Accept "Riff Orgy" Medley Live in Boston September 15, 2024
Accept was playing really well and had their mix working good, so I shot some video of this medley they do with some of their classic heavy metal songs including: Demon's Night, Starlight, Losers and Winners, & Flash Rocking Man.
Accept is a precision classic metal machine in the live setting. They can really deliver a tight performance with great quality sound with lots of energy and power.

#progrock #instrumental #progmetal I needed an energetic track to open a prog rock/prog metal/experimental music album, so I composed this piece. Buckle up! 😉 The harmonic and melodic structure is based on the G# bebop half-diminished scale. There are lots of time signature changes. Turn on the subtitles (CC) for more composition notes. I took inspiration from images of Jupiter and its moons fr...
Com 1: Pathological by Xavier Xerxes Official Video Avant-garde Instrumental (CC) Composition Notes

#avantgarde #instrumental #morsecode I made an instrumental with lyrics spelled out in Morse Code on the bass guitar. The Morse Code is the basis of the rhythmic structure of the song, so the time signature changes almost every measure. It's really complex music - avant-garde rock. I used a custom scale as the basis for the melodic and harmonic structure that I'm calling the "Pathological Scale...

#instrumental #drums #rock This is an original rock instrumental piece inspired by three drummers: Paulina "Pau" Villarreal (from @TheWarning ) John "Bonzo" Bonham Gene Krupa These drummers made their instrument a vital part of the music they created and I tried to compose a drum part with that in mind along with general aspects of their playing/composition styles and sound. #polymeter #progrock #instrumental This rhythm idea was inspired by Marco Minnemann. Marco Minnemann demonstrated playing a 5/16 time pattern with his left hand while playing 7/16 time pattern with his right hand - and then he added a 9/16 time pattern with his his feet. My mind was blown by his coordination, but I also thought the sound of the drum patterns going through the stages of sync was...
Escapism by The Warning: Riff Transposed for Piano
มุมมอง 3513 หลายเดือนก่อน
I thought the riff of Escapism sounded really cool so I transposed it for piano. I included the teaser of the original riff at the end of the video. The scale this riff uses is C# Moorish Phrygian (with the scale structure: 1 b2 b3 3 4 5 #5 b7 7). This allows for lots of chromatic movements in the melodic structure and dissonance in the harmonic structure. It's rarely used in western popular mu...

I love the warning, I love 80s metal. Here's the deal though. The warning is much closer to grunge then it is to metal. A much better comparison would be to AIC or Nirvana and there is nothing wrong with that. My opinion is that The Warning falls into the grunge genre with metal influences.

This is really good. Someone was complaining on the subreddit a few weeks ago about all the "I'm fifty-something and..." comments you see on TW. Why say that, he asked. And, to be fair, his frustration is understandable, it's like we're "claiming" a band younger than our kids who have a fan base their own age too. And, as an aside, Gen X were born to be old. Not fitting in, being unwelcome is kind of our thing. But this video really shows where we're coming from. I basically stopped listening to new bands in the 90s, and if I occasionally made an effort with, say, Nickelback or My Chemical Romance, well, it was an effort. When I first listened to Queen of the Murder Scene it felt like having the cassette of Appetite for Destruction in my hands, and it was impossible not to dwell on how long it had been since then.

Ale's extended bass intro in the Whisky a Go Go version of "Dust To Dust" actually reminds me quite a bit of the intro in "The Red And the Black" by Iron Maiden. If The Warning were an early 80's band, they probably would have been classified as metal. It sure seems like they're using some of those old metal bands as inspiration. Ozzy's "Crazy Train" is featured in this video, and DPA did a cover of that song when they were young(er). And I still want them to do a full length cover of "Kickstart My Heart" by Mötley Crüe. Heck, I want them to do a cover album with rerecordings of all of their old covers, including above mentioned "Kickstart My Heart" and of course their original cover of "Enter Sandman" though I very much doubt it will ever happen, since their cover band days are long gone, and they are busy touring, and writing awesome original music.

That got me fired-up! The odd time signatures switching off with 4/4 gets attention and drives it hard. The diminished 5th intervals give it a dark and sinister vibe, and the spacey toned melodies fit the space theme. I'm trying to decide if I like the intro or the ending better - so rocking! 🤘

Whew. That was fire! As a barely mediocre lapsed guitarist/pianist I listened in awe at the onslaught of unusual chords and driving beats. The Krupa-esque swing at 2:04 was a wise addition that acted as sort of an aural palate cleanser in preparation for the second half. Heavy Metal is such a broad and far reaching genre of music, from it's beginning which by todays standards would be considered more Hard Rock to the modern extreme versions. I would consider The Warning a hard rock band with metal leanings so as not to confuse a modern listener, but had they come out in the 80's/late 70's, they would have been considered a metal band in my opinion.
