Saline Valley Chicken Strip camping 3/18/22
มุมมอง 3652 ปีที่แล้ว
3rd trip to the Saline Valley hot springs by airplane. One of the best trips so far with great March temperatures and relatively few people.. Departure from the valley was a bit more challenging this time due to strong up/down drafts. The trick is to find a point in the valley were you can catch a strong uplift - this time we found 1.5K/minute lift on the South east end. We will return to this ...

Timmelsjoch Pass
มุมมอง 3378 ปีที่แล้ว
Day 4 of an epic ride through Germany, Italy and Austria. The Timmelsjoch (Paso del Rombo) is one of my favorites because the roads are so varied over the total run between the Passier Valley in Italy and the Otztal valley in Austria. The summit is over 8K feet. There's a new motorcycle museum on the Austrian side as a bonus. The R1200GS I was on was rented from Sixt in Munich - super convenien...

Saline Valley (Chicken Strip) Landing in Cardinal RG II
มุมมอง 1.4K8 ปีที่แล้ว
First time into the chicken strip at the Saline Valley - Death Valley National Park, CA. Tricky approach as the runway and surrounding terrain rise as you are descending for a landing. Very satisfying to do a nice landing at this place - another one off the bucket list!

Just the other day Judy’s asking, does Wes have a new video out. Well thanks for not making me tell her no. Another epic adventure doing some serious miles.
Thanks John, it was epic. Glad I met your timing..:)
Hreat music and drone footage!
Very nice!
Good to see someone’s managing to get out there and enjoy the great outdoors. John & Judy
Bucket list, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, check.
Still having fun carving up the road I see. That restoration you did on the Yamaha looks amazing, better than new. John & Judy
Thanks you guys. John, hoping to get some time for a Thursday ride again with you. 🏍️
Hi Wes, good to see you out enjoying the countryside. Nice canyon carving and drone work. John and Judy
There are so many people at these springs anymore that it's essentially a trailer park with a hot tub. No thanks. I'd rather camp off the grid in a different part of the valley these days.
No shortage of butthurt cry babies in the comments. But alas, this is the hippie crowd that frequents the hot-springs.
Thanks for the video...way cool landing.
Thanks, it’s always fun to shoot a chicken strip landing.
The camping areas are very clean & orderly compared to earlier visits. Many changes, but that's life. I got a kick out of the old outhouse graffiti. A room with a view. Thanks for sharing.
This is airspace is a Military Operations Area. Fighter jets routinely rip through here well below 400’ AGL. What you did was not only very illegal, but also put lives at risk.
Oh boy…wait until this clown learns there is an airstrip there. OMG
Nice to hear genuine horsepower instead of headseat bullshit.
I have a Cardinal RG and was wondering if I could land it there. Finding your video was a big help. I will give it a try.
Frickin' awesome.
Where can I find info on current conditions of this airstrip please?
Sorry for the late reply. You can basically Google the Chicken Strip and find out quite a bit. Here's a current link with good news about the landing strip. www.nps.gov/deva/learn/news/saline-valley-s-chicken-strip-airfield-authorized.htm
Great resolution on the video. Wonder what causes the image to distort......
Vibration from the engine.
Morgan Bleak 1 second ago Well, very nice. My brother and I owned this plane in the early 1990 until we built and flew a lancair iv. Nice job, a great airplane. Glad it is still in good hands and flying!!!
I was kinda hoping you'd fly farther up passing the top springs..
Can you get there by driving through cerro gordo rd?
Thank god, there is no music.
How do you get to those hot springs from Las Vegas, NV???
Take I95 out of Vegas to CA 190 to Panamint. You can use Google maps with a starting point of Vegas and a destination of "Chicken Strip CA". Looks like 6.5 hours via car. Good luck!
Thank you very much wbrewski!
I helped build the rock yin yang, with a couple of folks coming up about 3 years ago. love this place, had a great experience.
Great view, really beautiful. Thanks
Cool video!

Impressive perspective, very clear video quality and great to see how steep or flat the ascents are on the ridge line. Drones really expand the pleasure of watching others ride.
Dude, give it a rest!
I blatantly admit that flying a drone is fun
Are you aware that it is illegal to fly drones in a national park? Just curious. Nice footage but still illegal.
Yes
So you blatantly admit you have broken a law?
Illegal because they are loud, they annoy people, and they invade their privacy. But he clearly doesn't care about that. Not to mention military jets flying low overhead.
Wow give it a rest man.. this place holds a place in my heart♡.. bitch and wind elsewhere , seems like they already band the drums and that's bad enough☆
ohhh stfu...I saw you comment on another video and you were also acting as if you were the police there. Please stay away from people who are enjoying themselves. You can't even hear the drones when they are flying that high. Ya nerd.
WTF IS THAT YING YANG CROP CIRCLE 🤤🤤🤤😲
it's been a little over 20 years since I visited, couple mouths camping💖
Awesome! Cant wait to get back there :)
That looks awesome! Good Job! I could suggest cutting the first 50 seconds or so while you're setting up the shot and adding more music after the first part ends. Hoping to come here next weekend. Will definitely bring my drone!
Dude, that is some bad ass footage. I can't believe the quality and how steady it is. Great job. Now if you could figure out a way to follow some bikes through trail 20 and 15 please tag me so I can see them! 👍 be safe!
For sure - thanks for the nice commentary.
Very zippy with only one occupant!
Yes it is. 142kts straight and level. Have had it to 18K ft to clear clouds over the Sierras also.
Beautiful aircraft.
Hi, I am looking at a 1975 177 RG for sale. I have always flown Pipers, how does the parking brake work and lock, does it pull in/out, what locks it on. Does the 177 RG have an engine alternate air source. Did not see these things in the Flight Manual.
Apply the foot brakes with toes and the hand brake pulls out and locks the brakes in the on position. Not sure about an alternate air source? Sorry.
Yes, it has alternate static source if that's what you mean.
I was asking about this, Pipers have a lever for the engine alt air source in the event say the air filter clogs-up, the answer seems to be the 177 RG induction air system has an automatic door that opens if there are air source problems...
Very impressive video quality. Makes me want to buy a DJI drone. (and ride up Crackerbox)
That's the name of trail 26. Really long and fun hillclimb that goes from Little Stony to the top of the ridge.
Way too close to an active airport. :)
"Active" is certainly a relative term!
Jeff Cable I remember jets flying by taking photos
@@wbrewski Very active with military jets flying very low overhead. I was just there for 3 days and I saw several.
Good job. I couldn't tell from the runway was until the last 20 seconds
Nice landing. :)
Nice edit Josh!!!!
There's a really good still moment at 3:05 with the mansion and the reservoir in the distance.
