The Gatwick Baby - Abandoned At Birth
Facebook Page - pages/Gary-gatwick-airport-baby-abandoned/181404638541470?fref=ts
Hi my name is Steve and I was abandoned as a baby on the 10th of April 1986 at Gatwick Airport I was found by a lady that worked at the airport i was found in the ladies toilets, the doctors believed I was around 10 days old, I was given the birth date of the 31st March however I don't know if that is the day I was born but that is the day I celebrate my birthday.
When I was abandoned I was in the newspapers and all over the news. I was named by airport staff as Gary Gatwick
My first birth certificate states I was named as Gary Laker. I was adopted later on and my name changed to Steven Gary Hydes.
I am searching for any information as to what happened to me. I started my search around 9 years ago where i appealed for help on Meridian Mews, GMTV, and local newspapers, where as I then met the women who found me and other people who were involved in my case I then appeared in a documentary on channel 2 called found, I then stopped my search for a while as i had my daughter and started again 2 years ago when I appeared in a documentary on BBC 3 in April 2011 called The Gatwick Baby Abandoned at Birth.
Following this I went in national newspapers again, this morning and the late late show in Ireland. the documentary also went worldwide but unfortunately I have not found out what happened to me the day or the days before I was abandoned. since doing the Documentary I have had a son and although I have a happy family I want to know what happened to me in the early days as I do not know my name, birthday or if I have any brothers or sisters.
I am looking for any information that anyone might know or have to find out what happened to me you can message me on Facebook or on my email address at the top. I do have someone helping me who has helped me since day one and is happy to talk to anyone in confidence without me knowing if you wish. any little detail is a lot to me as I know nothing.
I was left in baby grows and blankets but no note was left they say I had been well cared for. you can view the photos of my baby grows and blankets in my photos.

Keith is the person helping me and if anyone wishes to contact him in strict confidence instead of my self they can contact him on buddyatkeepers@hotmail.co.uk,he is happy to speak to anyone and would pass on a charity s information if they wish to discuss with someone more private however what is said to Keith will not even get back to me if that is there wish.I appreciate people sharing my page as this gives me more chance of finding out information someone out there must know and i want my biological family to know that i have no anger towards what happened as I believe what they did they would have had a very good reason, I understand my mum may have a family where they will know nothing about me or her past and that I understand but I have a whole family out there that I know nothing about.

A thought came to my mind is that you could get a list of ALL babies born close to the airport around your time of birth? With this list you could check on each one because ALL would have a medical and educational trail? It’s time consuming but, maybe each family member could help? I hope and pray you find your mom and dad; I am so sorry for your suffering but your adopted parents are Wondeful! What a Blessing they are. 🤗🥰

He should take a DNA test like ancestry now, years later. It gives so much more information.

To everybody who wants to know more about your ancestry, or you want to find your real parents; do some commercial DNA tests. Search angels or commercial experts can help you with this. I am from Nederland, so I am specialized in cases from here. But there are search angels everywhere. There is no guarantee given, but the more people test, the better the chances are to help people to find their relatives.

Feel sad for the abandoned babies. Why the the parents of the babies only knows how to make babies but doesn't have a sense of responsibility for what hey have done.

That’s an awful and thoughtless comment. You don’t know the circumstances that led to the pregnancy - it may have been deeply traumatic and disturbing. Giving birth and leaving your baby must be too. Mother’s to be may be being abused and , harassed, threatened, in fear of their lives or destitute or addicts who need help and support. This child was clearly left in a place where he would be found and safe.

The U K needs to stop their habit of ignoring issues and do something that keeps abandoned babies safe. Everyone thinks Texas is backwards but Texas was one of the first states to implement Baby Moses laws.

Feels the same for me after both my parents passed away. It left a void below, where there was once stability. Its like the ground was swept from beneath me. The answer is to become what you feel is missing and live your life 😊🕊💙

It seems he finally found his family, his mum had passed away and his dad and siblings didn't know he existed. Without knowing more details, he was 10 days old when found, that means his mother had him for 10 days before leaving him. How's possible his father didn't know? Unless he was away at sea, in prison or far, far away for at least 9 months 🤔

Steven's story remindss of closed adoptions. The children have no information about their families or any health/medical issues they might have to face. One of my aunts who was adopted, the only information given to her adopted parents was that her biological parents were very young and unmarried, along with her nationality background.

Watching this 9 years later; He should apply to the show "who do you think are" or "Long Lost Family." The dna has come leaps and bounds since his show and they can link him with actual family relations now.

Genetics would be the way forward. Do an ancestry DNA kit or something and see what matches come up. You could probably narrow down from there who the mother might be. It was pretty smart to use the airport. They were pretty much guaranteed not to be found.

The suspected mother called the authorities. No one said whether or not she had a British accent? This might have given Stephen a hint as to whether or not he was a “Plane baby”

Maybe he might put the same article in a national newspaper in Ireland. It's a long shot but if he's got some link with the country - might help though this documentary came out 9 years ago. Given the history between the two countries of Irish women going to England to give their babies away & in the past loads of Irish people went to work in England - there's supposed to be loads of Irish communities in certain areas. Maybe she didn't fly in from anywhere given the location of where the toilets were and there were no cameras in that area - they might have just entered & exited the building at the same point? Obviously at an airport she had less chance of getting caught . Maybe the person came by car or bus given the fact he was 10 days old & well cared for. Someone had to be looking after him locally - where was he till then? These are just suggestions - you may or may not have tried these by now. Good luck. 👍🤞

Society wants us control our mind, to believe mother's love is of nurture and they have the best interest of their child, mother' love is a special love, they love their child . This is a myth!!!! conditioning out mind. This video confirms, that is not true, and millions of babies have been abandoned, aborted, and abused, by their mother, and not all mothers are loving, A loving mother would never abandoned their child, specially in a disgusting public toilet full of germs, Also knowing that the child would know he was left in a toilet she is self centred and inventive. Why bother to look for her, she is not looking for him, and she does not want him , children should not look for their mother, because she is not looking for him.

What if some mothers were forced to give a baby up? Maybe a father or someone else abandoned the baby or the mother was coerced. We just don’t know anything.

I noticed this video is 9 years old so I searched a bit and found a listing for Steven in Wikipedia which states, "Despite extensive searching by Hydes and others for more than a quarter century little or no information had turned up about Hydes' origins. Hydes has been featured on several TV programmes and was the subject of a documentary produced by the BBC. In May 2019 Hydes announced on his Facebook page that through help from genetic genealogists he had found his birth family but his biological mother had already died. His biological father and his siblings were unaware of his existence."

This is a situation where no one can understand what abandoned children feel unless you have been through it. It's something I could never imagine doing to my daughter. To Steve's credit, his adoptive parents did a great job with him. He's married, seems to be a great father to his credit. His beautiful daughter will never go through what he did. May he go on to live the best life with his wife and daughter.
