Sounds like a common ground problem. Probably in the trailer Junction box where it hits your trailer. Try a new set of cables first, from truck to trailer. If you don't have a set or cant' afford to do so, open each end to see if there is any corrosion in either male end. Lots of time water gets in the ends and messes up your connections. If nothing on the cable, try each female end, tractor and trailer. Shake it out, hit it with some starting fluid to vaporize the water. Use a good electrical cleaner in a aerosol can.

It shows you a work around from the EGR system. Once you shut down the EGR Valve, you need to make a few other modifications. Some computer programming is necessary. Your motor will run cooler and use less fuel to the get the same horsepower.

See if that's what you're looking for. It's pretty simple when you get back in there, a flap/door that diverts the heat/AC. There is a control arm that is run by an actuator/solenoid. See if there is power going to it with your multi meter. Turn the cold to heat rheostat/swith and see if you get a reading at the female ;plug in to the actuator.

Truck ran fine, Had to get some computer programming on it to keep the check engine light off. It runs cooler and uses less fuel. More power. Sorry about the delay, didn't see you question here.

I can't remember what prompted me to look at the Interrupt switch. It was not unique to the Freightliner. Most trucks run the Interrupt. You can run jumper wires to see if it's a defect in the switch. Mine was just contacts.

@@charlieabbot3649 hey i decided to switch the interrupt switch out for a mew one since it only costs 10$. My symptoms on dash lights were this since yesterday, 1. Dash lights shut off when i hit a big bumo on the road, i figured it was a bad ground somewhere because my truck has alot of lights but i couldnt find any lose grounds 2. Later today in the daytime i decided to mess with it amd the symptoms chNged, it wemt to dash lights going out whenever i turned on the lights bit came back on when i put the high beams on and when i just had the parking lights on. I dwcided to follow your advice and switch it out, at first i thought it didnt work because the dash lights turned off again after installing the new switch but then about an hour later they automatically turned back on while i was driving and stayed on for the rest of the trip. For now it fixed the problem but it might come back (hopefully not) as my dash lights stayed on for a while then turned off later earlier in the day, ill update later. Thanks alot man.

@@Montoya1991 Do you have additional fog lamps or lights in the front? That switch may have something going on. Also, your high low beam turn signal switch can cause goofy crap with your lights.

@@charlieabbot3649 the dash has the fog light switch but the bumper is aftermarket without fog lamps and added 13 amber lights on bumper. And yes i was thinking about changing the turn signal handle if the interrupt switch didnt fix my issue but so far my dash has stayed on. I wont be changing the handle unless the dash goes out again. 99 classic xl is the truck btw

@@Montoya1991 XL Classic, nice ride. Did you add the 13 lights? I would think that would be where the problem is. Where is the switch located? Is it tied in to the Interrupt? See if they share a common negative or positive. The + has to come from somewhere. Good luck

Thanks. Any of the 14l Detroits can be done like this. It's expensive to redo all associated pipes, tubes, gaskets and parts, but it will save you a day of down time if you break down later.

It will do that when it calls for egr mode when it try’s to open than when it closes the light will go out. Depending on barometric pressure that’s what tells it to open an close.

My truck sounds like it’s losing boost like a blown charge pipe but we’ve checked everything. Will the egr valve do that if it’s stuck open? I’m going to weld mine this weekend. My truck is a dog!

No, not even with the Check Engiine light on.

Sorry about the delay, didn't see your answer. Yes, it's the same solenoid. On the DDEC 5 it's an electric valve rather than electric over air. You'll need to tweak your computer to keep it from thinking something is wrong. More power, less fuel.

I did a Delete on a 2005 years ago. Swapping the exhaust manifold for a 12.7, the VNT Turbo for the fixed vane, taking off the EGR valve and cooler and having the ECM tuned. It ran me $4800 in parts. So, yeah, $6,000 if you're paying someone is right on target. You can also leave everything in place, set the VNT actuator to max and adjust the vanes until you get it right. It's cheaper in parts, but you'll burn a day getting the settings on the VNT correct.

@@charlieabbot3649 i had a 2013 T800 that i had all the b.s on def dpf egr. Deleted it all for 3500. What your talking about is a basic egr delete but also a turbo swap. I now have a 2006 western star 4900ex with a 14L detroit. And am just waiting for the EGR to take a dump then swapping from a actuator turbo thats on there to a 171702 turbo with a 12.7 manifold. And obviously the ecm tune and thats the only reason its 4 thousand around me. If it was simply the EGR would be 1500 flat.

@@charlieabbot3649 if its throw chk light than you not gonna be able to see any other problems coming,, also question-- if you disconnect egr solenoid? would it be the same? solenoid opens egr valve correct?
