Hello everyone and welcome to the Phantom Motorsports TH-cam channel. Take a seat and watch me ponder engineering ideas, fabricate and construct prototypes and try my best to advance humanity into the future with innovative design and manufacturing. Also will be building cool cars while I'm at it, stay tuned!
496 Big Block Chevy Short Block Assembly (Zed's Motor is BACK!)
Feel like I’ve been waiting for this motor for ages, but machine shops are like that sometimes. The sleeve came out perfect and is hardly noticeable, should work well! In this video watch as I clean up and paint the engine and get the bottom end assembled, trying to blueprint the best I can but I do have some piece of mind given it was a running motor before It had to come apart. If you’ve never done this before there are a couple tricks to getting the thrust set and the rear main seal to not leak, make sure to do your due diligence!
In the next video I’ll show degreeing the cam and getting more components installed. Still need to measure for the custom length pushrods necessary with the solid roller cam! Going to be another learning experience but that’s what it’s all about, happy to be wrenching while the weather is bad and taking my time to iron out all the details. GOING TO BE A RUNNER, I can feel it! :)

Stew Drip Rail Shave!! (1969 Nova Drip Rails Go Bye Bye)
มุมมอง 1593 หลายเดือนก่อน
One from the archives! Last winter I finally bit the bullet and took the angle grinder to the drip rails. Kind of a crazy thing to do to one of these classics but I have a plan to make it look seamless. Trying to get the god dang Camaro back together soon but still waiting on the old big block from the machinist. That content will be coming soon and also will be putting together a hodge podge v...
Zed the Z Gets Mini Tubs!!! (1971 Camaro Mini Tub Supercut)
มุมมอง 945 หลายเดือนก่อน
Working through this old footage I have and getting it uploaded! The old Camaro now has mini tubs and is ready for some big wheels and tires (when the time comes). Tons of work getting these in here but I tried some unconventional approaches that worked and didn't ;) I'm working on another collaborative video as we speak that will showcase a few different projects in one. The car is still down ...
ZED'S TKO600 GETS UPGRADED!!!
มุมมอง 596 หลายเดือนก่อน
Finally getting around to getting a couple videos out! In this video watch me as I rebuild and upgrade my TKO600 transmission with new carbon fiber synchronizers, updated components from Liberty Gears and switch to a 0.82 overdrive. Thankfully everything came together, and the transmission is working flawlessly. Sadly, the Camaro swallowed a bolt, but I’ll have it back up and running before you...
Zed's Front End Disassembly!!! (1971 Camaro Front Suspension Removal)
มุมมอง 15010 หลายเดือนก่อน
Getting back around to posting some Zed content, the Nova is on hold for a little while and during this time I'm working on getting the Camaro upgraded for the upcoming season. A little longer video this time but there's lots of content and a pretty detailed removal process of the short long arm front suspension found on these cars. Still waiting on my RideTech upper control arms but once it al...

Just got all the other sheet metal in epoxy and after I get the drip rails shave the car will be headed ba...
2004-2008 TSX Sound System and Android Head Unit Installation!
มุมมอง 652ปีที่แล้ว
Been a while! Should be posting more, I know. I’ve got a Stew video for you here shortly and just got some parts back from the blasters. Finally got my Android head unit in the TSX and after much trial and tribulation everything is operational! Sound system is sweet and is just enough. Too much subwoofer can sometimes distort perceptions, so I think going with the one 10” subwoofer was the righ...
What the heck Stew?!?! (1969 Nova Quarter Panel and Mini Tub Part 2)
มุมมอง 681ปีที่แล้ว
Back at it on the Stew progress! Making short work of this side and got all the inner sheetmetal installed. Next video will be getting everything sprayed with epoxy, seam sealed and then pasting that quarter panel on. Hopefully you all are enjoying this series it's been a long one but I can see the end on these quarter panels. My recommendation is to make sure to test fit and test fit until you...
Stew Gets Butchered?! (1969 Nova Quarter Panel and Mini Tub Part 1)
มุมมอง 862ปีที่แล้ว
Got the quarter panel cut off and might’ve gotten the mini tub fitted might not of! Went way faster than the other side but holy moly still a ton of work for a weekend. Staying committed to the old project though. Once I get both quarters on and I’m happy with the fitment it’s time to send the body panels (doors, trunk lid, and fenders off to the media blaster and get to work stripping the pain...
Left Hand Quarter Panel Hits Wrong! (1969 Nova Quarter Panel Replacement)
มุมมอง 4.2Kปีที่แล้ว
Finally got the drivers quarter panel on the old Nova, feels good to get it completed :D Not perfect but way better than the skins that were on there and with the mini tubs we are gonna be able to rock some serious meats. In the middle of doing the other side now and let me tell you, it's going way faster. Look for that video soon where I go into more detail and really show the rigorous process...

Hey everyone! It's been a while, I've been working on a new car for the channel and it's a 2004 TSX. I've named the car Sapphire for the blue accenting that is common inside the car! It's been a really excellent daily driver so far, these old Japanese Acuras rock and look dang good with just a couple subtle modifications. Stew Gets Dropped Off and Wheelhoused! (1969 Nova Trunk Drop Off and Wheelhouse Install)
มุมมอง 921ปีที่แล้ว
Another Stew update video, slowly but surely we're making headway. Sadly I only get to work on this on the weekends so we're steady plotting but not making monumental progress in these! In this little update video I got the mini tub, outer wheelhouse and trunk drop off (with extension) pasted on the car. Went back and forth about the epoxy and black but we got it dialed in now with both. Look f...

Stew Gets a Seat and Rear Floor Patches!!!
Hey man i saw a post that you made on a prelude formula a couple years ago i have a couple questions im in the same boat in buying a prelude you think i can contact you !?
Prelude formula? Hit me up man, @phantomotorsportswa on instagram.
Looks great! I can't wait to start in on my Nova's Metal work. it already has good paint but it's just so ordinary with no custom work.
Kind of a wild thing to do to a classic but I think it will look very clean in the end! Thanks for watching 🙂
We’re did you plug the RCA from the head unit my amp won’t work
I plugged it into the singular green RCA, you also have to change the settings in the equalizer (there’s an amp on/off and also the level settings are important). Lastly don’t forget to run the remote wire if you haven’t already! You can hit me up on my Instagram if you need more help @phantommotorsportsWA
How is the android head unit holding up after 11 months? Also hoe was your experience with alibaba
Holding up great! Really no issues with it at all, I’d say my main reservation would be the speed it turns on at times but it’s not really an issue. Maybe like 10 seconds if the battery has been disconnected.
Put a battery in your smoke detector!
Haha my dad has it rigged up on a switch, we need a better solution...it's annoying for me as well. On it boss.
It’s nice to full quarters being installed ,not like the other way cutting them right across the middle. All the bodywork you after do and you would see that seem inside also without the interior .
Yes totally agree man! Do it once and do it right, it all comes out better in the end.
What would you suggest if a guy had to put a new trunk floor in as well as the mini tubs at the same time? I’m just worried that if I tear all of it apart at once I won’t be able to get it all back where it belongs!😬😬
That’s a good question man! Personally I’d probably cut both out, install the trunk floor and then cut into that for the mini tubs. Then you don’t have to try and fit the trunk floor to the tubs and can just cut it out until the tubs fit.
where can i get those black door sills on the bottom of the doors?
My car came with those, I’d check eBay or your local wrecking yard for an a spec model. They did look clean on there!
What RCA cable did you connect for the sub line out from the android unit?
Hey man, I used a coaxial cable and the one labeled “subwoofer” if you use the red/white rca cables you won’t be able to make changes to the woofer using the subwoof settings in the equalizer app. Here’s an example of the line you want to use: a.co/d/6ETVkAw
@@phantom.motorsports76 thanks for the info! I’ll order the cable. Do you remember if it was a teal/green cable on the stereo side? Mine isn’t labeled, but I assume it’s that one! Appreciate the reply!
Yes I believe it was teal/green! Can’t remember exactly but that sounds right. It’s basically a singular one that doesn’t have a matching equivalent. No problem, appreciate you watching 👊
@@phantom.motorsports76 darn, I tried it and it didn’t seem to work for me! :(
Hey sorry for not getting back to you sooner. You need to turn on the amplifier remote in the equalizer settings! Otherwise it won’t power the remote wiring going to your amplifier.
Did you apply primer before the seam sealer and then paint?
Hey there! My methodology is to spray epoxy to protect all the bare metal, seam seal to keep the water out and then apply black for the final aesthetic. I think this is the proper approach for rust prevention.
Thank you for sharing, that makes sense to me! @@phantom.motorsports76
only 25 likes??? Great job!!!
Appreciate you! Thanks for watching.
What is the sfi spec on that hanging light ? I need that lol
Haha a couple zip ties and the OG hardware got it done. Mint?
I'm pretty much good to go on my quarter panels, I just can't find how the quarter attaches behind the drip molding against the rear quarter windo
Hey man, that area has some very small spot welds I’d recommend drilling some small holes (with caution) or getting a spot welder from harbor freight and making a custom tip for it. I shaved my drip rails so I’m not worrying about that (for better or worse lol).
The safest way to drop a lower control arm is to use a threaded rod through the shock hole down to the bottom of the arm. This way it captures it keeps the spring always in control.its also a LOT easier going back together. Ps...get yourself a deadblow hammer for popping the balljoints.
I’ve done this strategy before and it’s good for disassembly but putting it back together is pretty terrible. Thankfully I won’t have to deal with it anymore with the coil overs! Appreciate you watching 🙂
$200 bucks? Where? I have a 2021 ILX, and Powerstop wants $$350, for the kit for my car? I’d love to know where you got your kit, for $200? Thanks
To be honest it’s been so long I’m not sure! It was a while ago though so price’s definitely may have gone up. If I remember correctly I just got them off Amazon.
You got the steering wheel volume working and external temp showing? Some youtube videos said volume controls via steering wheel dont work and external temp.
Hey there, yeah steering wheel controls work perfect. It has an application within the head unit that allows you to assign certain functions to each button press. I.E. when I press mode on the steering wheel it returns me to the home screen.
@@phantom.motorsports76 does the external temps still works by dash. Do you have the link where you purchased it. Thanks
Exterior temp doesn’t work any longer. Not really an issue for me personally, can’t have everything I guess lol. And yeah! I got the 4GB 64GB variation. Here’s the link: www.aliexpress.us/item/3256803663483294.html?spm=a2g0n.order_detail.order_detail_item.3.3416f19cpUFFmL&gatewayAdapt=glo2usa&_randl_shipto=US
yoo, did you need any extra screws or mounts to secure the door speakers after you cut the cage out or will they screw in the factory mounts?
Hey man, I drilled into the actual metal part of the door and secured it that way. Use an abundance of caution not to damage the speaker seal if you are drilling with it there.
Hey man did you have any static issues after installing ?
Hey man! No static issues whatsoever, the whole system works perfect. No complaints on my side.
I got a static sound. Still tryna figure out where it coming from.
Appreciate the effort for a DIYer. The only thing I would like to provide some insight on would be the direction of the rotors. It seems from the video that you installed those backward. One would think that since they are slotted, they would spin with the direction of those slots. But in actuality, they should spin in the opposite direction of those slots.
Great point! Definitely possible I switched them up.
love how far the builds come, its really clean, it just needs some low. i’ve got a cu2 tsx and absolutely love the cl7s too, you definitely did this car justice. btw nice choice on the song to bump love me some yelawolf
This is great, thanks for all the detail. I have an old corvair with a rather frail unibody I’m planning to beef up with subframe connectors, this helped me really visualize the win
Are you gonna do a 4 link ?
Hey man! I think I’m going to do offset shackles and leafs for this car. But a 4 link is in the works for my Camaro.
@@phantom.motorsports76 you going fuel cell then or you shorting your factory tank ?
Still up in the air on this but I’d say I’ll likely modify the stock tank. Gotta be super careful though playing around with them.
are you using a stock alternator?
Hey man! Yes I used a stock alternator with no issues.
Love to see the progress!👍
Thanks man! Appreciate you watching, long project but little by little it’s getting done 🤘
Damn wish I could chat a bit, have a 06 white pearl over black 45k also going to upgrade the pioneer speakers, Beautiful work from TACOMA 👍🏻
Feel free to reach out to me on my Instagram man! @bluebirdenterprises
When you were talking about the seam sealer in the back and said “you’d be working on it for the rest of your life…” 😂 so funny because it’s true. I just got done restoring a squarebody Chevy, and now onto a 70 nova. Thanks for the inspiration, your car is gonna be sick.
Haha yeah man you gotta draw the line somewhere! You want to make it nice but can’t do everything, thanks for watching 🤘
I'm going through the same dilemma with my Chevelle.
Do it right or do it twice. A lot of shotty work people do.
How did run the rcas and remote wire ?
If I remember correctly I ran it down the rocker sill. You have to take off the cover there but it’s usually pretty straightforward with the older Honda’s. And then zip tie it to the existing wire bundle and run it to all the way to where you need it in the trunk!
not a good video for a first timer. appreciate the effort though!
Thank you for the feedback!
Thanks bro
I just bought the same powerstop rotors for my 18' TLX but I got the Akebono Performance pads instead, cant wait to install my new brakes!
Sweet! Should work good for you, let me know how they worked out.
Love this project!
Sweet setup Im looking to do the same on my prelude do you by any chance remember what color wires go to each speaker (in the rear deck)? Mine also has that acoustic feedback and the previous owner cut the stock harness back there so there's just a bunch of wires sticking out. Thanks in advance
Hey man! You should be able to find all the information you need on the forums. If you look up 5th gen Prelude speaker polarity there’s usually some information. This seems helpful for bypassing the AFBS ⬇️
www.preludeonline.com/threads/5th-gen-rear-speaker-confusion.242560/
And then use this for the speaker polarity, multiple sources are always your friend so double checking against another is usually my approach ⬇️
www.modifiedlife.com/2001-honda-prelude-stereo-wiring-diagram/
How much does it cost for part and labor? Thanks
Hey man! Not sure on this one but I'd say it was probably around $1000-$1500 to paint the whole car. Labor was all me though so hard to quantify the cost there.
Thumbnail of the year right there!!😂
Nice work
Thank you 🤘
Did your buttons on the steering wheel still work
No buttons on this trucks steering wheel, just a pretty base 1500.
The wheel wells and quarters are so labor intensive.
Extremely! Difficult to make them perfect as well when there's so many aftermarket pieces you're putting on.
I love the Tsx builds
Thanks man! Coming along, few more items and it should be perfect 👍
Awesome project. You and I are doing the same thing in a different order. I am doing my 69 Nova DS tubs and subframe connectors done and starting on my Rhodes 12 pt cage next week. I will be watching your progress. I haven’t been posting anything on my channel. May start posting one day. Have fun. Great Job!
Pro tip! instead of using a rag to cool the weld, use compressed air, waay smoother. It blows out the flame and cools everything down :)
Good tip! I’ll do that on my nova build, coming up to a critical area and will do just that, thanks 👍
@@phantom.motorsports76 And to get a perfect piece to weld in place, cover the hole with wide masking tape and push on the edges of the hole and then mark the outline with a marker. Then remove the tape and cut along the line with a scissor, then stick the tape to the metal sheet and cut it along the outside of the tape. Then you have a perfect piece to weld in place
Another good piece of advice! Thanks man, I’ll keep that in my back pocket.
@@phantom.motorsports76 It makes the job way way easier :)
Nice job! 👍
Thank you!
Where did you buy your cage?
I got it off Jegs, it’s a Competition Engineering Cage.
Don't patch the round hole if you plan on using vintage air.
No vintage air in the race car! I’m good to go, thanks for the advice though 👍
nice man. thx for the vid
No problem 👍 thanks for watching!
👍🏽
What converter did you use? Did you not have to use a wiring interface to retain all of the factory features for it?
Hey Clay! This is the converter I used, the functionality is a little different than stock but it’s similar. Basically it only stays on when the key is on accessory mode versus stock where the stereo stayed on even with the key already off and only shut off when the door was opened. A non-issue in my opinion but something to keep in mind! Here’s the converter: RED WOLF Replacement for GM Chevy Silverado GMC 2002-2008 Model Aftermarket Stereo Radio Wiring Harness Connector Adapter a.co/d/a9deX6y
Hi what colour blue is that?
