would loe to see more een hire a bike that way if possable
Mental health issues make things so much harder, but the extra challenge can be welcome. Suffering situational anxiety, PTSD, damaged spine and a whole host of other issues, at 55 years old and 350lb in weight, I set out in August 2017 from Cheshire without any prior bicycle touring practice or experience, on a brand new bike with untested gear, solo and self supported. 16 months later I had cycled in 12 countries and 12ooo Kim’s to southern Thailand. Sure, it was so hard mentally and physically, but worth every pedal stroke.
Well done!!! That is inspiring, good on you! The mental part of anything is always the toughest part for me. Cycling Vietnam, the physical part was far less an issue than I thought it would be whereas the mental part was much tougher. But I'm SO glad I did it! Your journey sounds epic.. Which 12 countries did you go through?
Just checked out your channel, that will probably answer my question! I'll give your videos a watch :)
200 km - double kudos to you !
Thanks!
A very interesting video. Enjoyed listening to your thoughts. I live in London and I can understand Greg's thoughts on cycling in the traffic I get an adrenalin rush from it my wife thinks Im taking my life into my hands everytime I hit the roads 😁 Interesting to hear how you cope with the cultural differences. Enjoying this series 😁
Thanks! Yeah it was pretty crazy to get used to. Greg thrived in the traffic whilst I concentrated on surviving 😂I did find the Vietnam bike tour pretty challenging with the cultural differences. It was both mentally exhausting and fascinating!
Now thats a perfect theme park for me - I have two children one with Autistic Spectrum Disorder one with Social Communication Disorder they would be very happy there 😁 amazing to see that place so empty of people wow !
Yes, it would be the perfect theme park for them! I'm not a fan of crowds so really liked it! 😃
What a fantastic series that was watching you progress from newbie to fully fledged cyclist and really well done for all the things you have overcome or learnt to deal with as David Bowie once sang "We can all be heros just for one day!" CHAPEAU !
Thank you SO much for your lovely comment! That's lovely to hear :)
Thank you for taking us with you!
Aunty B and thank you for following along with us! Thank you for your comments, we really appreciate them :)
I want to hear more from the female half, love her positivity in the face of Anything!
Aunty B Aww thanks! I feel awkward in front of the camera but your comment gives me encouragement :)
Great video. So glad you did it. Just started to eat a plant based diet myself. I suffer with schizophrenia, anxiety, and lack of confidence.I hope I will feel just as amazing as you look also. There is something magical about eating a plant based diet.
Lorraine Gooden Thank you! It's been life changing, make sure you eat enough, eat foods you enjoy and don't be too hard on yourself.. Each day is a fresh start! Enjoy the process :) Wishing you all the best x
hey greg when you were on the aeroplane, did the dry air dry your skin??
i'm the only person who watched this
The Lord Jesus Christ loves you so much! "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" (John 14:6). Thank you for reading. "The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace" (Numbers 6:24-26). Have a good day! Amen in Jesus Christ most precious name!
I am soooooo proud of you!!! Well done!!!! I get what you mean about this mental/physical barrier, and you crushed it!
Thank you so much!!! :)
Amazing!!! Well done! That is some going, especially when it's so hot. Well done girl. Not long before Inthanon 😋
Katie Kookaburra Thank you!!!! Inthanon inches ever closer.. Xx
Same goes for - I have excess weight Instead of - I AM fat
Tonytruand09 yup totally!
7:42 I know what you did there! 😂👌🏾 but she was not having it! Congratulations for this PB!!! 🍾🥂🎖 30 min is huge! Seeing this climb brings happiness to me day! Thank you 😊
Tonytruand09 lol, the hilarity of Greg saying 'attack' at that moment and me plodding away!😂 thanks for your support and encouragement! :)
Just watched a load of your videos this morning and really enjoyed watching your journey. Not just the journey to Paris but your journey with anxiety and panic attacks. Very inspiring, thanks for sharing.
Neil Conroy Thank you so much for this comment, it means a lot to me!
You did an absolutely incredible! Well done. You should be really proud. And don't feel bad about the time in Feb, my first ever go up there I only ever went half way for ages. Then to the actual top it took me around two hours. Now I'm down to under 50 minutes. So keep on pushing and you will get fitter and faster. Well done :) xx
Katie Kookaburra Thanks Katie! Love your supportive comments :) Thank you so much! Xx
3:37 are all the rooms named after Louis haha
Haha now there's an idea! All the rooms seemed to be named, in Greg's words, "after old french dudes" lol
You did an incredible job you pair!! Honestly what an epic first big ride. You should be so proud. Woop woop! And..... rest :) xx
Yeahhh, warmth and letting you keep the bikes inside! That's my kind of place :)
I am soooo happy for you!
3:10 Paris' architecture is soooo recognisable! Beautiful
Pushing through! Good luck!
Nice video! New sub!
I don't know what's more amazing, a guy goind around the world in 80 day in a bike or you guys pedaling to Paris :D Congrats
That path is SO good!!! They have them in Australia too. What a great route :)
Well done!!! I love love love the clip near the start when you arrive and you put the camera to Greg and it looks like he looks away haha. What an adventure!!
Katie Kookaburra haha! Hadn't noticed that :) Thanks, yeah, it's a great adventure! Xx
Hi you lot were eating sweets, but doesn't greg recommend not to eat those foods also you are getting married to greg you look much older than him, how old is he and you?
No ferry and no air b&b... bloomin eck! It's all part of the adventure right?! :) ahhhh we are glad you liked the sweeties. Congrats again you pair of cycling legends! Xx
Katie Kookaburra Haha, thanks Katie!! The sweets were delicious, even more so because I really needed the sugars at that moment ;) xxx
Beans for teh win, good luck guys :)
Luis GO V Can't beat beans ;) thanks!
Good luck with this Sarah. When are you doing it again?
Jacq Of All Trades thank you! Two weeks tomorrow, 12th September we set off :)
Best of luck mate, you will smash it! My first big ride was a 100km audax. I didn't know anything about nutrition or hydration on a ride, and on top of that I rocked up on my own to the start line but I was too anxious to ask anyone what the hell I was supposed to do! 🤣 I was just about scraping by within the time limit when I realised I'd ridden 5 miles past an info control and not written the info down. 😬 I ended up cycling back and then doing my first ever TT into a an awful headwind to get to the main control on time, which I just managed to do but had nothing left in the tank to carry on. 😂
James Jinks lol, thanks James for that story, really good to know I'm not the only one who gets anxious and has all kinds of problems in the beginnings.. Well done to you for getting where you are and doing the rides you are doing now, very inspiring. Thanks for the encouragement and support, really appreciated meeting you and riding with you! :)
YES!!!!! Sarah I have every faith that you will not just ride it but you will completely smash it! Remember that we ALL struggle at points on rides even those we look up to. You can do it! I'm excited to see your travels. Cheering for you all the way 🚴🏽♀️😎💪🏼
Katie Kookaburra Thank you SO much Katie!! That's really encouraging, thanks for the support!! I'm really excited too, it was great meeting you and riding with you :)
The show makes a heck of a racket but kids love it. A man of about 80, wearing a Parker, and riding what looked like a child's bike, past me at speed on the steepest part, while I was struggling :)
Stephen Peel Very random! :) I struggled there too.
wow that's amazing
