective, critical thought, and intent. These notions truly anchor the uniqueness of this series in print form. It's not too common for an artist to come off as candid or deliberate as this."
Sam Wolfe Connelly: Illustrator extraordinaire, known for his exceptional work with A24, DC Comics, and Mondo.
"Tony's appealing style, mixed with the off-the-cuff way he describes each piece, is one and the same. The color choices, the sketchy dreamy line work, and overall compositions take me right back to those good old days. I can smell the cigarettes, the stained carpets, and the chatter of those many trips seeking shelter in these rainy day sanctuaries. The serendipitous discovery of pulling a random tape off the shelf, the counsel and insight from 'the guy behind the counter,' the 'Employee Picks' rack-the list goes on and on. This series makes me want to dive right into the pages and never come back."
"Tony's book transported me back to the golden era of VHS, beautifully capturing my favorite video store in LA with an awesome illustration. This book is a must-have for anyone who knows what's up!"
Ernie Reyes Jr.: Action-packed Martial Arts actor, renowned for roles in Surf Ninjas, TMNT II, and The Last Dragon.
Anthony Rizzo, aka @iamsteelberg: Designer for Sony, HBO, and Bad Robot, crafting retro magic.
"I owned a video store for almost 20 years, so seeing the unique way Tony pays homage to them is especially interesting to me. Each facade stands on its own, outside the influences of the actual street it’s built on. Store logos, neon open signs, and window displays dominate the scene. It’s interesting to see the occasional remnants of the outside world poking into these isolated video store worlds, like graffiti, a parked bike, or street lights. Video stores are sacred places to the people who frequent them. Tony’s work reminds us of the individuality each one represents to the greater population, but more importantly to the sense of individuality we see within ourselves."

Adobe Illustrator Color Application Tutorial (Basic)
You’re the best for all the things you shared in this video! I wanted to get better at landscapes and digital art in general so I thought watching Bob Ross would be a great way to do that. Then I started and got frustrated immediately because I couldn’t find a way to make my art look remotely similar to the painted style he has. Thank you SO Much for making this video! And all the work you put into it and its description! It helped me so much and made finishing the first piece WAY more enjoyable!
Do you do these all in one layer or nah
Thanks Tony, for the video and list of brushes used! New to Procreate. I took lessons from a Bob Ross instructor for a few years in the late 90s here in Ontario.
New sub. This is stunning. Time for a live stream tutorial.
Thank you, thank you!! I’ve tried a few Bob Ross paintings myself on Procreate, but wasn’t completely confident in my style.
Was looking for this exact tutorial. What an amazing job, it was just perfect for me. Did you tweak any of the brushes or did you use them as is? Thanks a million.
Someone know a option for android?
Awesome
Don‘t forget to beat the devil out of that apple pen everytime you switch to other brushes! Great video, i loved it:)
i dont paint or draw whatsoever, but this was interesting
Thank you so much! This really helps!
thank you my friend!
I've been wanting to try my hand at a Bob Ross painting on Procreate and stumbled across your video. Thank you, thank you! Your approach to this method is brilliant!
You have a calming voice just like Bob. I bet the big guy would have been thrilled to see a video like this.
One thing I didn’t hear was when I should beat the devil out of it
Beautiful
This is so beautiful! Your tutorial is the best I have ever seen translating Bob Ross painting style in Procreate. I certainly will be following your Chanel. I would love to see an in-depth tutorial. That will be nice for someone like me who has transitioned from painting with acrylics on canvas to Procreate. Love it my brother. From one landscape painter to another, One Love. Blessings!
I cant find flicks brush and damp brush for land mass
I was able to get good evergreens using the leatherwood tool
I will say its a nice tutorial, but the fact that you show a very blurred version and then skip it to being crisp and clean is a little frusterating since you dont explain how you get your bushes so clean and crisp.. great word though it looks beautiful
Great translation of the Bob Ross version of his instructor Bill Alexander's technique! Bill was the best.
Thanks for the tips. Much appreciated.
like a motion comic <3
This was amazing! Watching gave me a very similar calm to the one I get while watching The Joy of Painting, just with an updated medium. Super thankful for this video and the time you took to create it❤
Where is the touchups category?
Under “materials” you will see fine hair and short hair
Coisa lixo e eu tô aqui pra fazer o que .ninguém merece mesmo assistir isso
I’ve spent hours and hours trying to create brushes in Procreate to emulate the bob ross wet in wet style, I do actually paint using his method(in a hit and miss fashion) and want to avoid the “happy accidents” which contrary to Bobs teaching can end up as mud on the canvas. This has shown me you can use procreate to dry run composition and eliminate the write offs… thank you…
Learning is only cool if it is something you are interested in XD
Please do more of these videos! You deserve way more subs!
Best tutorial I’ve ever seen. Have you ever done a full tutorial? I’d like to know more of your details. I’ve been trying to a Bob Ross painting on Procreate for years!
Fabulous tutorial. Where do o find shorthair and fine hair and Nikki rull brushes??
Fine and short hair is under “materials” while nikko rull is under “painting”
Wow.. excellent coloring techniques👍💕
Burnt tree! Like and subscribe! Please more landscapes!
This was a lovely experience. You 100% made Bob proud ;)
Good job on this tutorial! As a total noob in digital painting, I wish you would go slightly slower, like a real time full lenght recording. Happy painting!🙂
Could you do a tutorial on clouds alone ? I am having trouble making the shapes. Mine are coming out like kids cartoons.
Excellent tutorial! This will save me lot of time experimenting with procreate brushes. Thanks.
Great Dear bro 👍👍👍,🙏🙏
Could you recommend some oil paints that are very dry, for Bob Ross style painting? Thank you.
One word. Awesome ,,We love Bob and will forever miss him glad your keeping it up bra.
Instruction unclear i beat my graphic tablet pen under the table like how i beat the devils

Didn't expect the outro! Tt is an instant relaxer when that music comes. I hope you get a lot more recognition, this is so soothing and really instructive at the same time.
Very cool credits to the brushes that created this masterpiece with you! 😂
Man, you deserve more subscribers!!!!!
is it possible to narrate this on Ibis Paint X?
Great video! Thank you!
As a new digital art user, this video was really helpful - I had my own shot and it turned out alright so thanks for the advice!
Thanks bro
