Boxing is like checkers, MMA is like chess. There are way more variables involved with MMA which makes it a much harder sport to master than boxing. To be a great MMA fighter you need to be great at everything, not just punching. That is why you rarely ever see boxers trying to fight in MMA, they know they will get destroyed unless they take the time to learn the other aspects of fighting besides just punching.
