Just watched this 09/01/2022 and thank you so much for the upload . Sadly the Hammonds soprano cornet player Steve Fielden passed away just a week or so ago but I remember him playing live , and watching in awe . I don't suppose you have the later round of the contest where Steve played Stranger On The Shore ? I would love to hear that again if possible . Thanks , Mark .
Incredible to think there was a time when the bbc broadcast a brass band contest on national BBC2 I didn't enjoy Ever Ready's programme - too old fashioned even for the 1980s (?) . RIP Alex Melville Whitburn's wonderful solo cornet.
A VERY young Brian Grant! And how on earth did Keith Wilkinson ever find the time to hold down the directorship of a top flight band with his teaching commitments at Nottingham?
@@ianhaigh4972 I would love to see the Hammonds performance with the late Steve Fielden on soprano cornet playing ' Stranger On The Shore ' . Still remember it now !
Peter Skellern is amazing.
Spud! Brilliant musician :)
Both of these bands have a terrific sound.

Brian is my Dad! So great to see these videos!
what year is this recording?
Judging by the reference to "the BBC musicians strike" I suppose 1980?!?
Ian... many thanks for sharing these gems from the past. 1979 this one, and I watched them all those years ago.
Brian Tait fantastic player.
Good to see Leslie Smail play in the flesh. Seemed a bit nervous.
You say ' a bit nervous ' , I say slightly harsh .
Ian i have some more of these if you want them. vs Cambridge & Hammonds - contact me via Linkedin if interested ( your solo is on there !!)
Hi James, great to hear from you. I’d love to see those but I’m not on LinkedIn. Any other way to get in touch? Facebook?

Sorry , I should have asked James ! Slightly confused whom to reply to .
Wellington March is played so well. Surprised Ever Ready lost.
So were we ! Still sticks in the throat 40+ years later.........:-)
Misty is memorable, a highlight.
Ian is this 1981?
Yes 1981. Lovely to see my late Dad and me and many old friends from Aldbourne.
Thanks for the post Ian!
great stuff Ian, vintage Ever Ready at its best, still think the judges were wrong but history rememberers different.
Agree with you.
Brian at his best...WONDERFUL
