i have the same found in thrift 20£ one of my speakers are crackling though any ideas on how to fix?
Yeah there about $400
What frequency did you cut it at? And if so, what capacitor did you use? Or did you connect it directly? Excellent sound.
How do they perform without sub ?
Thank you for this video. Did you play with subwoofer on? I haven't quite understood that part. Curious to know how do they sound without sub. Thank you.
Are you available for hire? I have a pair of ex d1

@ how much would it be for cabinets to be made for my pair?
@ I sell my small full range speakers for $300 cash pickup. Extra to mail. Based on rescue timber I pick up or from my woodwork club. I can deduct the driver cost of $30 if you supply. The ones in this video are an old design. Newer designs called Bloodhounds in my later videos. There are all based on Cheap Trick back loaded horn.
@ how are you reached outside of eBay?
This sounds like somebody sitting in a big plywood box singing. Maybe could use some damping. When you moved to the other speaker it sounded much better to me.
@@davidzoller9617 thx David. I noticed that too in the recording more than in the room but I thought the same. I'll put more damping in the woofer section. Cheers.
show us the in room / outdoor REW sweeps- polar charts and all that sciencey stuff
@@williamtomkiel8215 yes I have measurements for the Visaton as a pair of stereo speakers. The graphs are on my laptop. Theyre excellent. I haven't tested this unit yet other than with my flappers.☮️🇦🇺
Beautiful wood work! Sounds great 👍 Thanks for sharing. 😊
This is psychotic in a positive way. I’m assuming you’re using the visaton Fr 10 8 ohm version? What did you use for the sub?
@@DonnyDonnMendoza yes 8 ohm great little speaker. The sub driver is a 5" mid woofer out of a Jenson centre speaker which had 4 of these. You know if you only feed a speaker 150 hz and below with a few watts, it's amazing the bass you can get from a small driver. Logitech Sonos and Bose know this.
Good morning 🌅, Down under, the look nicely made, and sound good too, I made my own transmission line loudspeaker cabinets about 40 years ago, and just recently put a new set of drivers in made by SEAS 150w NAD , English dude living in France,
@@Hog-g2z I haven't used Seas but would love to try them.🌈☮️
The enclosure reminds me of the Pearl Sibelius. Very cool.

with small drivers with output limits placing any vent be it reflex or back loaded horn mouth, placing it on the rear side of the cabinet will maximize the effect of boundary reinforcement for the deepest tones offering the greatest gain unless you intend to wall mount.
@@morayjames92 thx. Is there any data? I like the sound with front ports. My view is sound coming from rear ports are reflections from walls therefore not time aligned to the sound from the cone resulting in muddy sound.
@@diyfullrangehifispeakers I am not sure exactly what data you are asking for. So far as vent placement goes the closer to a boundary such as a tall or a corner (two walls) will increase the output of the vent. The closer to the boundary the less losses and so the greater signal there is to reflect back out into the room. Because the vent is firing away from you this builds in a time delay long enough so that by the time that reflection makes it to your ears your brain can identify it as reflection and not a direct signal. When you place a vent next to a driver the time delay of the reflected/delayed sound (from the cabinet) on the front of a cabinet there is much less time delay involved to your ears compared to a vent on the back side of the cabinet and your brain can have a harder time telling direct output from the driver and output from the vent which is only a little less delayed in time. If the only frequencies which emanating from the vent were frequencies below 100 Hz. then it would have little to no impact being on the front of the cabinet. There is the advantage of boundary reinforcement and unless you are building a cabinet intended to be placed on a bookshelf or a wall then rear vent placement would be desirable to maximize boundary reinforcement. I Hope this makes sense. By the way the red hard wood you use is truly beautiful.
Just a suggestion that mot having the curved reflectors at the bends enables more of the high frequencies to exit the mouth of the horn which is something you don't want to have happen as it confuses the image creating multiple sources. Placing the mouth of the horn on the back side of the cabinet will assist in you hearing less high frequencies exiting the mouth or at least delay them long enough for your brain to recognize them as reflections which is a better compromise. Nice job thanks for posting, going to look for your next post now.
Great stuff my Hi Fi journey started in Waverton in 1976 with Kef Calinda speakers , every one else had a nice car and I had great sound !
good sound and great woodwork. Tell me the dimensions of the cabinet. Bought a couple of these speakers. can't wait to build boxes for them.

In the 70s I ran a HiFi shop in the UK. We had the (then) complete range of KEF speakers. An interesting thing was that in 4 years we only sold 2 pairs of Concerto. Other models like the Cadenza, Choral and later the 104 sold very well indeed. Personally, I never liked the Concerto, I found it muffled and lacking in detail, compared with the other models in the range. Your version, looked like a very early one. I just wondered, if you could have had a comparative dem of all the KEFs would your decision be the same?
@@MichaelBeeny haha well never know.
Kef Concerto was produced before the 105 etc.
Very nice ! 🤔
@@decem_unosquattro9538 thank you🇦🇺☮️
@@diyfullrangehifispeakers 🇦🇺👍🏻
Long time no see , I have not seen that model of KEF , of course I live in the u.s. , what years was they manufactured ?
I first heard these at a house party in c. 1973 when I was about 14 years old. It was one of those life memories. I was blown away. These are c. 40-50 years old. I'm sure you can find dates on the interweb.🇦🇺☮️
@@diyfullrangehifispeakers nice , I was hatched in 69 on the month of December and the day of the tenth. I will look these up . I have had several pairs of the early to mid 80 .
All most beautiful!
Thank you🇦🇺☮️
Would you buy them with 5 way binding posts? I can easily make new rear panels.
Dropped the ball by not putting 5 way binding posts in them
What's most sweet Tube-sounding chip in your opinion? And, generally, by slightly overpowering chip amps, what's the sound signature result?
I don't have any experience with tubes yet except for childhood experiences with tube gear back in the 60's. I'm very happy with Solid State and digital. If I want nostalgia play Frank Sinatra. I do like Slow Blues like Ronnie Earls. Favourite amp chips so far TDA7498E and TPA3116D2.
Sounds good!
Динамиков настругал, как дурак махорки) на любой случай жизни)
А можно же сделать ещё меньший динамик, и ещё более огроный ящик?) ну, чтобы смотрелось максимально нелепо и смешно?
Sweet build! I just finished FHL’s and am starting FHxl’s with Mark Audio Mh-110’s. I can’t believe how good these sound!
I see that the port of your speaker is smaller than the end of the pipe. This causes the wave to compress as it reaches the end of the box, which sends an interfering wave back up the pipe. A true Voigt pipe expands continuously to the end. You might consider opening the port completely.
Hmm ok I'll try it☮️🇦🇺
Кстати да, очень верное замечание! Кажется, что вы высказали то, что меня всегда смущало - вот эта закруглённая квадратная дырка с чёрными углами, от тупой фрезы)
@@imiafamily thank you for your comment☮️🇦🇺
@@diyfullrangehifispeakers подскажу ещё одну русскую идею - сделайте дополнительный рупор, расширение, на выходе из корпуса колонки
Is this truly a Voigt pipe? It looks to me like a horn. Also, the port is smaller than the end of the horn, so the wave is compressed as it exits the box, which sends an interfering wave in the opposite direction. My first suggestion (because it is easy to do) would be to open up the port.
You could be on the money there. I'll try that. Unfortunately the measurement mic was on loan and I was asked to return it, so cannot do more measurements for the moment. BTW I believe a Voigt Pipe is a type of horn.☮️🇦🇺
Greetings Peter, once again congratulations on a well-made enclosure for these excellent drivers. Have you perhaps come across their technical characteristics somewhere? I got a couple and I want to do a sealed box type as part of a 2.1 system, where they would be relieved of the deepest spectrum. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance and keep up the good work.
No I havent seen their TS parameters. They would be fine in a 2-3 litre sealed box with a Subwoofer.
👍♥️🫂
This is about as exciting as watching wax melt. ☺️
Soothing , it reminded me of a lassies from a that liked hot wax dribbled on there nopples😂
It really is!☮️🇦🇺
I wish i could miter that well! They look great. I use bees wax everyday to build pool tables. Its a versatile material.
I'd agree the Alsyvox/Aries Cerat room was one of the best sounding rooms, alongside Nirvana's room. Though i'm surprised Hi End Audio's room featuring the Audio Solutions Figaro M2 speakers and Soulnote A-3 integrated didn't make your list. I rated that room higher than some of the other rooms you featured.
What type?
FR8 Visaton. The cabinet is based in a Cheap Trick back loaded horn.
Visaton FR8. Cheap Trick inspired cabinet 3 litres.
@@diyfullrangehifispeakers Ok.. Thanks..
Oh yeah this one is the SB. I cant remember the model. Sorry.
I got mine for $20 at a thrift store also! Sounds really good definitely a score!
Sold and off to WA.🇦🇺☮️
It makes no sense. With such size it’s better to use headphones. Otherwise just put these drivers into a proper, supposed case: a soundbar.
Check out the Pearl Audio Sibelius.
I thought the Duntech room was going to have Sovereign's? I saw they were advertised. That's false advertising.
Hmmm maybe next year. The princesses sounded great though.☮️🇦🇺
The Audio GD are GanFet class D amps.
Thx. Good to know. They sound good.🇦🇺☮️
Holy crap all those macs are complete overkill haha
The Alsyvox/Aries Cerat room was the stand out. Crazy good
Yeah I agree. So natural sounding.🇦🇺☮️
And crazy expensive. The Tintoretto's are $135kAUD. For that money you could buy a pair of Audio Solutions Virtuoso L's and still have $50k change left over for a better amp(s) or front end source.
Alsyvox are not electrostatic speakers, they are ribbon speakers. Similar but not as hard to drive.
Good to know.
Technically they're planar magnetic/ribbon speakers.
Thanks.🇦🇺☮️
I love the Duntech speakers.
