Very interesting discussion Amanda and Ivanka. Another sinister aspect of fitspo (to me) seems to be the conflation of exercise and health with hyper sexualised imagery.

14:00 Girls feel they are not equal to boys because they are CONSTANTLY told they are oppressed victims. If the Government spent, literally, billions of dollars on a terror campaign telling boys they were oppressed they'd feel the same way. I'm now very worried that they boys Tessa teaches are NOT getting the same level of compassion as the girls. Particularly those who are victims of female sexual violence. 22:00 Do you talk about typical girl porn (50 shades of grey, Cleo, etc) of just heterosexual boy porn? An ex-girlfriend woke me up to something I'd never noticed. She said there was almost no heterosexual porn that showed the male face or that he was enjoying it. It entirely focused on the female experience - her expression, her response. And she was sick of going to gay sites to see men's faces. I'd never noticed. 24:00 Condom use - one of they way's I've found to get boys to insist on condoms, is to explain how few rights they have after conception, and just how vulnerable they are legally, emotionally, financially. While girls have a multitude of options, boys have no rights at all. "Are you willing to give this girl 100% control over the next 18 years of your life and also the life of your child?" 25:00 Many boys don't reach out to help lines or sites because the sites explicitly state that they are there for girls. A boy who has been abused by a girl and goes to a site that says explicitly "Our mission is to protect women and girls from men's violence" is not going to make contact. 26:00 "Consent" - the students roll their eyes and disengage. They've heard it: "boy bad, girl victim". I've had fantastic success with showing two clips of w girl as the abuser and the boy as the victim. The students engage like nobodies business. The boys sit forward and start talking, the girls provide examples of what they've seen other girls do. It's like "The Hunting" - Objectively "Dip" kisses Nassim without his consent, touches his genitals while he is saying "no, don't", sends him an unsolicited nude pic, takes him to court, and finally tries to murder him in a pool. But SHE's portrayed as the victim and he the villain. In all too many sex education sessions (looking at you KS:CPC) there is the obligatory sentence at the beginning along the lines of: "While it is possible for a boy to be a victim, the authors believe that it happens less often and isn't as important." And that happened in "The Hunting" too. The show starts out with a group of girls showing a boys nude pic around the class and laughing at him, eventually driving him out of the class in trauma. But it's played for laughs and never touched on again. For the rest of the episodes only girls pain is treated as important. 31:00 Love the positive, natural slant. Are you also providing safety advice specific to the boys needs? The KS:CPC was written by an all-female authorship panel. Maybe there needs to be some diversity of experience. 37:00 Inspired by openly boy-hating Clementine Ford. The woman who has tweeted about wanting to kill men and boys? Just wow!
