Ray Sly's Search for Fullerton's Missing Local Landmark Plaques
Back in summer 2024, I received a phone call from Fullerton Heritage Board Member Ray Sly. I had met Ray back in May 2024 on one of the Fullerton Heritage walking tours. He had a suggestion about a story regarding local landmarks, so I followed up with him in late July 2024. After learning about a pedestal with a missing plaque in Chapman Park at a Fullerton Heritage Board meeting, Ray volunteered to research the remaining plaques. His search led him to a local business that restores and modifies cars, which currently operates out of a historic building that was once a laundry.

Victorian Artifacts of Death and Mourning Displayed at Muzeo Museum & Cultural Center
มุมมอง 61หลายเดือนก่อน
A wicker casket sits in a darkened room resembling a Victorian funeral parlor. Balanced on casket stands and surrounded by floral displays in a corner of the Anaheim museum’s main gallery, this coffin was designed not for burial but for display of the deceased during a home wake, according to Aimee Aul, Education Specialist at Muzeo. It’s just one of many fascinating examples of Victorian mourn...

Eva Rodriguez, a first-year student at Cal State Fullerton majoring in psychology, was stopped by a woman while walking with friends around Uptown Whittier, the City’s historic tree-lined district, which gives the town its unique identity and sense of character. It was late March 2024, and Rodriguez and her friends had just finished participating in a rally. They explained to the woman that the...

David "Mr. Bucketlist" Jerome Writes Book on Baseball Spring Training History in Fullerton
มุมมอง 628 หลายเดือนก่อน
Fullerton’s history is intertwined with baseball’s past. As a lifelong Fullerton resident and baseball fan, local author David Jerome decided to combine his passion for the sport and the city’s history into book form, writing about nearly thirty years of Pacific Coast League (PCL) teams who trained on the Amerige Park baseball field in “Spring Training in Fullerton: 1935 - 1963.” I recently had...
Looking Back at Fullerton’s Silent Film Star Sharon Lynn
มุมมอง 859 หลายเดือนก่อน
When I visited the Fullerton Public Library’s website, I read an entry on their “Fullerton’s Female Trailblazers” page about a silent film actress named Sharon Lynn, who was known as La Verne Lindsay when she graduated from Fullerton High School in 1920. In 2016, she was inducted into the FUHS Wall of Fame. But what I found fascinating was that Sharon Lynn would go on to star in the first “perf...

Lucy Van Der Hoff Trail Needs Maintenance

After recent rains, I decided to take a hike on one of the shortest trails in the City of Fullerton. Running along the border of Fullerton and La Habra, the Lucy Van Der Hoff trail is approximately 0.88 miles long and branches off from the more popular Juanita Cooke trail into nearby suburbs. It’s maintained by the Fullerton Parks and Recreation Department and is listed on the city’s website as...

Restaurants sure do come and go pretty often.
Theres a history museum in old town Tustin on Main I believe, I walked in there and they were using MY youtube videos to show the local mines and Blackstar canyon. :-) I said, hey, thats me. The guy said they use my videos to show places they talk of in the museum. I must admit, made me laugh inside a bit but glad people enjoy them. I really enjoy your . Thank you.
I would like to meet you some day. I live local and I am sure you have some things I do not know and vice versa. Perhaps over a bowl of soup and a sandwich at Rutabagorz in Fullerton. You did a video at a Gothic church at the end of the block years back. Alan
Stay safe
The Diddler is down there 🐒
He was a klansman as well and meetings were held here.
Nobody ever talks about his amp design.
If anyone would like a bird in their yard or suggest a spot. Let me know. Glen

Oh gee... ducks... love them, but when we swam at the La Mirada outdoor lap pool last summer, there was a duck family in th pool with us. The water smelled like fish and I had severe eye infection the next few days from the bacteria in the water. Literally, pus was coming out of my tear ducts. Had to use prescription eye drops. No way I'll swim in a pool with ducks again, ever!!!
💎
Every time I would drive by that church/preschool I would admire those beautiful sculptures and wonder who made them. Now I know! They are so creative and amazing I would absolutely LOVE to have one in my yard. What a kind, gentle, creative spirit he has ❤
Thank you for your kindness.

Must be something in the water. I grew up in East Fullerton and the urban legend was that Ray Bradbury owned and lived for awhile in an old Victorian House that was built for an Orange Farmer Tycoon. Then there's Philip K. Dick - another Placentia guy...
Tha k you for sharing thusnrich history. The text ran through a bit to quick, aside from that it was a great video.
The seniors students as a joke would make cows walk up the stairs to the top of the building since the path was so narrow the cows weren't able to turn back and had no choice but to fall to there death this happened somtime in 1940s from i was told when i went to the school there. The cows were from the agriculture class down the street, poor cows there spirits still wondering those narrow paths!
I know I'm like 4 years late but i live in that area with the trail and I started going over there since summer of 2023 and since that day I've invited my friends to come with me to that trail and we have been exploring new parts of it everyday so I've genuinely enjoyed my experience with this trail! 😄👍
You could feel the mexicaness ❤❤❤❤ icoove it
Most excellent research! By the late 1960s California's state tourist promotional folks had realized the historic value of this symbolic bell and funded placed them along the supposed route of El Camino Real, often depending more on commercial significance than historic accuracy.
Love it! Thank you, Mark!
I am not a collecter, however, I have cards from 1908 to 1957. The early ones were given to me. My pride and joy are my Topps 1956 cards. Many of them I have had since 1956. A whole bunch I won’t flipping and playing matches. I few I bought. None of them are mint. None are disintegrating either. People were telling me that they are still worth a modest five figures. As I am now in my 70’s I thought I would sell them. I went to several “dealers” who over the phone and with pictures I texted to them, told me that they were eager to view them and pay a fair price. Bullshit. When I brought them to two shops, they insulted me with their offers. One told me that the 56 Topps cards are overrated. He offered 500.00 for 302 cards. I looked him in the eye and told him to due something anatomically impossible, and left. The second dealer complained that business was slow. He offered a thousand dollars. I put the cards back and just walked out. As I was leaving he called out,” I can do 1500.00.” I did not respond. Now I’m a realist. Many of my cards are in good condition, many are fair, none are in poor condition. They would have made a fine profit from the cards. So what I am going to do is leave them to an honest charitable organization. I would rather get nothing for them than be taken for a chump. Sports collectable businesses are for the most part unethical.
This is poor video making. What's sad is that this is a very historical site and filmed as if it was a day at the post office! Too fast and not a lot of the other things there being filmed in their entirety. That woman narrating the tour sounds almost as if she's afraid to talk. I wish someone else would've filmed this instead. A lot of it is missing better information - too incomplete.
*promosm* 😔
I worked happily in Beckman México for 9 years and had marvelous bosses like Margaret Watson, Luis E. Gamas and José Camacho. I appreciate their help and tolerance wherever they are. Lazcano
I had a girlfriend who lived in that area back in 1981 and she owned a horse. We would ride all those trails all the time. Man, this brings back memories
She belonged to the Fullerton recreational riders club in the 1960"s or 70"s.
Thank you!
Great video. The piano needs to be toned down.
i loved going here. such a shame it closed
So much of early California worked so well because the old Spanish/Mexican traditions and nobility blended with a certain "Yankee energy" and this combination was more powerful than the separate cultures. A nice blend, if you will...
This is just GREAT! I am now a docent at this house! I learned a LOT by watching this video! I will put it on the Facebook page so everyone can see it!
Wonderful and informative video! I have known the person who worked on getting the zone approval for over 20 years and she is a treasure! She is very civic minded and has dedicated many hours to this project and others. Congratulations!
Angelo's and Vinci s AND THE FOX THEATRE ARE A CORNER STONE LANDMARK OF DOWNTOWN FULLERTON!! WE SHOULD DO EVERYTHING THAT WE POSSIBLY CAN TO PRESERVE THIS HISTORICAL PROPERTY FOR THE FUTURE GENERATIONS TO APPRECIATE AND EXPERIENCE!!! WE NEED TO COME TOGETHER AS A COMMUNITY TO SAVE THE VIBE THAT ANGELO'S AND VINCI'S BLESSED US ALL WITH!!! I WAS SO BUMMED OUT TO SEE THAT IT HAS CLOSED!?!? I JUST MOVED BACK FROM INGLEWOOD TO OC AND WAS SHOCKED TO SEE ANGELOS AND VINCI'S CLOSED!!!! THEY SHOULD DEVELOP HIGHRISE RESIDENTIAL BEHIND THE FOX AND ANGELOS AND RESTORE THE THEATER AND RESTAURANT! THOSE TWO BUILDINGS,THE CHAPMAN BANK BUILDING, WILLIAMS COMPANY BUILDING, THE OLD MASONIC LODGE, AND VILLA DEP SOL, AMONG A FEW OTHERS ARE BUILDINGS THAT ARE LANDMARKS AND SHOULD NOT EVER BE REMOVED FROM THE HEART OF THE CITY! What did she do with all the decor? If there will be an auction I'd love to know. Thanks Emerson.
Auctions were held in mid-November and customers are now in the process of picking up the items they won.
