Many years ago when I was a member, I was contacted by a managing member of AIA DC to see if I would conduct a tour of one of my award winning projects for a group of local architects and architecture students. I gladly accepted because I had done the design , documentation and construction administration of the project and was well suited to talk about the macro process and the micro details. I thought it would be a great opportunity and experience for every interested person. I waited to hear back from that person but That never happened. It’s not unusual to see high level people in firms claim credit for the work of others in our field. It happens all the time. Because , in my opinion, most of these people in charge can’t design. And If you can’t design, you just take all the credit for it knowing that no one can object. Some of the same people then become committee members. With the power to influence. Politics plays a large role. Use of big words like “social Justice”, “equality” and “fairness “ have become fashionable but without any substance. Since that experience, I never joint any AIA chapter ever again.
