Wind, rain and moments of fog upriver today on the Skagit River. The best news of the new year though is that I saw steelhead rising for the first time. The other good news is that I got the skunk off today! #pnw #pnwfishing #fishing #steelheadfishing #whitefish #bobberdown

We had to go try for steelhead on the Stilly since it is a limited engagement. It was one of those costly days you have on the water. We lost gear, caught trees, and broke another rod tip. But it was an absolutely beautiful day. #fishing #pnw #pnwfishing #steelhead #StillyforSteelies

PNW Daily: bird flu in Whatcom County
มุมมอง 607 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Welp. High egg prices? Heck we've had those. Avain flu hasn't really changed much for us in the far PNW. Until today. I was trying to fish Wiser Lake, which can be a fun little bass lake in the winter. I instead ended up going to the car wash to wash all my gear and kayak after finding dead geese and ducks. Bird Flu is in Whatcom County and in our fishing waters. I'm not really sure what we're ...

We ventured upriver today after having to call an audible. Our plan was to go south, but we went east instead. Hitting the Sauk River first thing, it wasn't long before we discovered we were 10 miles from the nearest gas station or bathroom that wasn't a porta-potty. The good news is that we found a place you can check out in an emergency as well... #pnw #fishing #pnwadventures #pnwfishing

Daily Catch Fri Jan 3 - We rounded out the week at Deception Pass. Yes, there are steelhead in the salt and believe it or not, they actually have pass Whidbey Island to get to one of the rivers on the orher side such as the Skagit, Stilly and others. It's always beautiful there at the pass and not many tourists around when it's a rainy January day. #steelheadfishing #pnw #pnwadventure #fishing ...

LAST DAY of the salmon season on the Nooksack River, then it closes to all fishing Jan 1 in hopes of giving the few wandering steelhead a chance to do their thing this new year. Brian and Chris hit the river at the confluence for coho, but really hoped to catch at least one Nooksack steelie. Clear water! Must not have had the rain up there as we did down hear............ Got a set up today, going to try a Diawa Tatula 200 left hand. I always thought Diawa were cheap, this one had a bigger spool and wide line guide when trigger pulled..... Looks like a quality unit.
Tatula's are solid reels!
Dang brother sorry about the double drama with taking a spill and busting the rod then losing the drift bobber on the tree. Conditions looked super nice though
Use spinners 100 % for steelhead ! One of my favorite ways too catch them .
@@ScottSteele-l5x I catch them that way as well, but I catch more with beads the last few years. I still throw them and spoons.
This might be one of my favorite of your videos. We've all had days like this - in fact, me, yesterday at Ft. Casey for sw steelhead (aka unicorn fish)... fished about 45 minutes and lost about $20 in gear 😂
@@tdn137a we’re all chasing unicorns these days 🤣
If you float gear, might want to invest in some bobbers ;) Saves on wasted days and fuel..........................
@@His1child I loaned out my gear and had extra dark ones, just don’t like using the dark Beau Mac’s unless I am drifting egg clusters for kings. I fished a while longer but wanted to grab more at Holidays on the way home
Seems like a good jerkbait lake by the bridge piling slow suspending or crawling a jig or chatterbait. Will be i teresting to see how spring plays out for topwater bites. Some big bass in there I've seen from friends fishing it.
I have caught many largemouth at Wiser in the spring, but it gets overgrown really fast due to all the ag surrounding it.
I haven't gotten around to fishing that lake for bass yet even though I live pretty close to it, but I've heard the alge and toxins are bad so catch and release only. Was cool to take my wife last year and walk on it when it froze over but yeah the weeds are thick for a while on it. Sad to see the birds getting smacked.
Any lake with a highway through it is a no-go for keeping fish for me, I also don't keep anything out of Terrell since it is next to the aluminum plant and refineries.
@@PNWDailyi get it. I've worked at both p66 and bp. Just transfered to marathon in Anacortes Monday to help out. I'll be back for the turnaround and have my poles in the truck ready to fish after😂 but I haven't fished any of the lakes on whidby area yet so I might scout some out :)
@@BlackRifleSurvival Most of them are private, including one owned by Starlord himself
Dead of winter birds die. People are vicious birds die. Don't assume....
One or two birds here or there is one thing, but there were multiple birds of different species. Already confirmed cases in the county according to the county. Reported it to WDFW.
10 miles for #2! I keep my bucket/seat and bio bags with me at all times!🤣🤣🤣
I'm within striking distance of the Cowlitz, but not really interested in combat fishing
This is my first year steelheading. Been doing lots of research, but I'm still confused about the regs. Are steelhead regulated as other trout or other game fish if there are no emergency regs?
Steelhead: Release all wild steelhead. Min. size 20". Daily limit 2. Open during salmon or game fish seasons unless as otherwise listed. (So it is a game fish and the app will always list the exclusion if not allowed)
@PNWDaily thanks. That helps a lot
Looks like the devils elbow across from Thunderbird... I saw a sturgeon breach in the middle back when the silvers were running, it had to be 6' to 7' couldn't tell it's tail didn't leave the water....................
I was wondering if the water had come down any, might need to go get the fish you missed 😂
Yes, Stilly is selective gear 🤦 looking up the rules is kinda a pre-req to fishing 😂😂 As for barbed hooks, I prefer barbless for penetration.
If I have barbless on I don't worry too much since it's gonna be legal. I knew it was open, but I check so many places the day before trying to make a plan of attack and just spaced while I was out there.
I fished farhter upriver same day as you! We didn't see a single steelhead, but one guy caught a nice coho at the hatchery.
I got a bright chrome coho on the Skagit on Saturday evening, there must be a few getting caught cause there were anglers everywhere this weekend!
My whole life of fishing the Skagit, I've never caught any white fish! Caught Catfish but never a white fish.... You're good at it! What still open on the Skagit? Just dolly's right?
Dolly/Bulls and hatchery trout in the slot (14"-19") plus the misc stuff. I catch Bulls on the hoochies and spoons, they cut super pink just like a salmon and are such fun so hoping for one of those.
@@PNWDaily I caught a nice one at the ferry landing north side, 18" using a froggy and chrome Dick Night I tossed it back, and a 24" one at Gilligan straight out from the mouth............ That was a keeper! Super fat
Dude love your videos sick bro sorry for you loss just lost 2 family members I feel you by the way are you on Fishbrain
Yep, I am on Fishbrain @PNWDaily! Thanks for your thoughts and condolences.
I would've dropped by cranberry lake and see if the trout were hitting on the way back lol. I have been on the bank by the bridge but not on the north end. I'll be back out start of pink season whooooo hoo!
Oh snap! I forgot about pinks I have been so obsessed with steelhead these days. Super excited, it is so fun catching pinks on the kayak.
There were dudes bait fishing at both the pullouts along Cranberry on the way out, lol
That whole stretch did look fishy though!
The water has looked fishy all week, but it's been tough!
I went out too, but the Chehalis system is still blown out and chocolatey
Yep, lots of high water around making life harder than it already is searching for Steelhead.
Cool concept for a channel!
I haven't lived in Western WA since 2002 but I don't ever recall the Sauk being that clear. Are you above the Suiattle?
We are above the confluence of the Suiattle in the last scene, but start below. Both the Sauk and Skagit looked PERFECT New Year's Day.
Nice man love your vids and love watching you fish my favorite spots on the nooksack love to see someone from my area who fishes my same river
Appreciate it, don't forget to subscribe and share!
@ thanks man I see you every once and a while at the south fork keep catchin em
What thing do Daiwa reels do that "pulls out"? I have over 20 Daiwa baitcasters. Tarpon, cobia, snook, reds, baby shark....all good
I have had a couple CR80 models that started to release line when you'd try and set the hook. It apparently is a known design flaw, one that my friend and I talk about working at a local tackle shop.
No luck at the confluence? I saw that one jump! you did also... I had to give it up, had things to do....
I hate it when things get in the way of fishing, lol
The stock is low.... It's a no go! Was gonna go in the morning, I'm hoping next season will see better return.
Gonna need a set of binoculars to see your float go round the bend 😂, fish on! 😂 only time I go for a mile hero float is when i need to re spool my dang line when i develop major twists haha.
My ex was kind enough to inform me I mispronounced the Methow River. My apologies.
Risk it for big Sturgeon lol🎉🎉🎉😂
Where's the 1080P
I love that you openly thanked and praised He, who provided you the experience......
Above or below the falls?

Did you see where I went today!?
At least you got out there and threw a few casts. Hope you get a steelhead soon!
@@BlackRifleSurvival definitely slowed down but guys are still catching fish on the Skagit as well if you have time to make the drive. I’m headed out of town, have fun!
I grabbed this pattern at Cabelas for $2.99 for a pack of 8, those Simon blades are 🔥🔥🔥🔥
The Simon blades are @$6
I like the chartuse colors, they seem to pull fish on that system pretty reliably
Alright I'll be the first to say...I've never seen a rockfish in the nook, haha. Rock rock fish! Boom! Good times brother!
That's a fun spot I hit it last year on the other side upriver of the bridge had low enough water to wade and get on some chum. My nephew absolutely destroyed my reel on a chum who spooled him running down river, not his fault it was a 15lb drag 2500 Kalon reel. But man was that exciting to watch him get on his 1st washington salmon on his visit to the state.
Looks like a nice day on the river boys!
It was a super slow day still lots of chum around I got a coho on north fork but had to put her back besides that and the one at the confluence thats all we saw
What size pline hootchie is that? 2.5" and what size tinsle skirt to use 3"? I wanna try to make some!
2.5 hoochie skirts, but I go smaller sometimes, I trim the tinsel to match the end of the hoochie and make sure the hook is even with the end as well.
Oh killer! Yeah I got the 2.5s for my buzzbombs already so ill order the tinsels now! Thanks brother! Gonna rig up a few crazy color combos :)@PNWDaily
Oh, wow, 1080p 😂. I'm always surprised to hear ppl catching steelhead in such open waters like the Columbia. Keep grinding. You'll catch'm.
Let's forget these half done silvers. It about time you post video of you catching steelhead on the nook😂 it gona be tough🎉m
Was great to meet you on the water this morning and fish a little bit with you! But glad you got to meet my dog Ranger once he calmed down he was happy and all was good. I appreciate your help on the setups and my questions also! Catch you around again sometime it was fun to watch you bring in that coho!
Hey Brian, question on the clevis, what size for that 3.5 blade? I'm starting to build up my shortbus collection and wanted to get some quick disconnect clevis to swap blades on the fly. Thanks for the fun and educational vids! Wish me luck tomorrow I'm gonna try a wicked and some other methods
Heck yeah been a good few days on the Ole nookfor ya! Great video as always
It was a great day, thanks!
I'll be out Friday, I'd love to collaborate on a video with ya. I'm local.
I'll be out in central Washington this weekend, maybe another time bud!
Hey no worries, I'll give ya a channel shoutout when I get a fish on! Be good brother! @PNWDaily
People don't care because there are too many rules for fishing. So, they are going to fish and keep fish. You don't play by the rules, you have a freezer full. Play by the rules and get nothing.
If you have to freeze fish then that means you are over fishing. More than likely you'll never eat it and it will get freezer burn and go to waste. People will care when the resources are gone because of dim witted people like yourself 🦃
