The Canyon, Colca Valley to Lake Titicaca, exploring around the white city of AREQUIPA (SA Vlogs)
After a few dusty days, I finally arrived in Arequipa, which is also called the White City of Peru. This has to be my favorite city in the country. It felt so peaceful, possibly due to being surrounded by the mighty 6000-meter mountains. The altitude was a little higher than 2000 meters, so I definitely started to feel a bit of altitude sickness and needed a few days to adjust.
I went on a 2-day, 1-night trek in the Colca Valley, descending all the way down to the valley on day one and returning on day two. It was a challenging experience due to the altitude and my fitness level, but it was a good hike and a great preparation for what was to come in the following days.
I spent a few days in Arequipa, slowing down a bit before moving south to Puno. After just one evening in Puno, I chose to stay overnight in the Uros village on Lake Titicaca. Lake Titicaca is the highest lake in the world, shared by both Peru and Bolivia. Staying there for a night with the locals on a floating island was an interesting experience. I definitely recommend this experience-I truly enjoyed my stay.
In June 2023, I gave up a well-paying career, along with many other things, to go on a round-the-world trip that I've always dreamt of doing.
