clear explanation of how to create and use graphite ground
I have been painting for so many years, and I haven't seen this kind of an instructive video for beginners (and myself) in TH-cam. Thank you for going through brush types, and the effects they create for people who are new to this domain. There is one comment I want to add, though: lately, brush makers have started making three types of flat brushes for watercolor to confuse people, and that also includes me: one-stroke brushes, shaders and wash brushes. One stroke brush has longer hair compared to a wash brush, and it is meant to carry more water with similar snap characteristics of a wash brush. Shaders have slightly less hair and sharper at the tip, but about the same length of a wash brush. In all honesty, when I tried all these three types, I saw no difference :-)) Although I prefer one-stroke just because they carry more water to finish your stroke.
What is a designers brush? I got one recently but cant find a y videos on them?
Hi Susie, only just found you on YT thanks to your beautiful and inspiring book Still Life which I have just purchased. This video is so useful because although I knew some of the techniques I didn't know all of the ones you showed. My ex and his friend also both studied at Ravensbourne and went on to successful teaching careers. Are you still posting any videos? Thank you so much :)
Thank you so much. The Ravensbourne days seem so long ago… I haven’t posted any videos for a while but I have every intention of doing some more in the future…
A very nice treasure map, I love it
Can not download outlines.
Oh Jane. I’m really sorry about that. The video was made over two years ago so maybe the link has expired. I don’t know what to suggest, I’m afraid…
Loved watching how you made these - they are really lovely and inspires me to have a go at making my own. The process was really fascinating to watch!
These are really gorgeous - thank you for sharing the video. I loved watching the first part - it was mesmerising! I am going to give this method a try - I love that it was just doodling but when you added the watercolour and then the gouache too it transformed it - beautiful!
Thank you! I hope you get a good result. Happy Christmas!
Thanks so much this is going to help me with my school competition
That's great! I wish you every success in the competition.
Fantastic!

you’re an amazing artist
The drawing is nice but the tip is a littke slanted
It's quite remarkable how many people fall for the marketing trick by Faber Castell to name the pencil "graphite", although B's, especially the darker B's like 14B, do not contain much graphite anymore, but much coal. Even though "graphite" is printed on those pencils as well, it's simply not what they consist of in the first place. I don't see a revolution in this, I just see Faber Castell marketing claiming it would be a revolution. It is not.
Wow
Oh my god i cant belive this because gave me the heart for my comment
Very very wonderful
Thank you... I will be uploading part 2 later today.

Thanks for the relatively succinct review. I started watching another, but after 4 minutes the reviewer hadn't even made a mark with the new pencils, and the video had 23 minutes to go! Also, I very much enjoyed your drawing of the sharpener and shavings.
YAYYYY! There's a MATT graphite pencil with very dark tones! I am happy! 😆 I certainly like your video and drawing! Hopefully I will get these pencils soon . Thank you for sharing!🖋🖊🖌🖍
Thank you for your feedback...
@@susiejohns8375 You are very welcome!🌻
Is it the same as the Staedtler Black?
No, not the same, though I haven’t tested the Staedtler or Mars Black. These are matt - but their USP is that they come in softer grades, including 10B, 12B and 14B.
@@susiejohns8375 thank you maam for the reply.
The Mars lumigraph are quite a bit darker in practice.
