As far as I am concerned, as long as I do not have standing water, or muddy castings in a plastic bin, it is all good. The worms really thrive in a moist environment. Been starting new bins with soaked shredded leaves, the worms are loving all that moisture and doing great. Stay Well!!!!

Completely agree, moisture is critical for a productive worm bin. In the process of setting up my winter bins in the basement. I primarily use shredded leaves as bedding, so I have a 27 gal tote in which I soak the leaves in rain water, then strain the leaves and put in a large grow bag with some bubble wrap to hold in the moisture. I inoculate the wet leaves with the material I get from screening the castings from the bins I am harvesting. Another thing I am starting to do with the inoculated leaves is mixing in some worm chow, that way when I start a new bin there is already food available for the worms. The new bedding is pretty wet, and the worms are loving it. The nice thing about using grow bags as bins is you never get pooling water like you can in a plastic bin. I do use dry leaves under a heavy wet feeding. Stay Well!!!! .

@@brianseybert192 thanks for sharing. Leaves do make excellent looking castings. I was mixing up my "swamp water" which is in a garbage bin filled with greens, manure, browns and water, after mixing the top floating mass, I saw a big red worm! Over to the compost pile it went.
