I don't know why everyone thinks this is some great romance. It's just a summer fling for a 17-year-old. God, when I was 17, I thought I was constantly in love. This happens, and then you get over it and move on to someone who is more real.

@@JohnSmith-tl8pq Your answer is totally incomprehensible to me: early on, you say, you were aware that your falling in love was just a summer fling (i.e. you were aware of yourself) and by 21-22 you "got over it"? I.e. you know longer knew yourself? I guess you mean instead is that what you got over, was falling too easily in love. My first answer to you was to suggest that, while you lampoon people who love the film for mixing up a great romance and a summer fling, it is not the spectator but the character of the film who mixes up a great romance and a summer fling. That's what all adolescents do in general, and that's one of the ways in which the film is so moving: in portraying that moment in growing up.
