DIY Browning Hi-Power 19 Round Magazine
a little DIY Hi-Power fun. this is a pretty easy mod to do so have fun and take your time. the hardest parts are going to be finding the Pierce Grips +2 Extension but a little Google-Fu will help you with that.
the model of the extension is "PG-BHP9" and the UPC is "605849300023"
you can get little sheets of Kydex On Ebay for pretty cheap as well.
I hope this helps and if you do make one i would love to see your results

Ever finish this ?
thank you for sharing. i enjoyed the video. now i want an astra police revolver. i have a 960 which is older and bigger.
I bought my Police model in '81, it was in 357 mag
How can I get this piece?? Is there a website?? I am from Saudi Arabia and please reply if I can get it
I made the parts and have sold them and the pistol since making this video. Sorry.
@@BLAKE_MAKES Do you have a video about the industry? What are the dimensions of length and width?
Just saw this and i wanted to share my experience. I bought a dissembled Charter Arms 1979 Undercover .38 Spl +P in much the same shape it without rust or pitting in 2022 as a future backpack revolver and I have to say I was extremely impressed with their Customer Service. It was completely torn down and in pieces. I was missing the guide rod and all the springs. I called them up to see what it would cost to get the parts and explained what condition the firearm was in and what was missing. I also found a crack in the chamber between a cylinder wall so I also needed a Cylinder. The bluing was worn and otherwise in good shape. After I got done explaining yourself to the woman in customer service They sent me a prepaid label to send it in so I did. 11 days later I got a tracking number for the return and when I. Allied them to see what I owed them I was told that it had been talked care under warranty repair. Charter arms also reblued the entire revolver except the hammer. The DA pull was set at 9.2 lbs on the 38spl revolver and the SA pull is at a amazing 2.3 lbs and rivals a couple of my S&W’s. I cannot be any happier with a company. When I got it the work order was stated as reblue and hand fit and time a New .38 SPL +p cylinder and tune. Boy did they do a great job. For something that was going to be a backpack and glovebox revolver I have no issues with doing what I intended to do with it but it also fell into my summer EDC rotation. I now have a .357 and a .44 Spl and while giving up a hole with those purchases I gained a whole new perspective on a great company. $76 for deductions six dollars to have it shipped absolutely nothing to get a beautifully functioning fire in parts are. It’s like you said if the company is gonna stand behind the fire or you bought is a project fully expecting to have to put another hundred dollars or so Into off my complete support especially being manufactured in the United States
How could I have a 357 barrel ?
This did make it in 357 mag, Ive had one. They are out there just gotta hunt for them. Don’t confuse it with the “Astra 357” as it is a different model entirely from the “Astra Police” in 357
A curios point for me about the 38/44 are colt revolvers. Specifically the New Service and the Official Police/Officers Model 38. Colt I know did advertise that any of their 38 special revolvers could handle the 38/44 cartridge. A 1933 catalogue I saw touted that the official police could be fired with the standard 38 special, the 38 special police (the 190-200 grain loads) and the 38/44 heavy duty. I’ve never spoken to anyone who has run +p 38 special out of a colt but it would be interesting to send a few through a “sacrificial lamb” to see if colt was telling the truth or if the advertising was bunk. Edit: after checking again the D frame Police Positive special WASNT advertised as being able to handle the 38/44 load.
Would be fun but getting a cheap colt to test with and not be sad when/if it blows up ain’t cheap anymore. I hear tale of the day when you could pick ‘em up a dime a dozen but not these days sadly.
@@BLAKE_MAKES for me personally I would feel the most comfortable trying it on a heavy barrel example on the I frame Official Police or Officers Model. Having handled an official Police with a heavy barrel it does feel comparable to the later smith L frames.
I’ll keep my eyes out for one. I have some “metal piercing” 38spl from the 1930s that is 38/44 or 38spl HV
The Colt Official Police/Army Special is basically the same gun on the inside as a Python. All Colt did was make the cylinder slightly longer to chamber .357 magnum. I wouldn’t have any issues with shooting a few cylinders of .38/44 through any Colt medium frame gun. Just don’t make it a steady diet.
The music is trash 🗑
All charter arms 38s are +p rated they just don't recommend it because they didn't notice much velocity gains.
Have you seen this in writing somewhere?
I believe it’s on their website
Pre-zeros? +P is a rating for ammo that is loaded to a higher pressure than standard. charterfirearms.com/pages/faqs right there in their faq
@Blake Makes my bad I thought I was replying to a different comment on another video where a guy was mad at sig saying it was trash because his p220 wasnt zeroed out of the box, but yeah the +p rating was in the faq section of their website if I remember right
No worries. All good.
I own that same revolver . Had it for over 30 yrs and still love it !
why didn't you just use the Pearce baseplate for retention as designed?
Sorry for the late reply, the sub-floor plate provided is designed to be used with the original 13rd magazines and thus does not work with the mec-gar 15rd mags which allows us to use the stock sub-floor plate and act as a +4ish to the mags.
I saw a comment on another video saying to clamp the ores down evenly and then install your hinge. That way when you close the press the pressure is evenly distributed. Thought it was a good idea and wanted to pass it along.
I own three Police Bulldogs, two four inch barreled variants and a mint snubby like yours. Also have a new Police Undercover and just won a "Clyde" variant on Gunbroker. I enjoy the CA six shooters!
Don´t you have a video testing the loads you did? How was the results?
Most Astra police were .357 Magnum caliber, that is why the cylinder is long for a .38 Special, this one must be .38 Special only because internal regulation of some police departmen in a Spanish city or county. I think a good Gunsmith could coverted easily to .357 magnum caliber.
Sounds like this is one that will protect you . It’s your grab gun…
Why an adorable tiny..Good Job my man.
Rad, Easier than I thought and the knee pads are seemingly a great idea.. Sheesh, I hope that’s unloaded…(I am quite sure that it is unloaded, but the fire/Can bit tossed a wrench in my “safety conscious” assumptions…No I know the “Other” reason Peeps always check and clear on vids..)😉👍
Dude clean that thing, it is yucky. Charter arms may not win any awards but they are reliable and tough. I have a southpaw that I purchased in 2018, it has an amazing trigger and is a nail driver. I picked up some g10 professional grips for them and the firearm is actually very appealing in addition to working great. I like it.
1. You’re not my real dad 2. It is clean. It’s just in really rough shape. I really love the thing as well and I carry it frequently.
love that slide/frame flush lockback ... also show working the safety/hmr along w/ the mag capacity
not the factory ones?how much do the Pearce grips add?
If you follow the instructions it adds 4 rounds to the mecgar 15-round mags
@@BLAKE_MAKES I was trying gauge whether I should do those or get KRD’s. Havent read to many good things about the KRDs though.
I haven’t had any of the krd mags so I’m not sure on their quality. I’ve seen mixed reviews on them. They are 17 rounds anyways. More is better.
@@BLAKE_MAKES agreed plus KRD mags are more expensive as well. ive seen them go on gb for 85 per mag. wilson has the 15s for less than 30 plus the Pearce grips are 8-11$ so definitely better price wise.
Agreed. To much money for a gamble. Not saying that my method is any more reliable but they worked perfectly for me with my garbage Kareen mk1.
Where can I get the 357 to swap out my 38 cylinder ?
I really wish I knew. I’ve never seen them separate or even for sale.
@@BLAKE_MAKES :(!
How can i get a 357 barrel ?
Nice and easy! Now all I need is an HP!😂 Great video, look forward to seeing your weird schtuff!!🤘
You can find them pretty easy if your looking for one. Prices are climbing but I got mine for a little under 4
Awesome man!!
Nice and stable griphold! SFS equipped?
Thanks! Yes it is SFS equipped, got it from y’all a bit ago. Next step for it is good sights.
How's the grouping? That extra weight holding the barrel down a little more?
Grouping is great. The Hipower is a all steel gun so recoil is minimal.
I've seen a guy restore one of these.
Boy I sure wish they would make a six shot now. Great vid sir.
i believe they still do. cant remember the model number but im pretty sure some version of this is still in production. (sorry for the late reply)
@@BLAKE_MAKES yeah there is one, they call it the police undercover (not to be confused with the regular undercover which is a usual 5 shot) instead of police bulldog
Во дерево,вот теперь класс!
I love the old classics. I've been carrying snubnose revolvers for almost 7 years now, and flat out love them.
@BlakeMakes looks good! hope you got the main spring tool. I hear it's a pain to put back in without one.
It wasn’t so bad. You can use a adjustable wrench or a small clamp.
Among others, I have an interesting collection of Astra’s and Llama’s all of which are fine guns. And they were all cheap.
Stay safe and warm too! I cant wait to see the progress on the walker!
you have work on the grips, and trigger guard, but you will get there
I have the Undercover/ w 3" barrel & Bulldog .44 Special w/3" barrel. Both great affordable guns!
For some reason Charter Arms are almost impossible to obtain right now. I've been trying all the gun stores within an hour's drive. And Charter Arms has more than doubled their output.
I'm assuming the primers didn't damage the barrel? Either way, neat experiment. I was wondering what to do with my spent primers.
Damn, I hoped I had thought of this first 😁. Good stuff man thanks for the upload.
Nice review, through and thanks for the manual!! Just picked one of these up for $100, my wood grips went up to the trigger guard area tho
Nice find! The “target” style stocks are much more common.
i have a fn barracuda .357 mag from the same factory, great gun
Do you still have this 38
I don’t. I found a Police In .357 and sold this one to a friend who missed out when they were available.
@@BLAKE_MAKES I dont have one either but I do still have my loved a70 which is almost impossible to find
Where in WA is that shooting spot?
Great job two thumbs up 👍 👍
Your's is in the best condition of all the picks I've seen online to date.
Thanks! I believe it was a part of a “very good” batch when they first hit the market.
Nice video! Did you try them extensively after? I'm afraid the firing pin will dig a hole into the plastic glue.
I haven’t had an issue yet but fixing it would be as easy as heating the glue up with a lighter to fill in the hole :-)
ttdelta2 ttdelta2 the hammer would just bounce off the glue protecting the hammer and “ IF “ the glue does get damage you can easily fix it with a little heat or some more glue.
good video
After using them for a good long while I haven’t noticed any issues with the dummies or the firing pin on my 870.
Haha were you trying to make it look like you were the guy who almost blew his head off lmao
Ha ha nah. Just messing around.
Blake Makes th-cam.com/video/FjDu5zwa4rM/w-d-xo.html
I kinda like my astra, I believe I have this same length but mine is 357. I’m looking for a holster for it but so far I just have a nylon one size fits all holster but it’s made for a longer barrel.
Try using a L frame or GP100 holster. Those should would.
a true hero
4 hour edit right here. 😂
More than that. Thanks for keeping me sane In the process!
Blake Makes no problem man. How long was you there after the stream ended?
Called it quits after it ended. Picked it back up today. Just a few minor things here and there.
Blake Makes it took so long to edit
What are those Pachmayr grips you have on? Do they have a mark or number inside them?
They are grips made for the astra 357 by pachmayr. If you look around eBay or gunbroker they pop up from time to time. I’ve ready that you can get N frame grips to work but I’ve tried a few to no avail.
Thanks! I found one on ebay!
That’s great! I saw one the other day and thought of you. Maybe you got that one.
COuld easily get a 357 reamer and chamber it up for 357mag. They are close to an N frame. Good deal.
I’ve thought of that but am a bit worried that the cylinder wouldn’t handle the higher pressures of 357.
These identical revolvers were made in 357 as well. The 38 chamber was made deliberately limited for police use as European police doctrine at that time was leaning to avoiding the magnum stigma. Same gun was made by Astra for FN for in 9mm and 357. Great value for what a quality steel revolver costs new these days.
I totally understand and agree. The big question is, did astra bother to heat treat the 38 cylinders the same as the 357 cylinders?
not a good idea if it started its life as a 38 then it needs to stay a 38
Haven’t changed it and most likely won’t. Besides who needs 357 when you’ve got 38/44
