T7 Suspension101 Gobbler Review
A more in depth review of the Suspension101 Gobbler suspension for the Tenere 700. I give my run down of the Suspension101 Pro build with Gobblers for the T7. It is THE best setup for the bike without going to a full KYB fork\shock swap. Even then, its still debatable.

Hot Lap - Sturgeon Bay 6-5-24

My fast lap from the past weekends race. Lap 8 ~1 hour in. I run RaceChrono on a phone to log GPS\OBD2 data from my bike. It's pretty neat to review and compare lap times\braking zones\speeds\etc. This is really useful when I'm riding at home. The app lets you overlay the data onto the video, so this was my first go at trying that out.

KTM 350 vs Yamaha T7

Same Day Same Trails Same Rider One lap. Bike vs Bike. Here we go. I was curious how the T7 stacked up against the 350 in the woods. If the T7 had some more decent knobbies, it'd have been a bit closer match. Well not really. Either way, the T7 showed once again it punches well above its weight, or however you'd say that in this case. One lap. Bike vs Bike. Here we go.

    this is ridiculous. someone should take all those rocks off the trail and that hill would be a lot easier. joking ... this is NE Wisconsin? Reminds me of New England riding. Nothing but rocks. There is a concept in the pedal biking world of "underbiking" -- riding a bike which is not suited to the terrain. Usually this means riding a gravel bike on singletrack which needs a full suspension bike to ride well. Or riding a skinny tire bike on trails in the winter. Something to give it that extra challenge. In this case, "overbiking" is the same or worse than underbiking. Taking a bike that is too big and powerful to handle a trail well. Give me my little TW200, and I'll get up this trail, no problem. And lag way behind on the roads on the way home, but ... that's the tradeoff, as always.

    • @SBMoto
      @SBMoto 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is in upper michigan. This section is a lot easier when there isn't a pokey 950 in the way 🤣🤣. The section isn't as bad as it seems. The big bikes take it with little problem. The enduro is 3rd gear revved out.

      That's just riding through whooped out singletrack on a 450# bike with a not 100% ideal suspension setup. Normally I'd wheelie or double through the whoops. I didn't have the confidence with the bike setup at the time to do that. Now with the reworked by Suspension101 fork and shock, I think it would tackle this stuff much better. Hopefully find out soon enough.

  • @jeffbaker9847
    @jeffbaker9847 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I did a tour of the local dealerships in the south Twin Cities metro yesterday to escape work, and go when no one else was there. A little eerie getting stalked by the salesguys. And in doing so, I was amazed again at how big the BIG adventure bikes are -- the Tenere, the Triumph Tiger, the BMW GS, the HD Pan America, etc. I have a BMW g650x challenge, and it is too big for me to feel comfortable doing what you're attemping in this video, and the g650x is not a big bike compared to those others. I also have a Yamaha TW200, and I'd try just about anything on that bike. I feel so much more comfortable on it, maybe just by being closer to the ground. I think a RE Himalayan would be a fun bike, comparable to the TW in size, but with a big more engine (and also weight). And you're saying, with a BIG bike, you gotta hit stuff like this with momemtum, come what may, and that's the secret, eh? Let the suspension do the work and you'll get over just about anything?

    • @SBMoto
      @SBMoto 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is something about being close to the ground to instill confidence. Problem comes in when you're riding in something where footpegs are scraping sides\bottom of the trail. Lots of these obstacles get easier with momentum. It's kind of one of those things where you got it hit things as fast as possible, while going as slow\smooth as possible to remain safe. If I had just dumped the clutch in 2nd gear going up this, I'd have gone in too quickly and likely lost control. However, had I of carried a bit more speed as my rear clipped the one root that caught me off guard, the momentum of the bike woulda carried me up and over safely. Riding this stuff over and over also helps so you get familiar with how the bike reacts.

    First off, nice to see those Bose 201 speakers in the background. Music in the garage is always nice. I bought a 2007 g650 x challenge.a year ago in Minnesota and rode it (and a Yamaha TW200) to Massachusetts with a friend. The Yamaha is great for the trails out in New England, while the X Challenge feels too big on the tight trails, but it far better on the road getting to the trails. I had an issue where the fuel pump just dead stopped while riding, and after taking everything apart and fixing nothing, I hit the fuel pump with a hammer and it works again. God only knows what's wrong, but that was months ago, and seems fine now. I look forward to getting stranded in the woods at some point, but now I carry the hammer with me, just to put the fear of god into the bike. I have an opportunity to buy an X Country in Minnesota currently. Not sure I need 2 of these weird BMWs, but the X Country feels more manageable -- lower seat height, mostly, and a different feel, that makes it interesting to me. I appreciate the info you've given here. I've really enjoyed the X Challenge and look forward to more riding around the wilderness of Vermont, Mass, NH, etc.

    • @SBMoto
      @SBMoto 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I had been running a crummy speaker off my phone when my brother gave me the Bose speakers and a bluetooth receiver for my birthday. What a difference. Who knew music could sound so good from the old speakers. 🤣 You should be able to replace the internal fuel pump with an aftermarket one. I forget which one can be used to replace it, but take a look on Amazon. It's not a 100% direct fit, but the meat n potatoes is all there. Also, keep an eye on the fuel pump assembly connector. There are 4 pins externally visible. On the inside of the pump assembly (in the tank), those then connect down to the pump and low fuel light switch. The connection from inside to outside can come loose\fail. I miss riding in Minnesota, and miss my original 2009 xCountry I had. Riding any of those up there again would be quite the treat. 👍

    Hi there SB Moto....and many many thanks for your prompt reply....it's greatly appreciated. You said that removing the right-hand side caliper and keeping the OEM Brembo master cylinder results in a "wooden" feel. SB Moto....By a "wooden" feel, do you mean a really firm feel with the front brake lever when it is being depressed for braking? Also, do you feel that the single front Brembo caliper with the OEM rotor pulls the bike up effectively on the road? If it works well on the road, I would imagine that it performs well in the dirt. I really want to keep the standard / OEM Brembo master cylinder, caliper and disc rotor on the left-hand side on the bike. looking forward to hearing from you, gerhard (Eltham Australia)

    • @SBMoto
      @SBMoto 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, by wooden feel I mean that it took more effort to do a hard lock on the front wheel. This was more noticeable on the street, but in my opinion didn't require THAT much more effort. The feel of the OEM master with the single brake caliper was not noticeable or any issue when riding dirt. I almost prefer it to a degree. It sounds odd, but it was almost easier to modulate and scrub just a little bit of speed. You can see the brake in this configuration being used in a couple of my videos: th-cam.com/video/IrIHYZH-NAU/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/kyOepk3rUd0/w-d-xo.html

    Hello SB Moto ! Many many thanks for your video on the removal of the Right-Hand side OEM Brembo brake caliper on the Yamaha T7. I intend to do the same modification as it appears to me to be a simple modification using the standard / OEM Brembo front brake master cylinder. You did mention in one of your earlier replies to an interested subscriber...."The OEM Master cylinder may not be perfectly matched to the single caliper, but its good enough for me". What did you mean by that SB Moto ??? Is the standard / OEM Brembo front brake master cylinder too powerful for the single caliper ....or is it too weak. What effect does it have for riding on the street with light dirt riding??? I don't carry passengers or load my Yamaha T7 with stuff when I ride. Looking forward to hearing back from you, gerhard (Eltham / Australia).

    • @SBMoto
      @SBMoto 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The stock master cylinder is designed to move both calipers, so when you go to a single caliper, you get a slightly "wooden" feel to the lever. I was still comfortable with it, though I have tossed on a yz/wr master cylinder. It's free to try out with the stock master cylinder, wo give it a try. Worst case is you're flushing some brake fluid. 🤘🤘👍👍

    Thanks for the great review. I like the technical aspects, and real world user aspects. I am positive things have improved quality wise. If there was a review this deep on the gpx fse 300. Deeply discounted and way cheaper than the 250 2 stroke. Blah blah blah. From what I have read and youtubed (new word), outstanding customer service. I am an older trials and trail rider and I was hoping there was a Chinese trials bike. Anyhow I am gonna keep my dr 350. Heavy, typical brakes and suspension for the era, bullet proof and it don’t bother me dropping it. The worst thing is starting it, no e start and a manual compression release. I will sell my Honda crf 150 f cuz gf no longer rides. I will sell my ttr 230 cuz it’s as good as it is bad. And sell my 350 sxf. I thought I was gonna be Taddy Blazusiak. Ha ha. Just to much bike for first and second gear rocky single track. So I have seen several bike rental companies renting gpx. It’s hard to imagine a tougher life. So here I am. Enough rambling. Thanks for the technical stuff.

      I'd love to do further reviews on the other GPX bikes. Their community is vast and very helpful if any issues arise. It does seem they've ironed out some early issues on any of their bikes, which is great to see. Thankfully my 350exc is doing everything I could ask of it, but maybe one day I can convince myself to add another GPX. Quite possibly one of their soon to be released e-bikes for the yutes. 👍
