Ellis performs “Coffee Song” at Old Songs
I went rock climbing with Tony Barrand in the 1970s in Santa Fe New Mexico. I told him a joke that my father had told me. The punchline is, “this taste like deer shit but it’s good.“ I won’t bother to tell you what the joke is but that’s the punchline. On the top of a rock that we just climbed I told this joke to Tony and he laughed And then he told me the English version and I laughed hysterically because it was so much funnier than the American version. The joke is exactly the same only the punchline is different and this punchline is, “this taste like moose turd pie. Good, though!“ He was a talented, kind man. Easy to be with.
What a delightful and tender combination of instruments and players! The celebration of each and both together is soul food for true!
Have loved your music since we met in the 1970s! Happy birthday... looking good 😀
Passage west .... my story.... ❤and now my black haired wife and child my love
Happy to see yall in person-well in a video..
Songs sung beautifully, with words of wisdom that are timeless. Words we need to hear today.
Genticorum….a night of music not to be missed!!!
Anyone have a title for the slow reel at 31:30?
Ah, they named it afterwards. La Petit March.
So joyful. . . love these guys.
So good guys. Some pieces are simply awesome. So many notes to remember. Crazy virtuosity levels.
Magnificent and joyous
Thank you, love the music down here in Florida!
Thank you for sharing this special and gentle evening on TH-cam. It made my day, almost as if I had been there in person.
Favorite group!
This is simply AMAZING 😻😻
What a fabulous concert. I might have to steal some of those songs - and probably some of the explanatory chat too! Thank you.
Wonderful! Thank you so much for sharing this online for those of us too far away to attend in person.

Sorry I had to miss the live version--HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JOHN! One of my all-time favorite performers.
While I’m in the car, I could’ve turned it on live
You've Come a Long Way, Baby ❤ I've always enjoyed your singing, Colleen.
From midlands, this is beautiful, this is history and we cannot thank you enough for keep this going. Good health and long life too you.
Marvelous!
❤
I’m just trying
I’m here
So glad to be there, what a wonderful performance!
Wonderful talent and great performance. Wish I was there in person !!
Supremely adequate! See you in Portland, Gents.
Thanks for posting. Hands down my favorite folk singer. Wish there were more videos of complete live shows like this one. Have appreciated Keelaghan's music since since 1989. Seen him live at least a dozen times - always worth it. Song time stamps: 1. 1:55 Gathering Storm 2. 7:17 Second Hand 3. 15:50 La Cattiva Strada (The Road to Ruin) 4. 20:58 Just a Letter 5. 24:45 What's for You 6. 29:46 Red River Rising 7. 39:10 Benefits of Surrender 8. 44:32 Walk On 9. 1:06:24 Cold Missouri Waters 10. 1:19:06 Canadian Railroad Trilogy (Gordon Lightfoot Cover) 11. 1:27:49 My Skies 12. 1:31:30 Alberta 13. 1:36:09 House of Cards 14. 1:47:27 Kiri's Piano 15. 2:00:57 Hillcrest Mine 16. 2:06:39 Somewhere Ahead (Encore)
Can't believe it's been two years. This was the first "thing" I was able to go out and do since the start of the pandemic. It was such a weird coincidence that the show was even able to happen here. Lo and behold, now the Johns are on a world tour playing with a full backup band. I like the new stuff too, but this was a special moment in time. I hope they look back on it as a highlight.
New to me and a much welcome addition to the folk repertoire
John, you are wonderful. I'm glad to find this. Thanks to old songs for all the old songs. On the west coast we don't get much of this king of thing.
I can nerver understand why they have so few followers in Alba.
James (like Sad Movies) always makes me cry. Hell, he could sing my shopping list and I would cry. I look forward to seeing him again in person In March in Alberta. We are getting on lad...you know you are getting old when a funeral parlor sponsors your concert. I had a chuckle when I saw that. Yep, no lie, a funeral parlor is sponsoring the concert in Vermilion. Bwaaahahaha.
Excellent voices, grand harmonica and guitar. 👌
We live on the wrong coast. We discovered Nowell sing we clear on FolkMusicUSA on NPR. We taped it on cassette 4 times and it was the best Nowell Sing We Clear of all of them . We still love it best of all of our Christmas music. We did get to hear the Coppers at the Freight &Salvage Coffee House and I bought 3 of their Cassettes.. We heard John on the Balclutha at the Hyde Street Pier in SF. We bought a bunch of CD's. We do what we can. Thank you Old Songs. Oakland CA 2024
fantastic
Superb. As always.😊
Wonderful! I love your encore. So true so true. $.04 cents a play. As a musician, I know how disgusting this is. Thanks for the song.
Thank you so much.
Love that rendition of Rudolph!
I love this! Your harmonies are amazing and your choice of music is delightful. Thank you! It's even better considering that we didn't have Revels this year. Oakland CA
Quite wonderfull SOLSTICE treat ! much thanks for the different languages & the sweet depth of darkness together ~~ i especially appriciate the nature rooted songs & taking comunity into the darkness ~~ { laura in p.t. wa. }
You guys are just so excellent! Each time I listen I'm more impressed with your amazing harmonies! Thanks for sharing with us. May have been the best Xmas concert I heard!
A very good writer & musician, thank you for posting this, it's appreciated.
A beautiful man and a brilliant musician with a vital, unifying message. Thank you!
A nordic String fantasy, best listened to while outside looking over the bay. Joy.
Very enjoyable and varied performance
