Turkey in the Straw - Virginia Squires
This is the classic fiddle tune played and sung by the Virginia Squires.
It features each musician in the band on a solo including Ronnie Simpkins' excellent bass guitar solo.
The Virginia Squires to my knowledge only released this one album.
Sammy Shelor - Banjo, Vocals
Rickie Simpkins - Fiddle and Vocals
Ronnie Simpkins - Bass Guitar and Vocals
Mark Newton - Acoustic Guitar and Vocals

Good to know ZOD from Superman II has moved on from conquering earth to doing drum tutorials.
Never knew how deep Steve Martin was. Charlie rose did not seem capable of going deeper with Steve. So Steve is the genius
I assume this was shot sometime in the 90s, back when the "expensive" u47s only went for around $5000.
Who is publishing Norm MacDonald's memoirs?
I love how everyone has contradictory opinions on what is best. “Throw a blanket over the bass drum” “put reflective plywood under the bass drum” lol bottom line is just make it sound good to your ears as it goes to “tape”.
As a drummer who has recorded before, it is always a funny contrast when you have to have a deadened bass drum , to make a live drum sound 😅
Les was beyond brilliant.
Unbelievable
That kt... the hast sounded bad very bin liddy and the snare was ringy as hell. Whole thing sounds mint once the audio chef has worked with the ingredients for a few minutes. I learned from this!
Amazing stories. And Eddie Kramer is smart enough to let him talk without interruptions.
Does Anyone have any info on the Monitor Unit? . I can't find a Circuit Diagram anywhere on the Internet and Vox doesn't want to help either 😢. Im not getting any sound out of the Speakers anymore?. I can just hear a Slight sound out of the Headphones if i turn it up all the way? Cant seem to locate the fault. Please any assistance would be Greatly appreciated 😅
It's so easy to take for granted what we have today. This is such a great conversation between some amazing people, you can really hear their passion through their experiences and just hearing what they had to do to get the best sound. Thank you for sharing this.
What an interesting interview. Thank you for sharing this.
Amazing how quickly he got that sound together. What a master class!! I could watch 12 hrs of this straight...
Studio legend ...!

Love the armchair engineers acting like Eddie Kramer doesn’t know what he’s doing or talking about.
Right? lol
@@JordonBeal Armchair engineer here! Actually, I just pointed out how unnecessary the plywood was on a wood floor. It seems like that would be logical to anyone with any gray matter. Even a semi-intelligent person would know that you can disagree with, or not understand why someone did something, and still respect them. Now, speaking of "armchair engineers", I noticed that your glasswallstudio website has expired. Does that mean you're just one of us now?
A man's man this guy was at the ground floor of rock and roll creation.
I have immense respect for Steve Martin - he’s an engineer with a sales aptitude - I’ve only met one other person like that -
That's a really good way to put it.
i feel so fucking lucky just to witness this! thank you for this, thank you algorithm.
Eddie is a master of audio
I thought Kramer was not into this modern pingpong ball muffled tunnel bassdrum sound but i was wrong. Many artists and people of 60's moved on with the times and it's now only us fans who are "stuck in the past". I find it ironic that he's talking about adding reverb but is taking it away at the same time. Bassdrum mics bleed adds more room to the sound
I feel like the plywood sitting on a wood floor, in order to get more "reflective surface", was unnecessary. It's a wood floor..
Ads reflective surfaces, then proceeds to muffle the drum with blanket and added weight...
@@sinenkaari5477 🤣
What was the last all time classic album you made? Thought so.
@@siriusfun Don't wet your panties sweetie, I was spitting common sense. You're being emotional.
@@siriusfun Don't get emotional sweetie, I was spitting logic. Did you know that you can actually disagree with someone and still respect them? Didn't think so.
Bollocks.
Those beautiful mics cost more then my house 😮
OK, you got me trying to figure out the value of your house.. here goes.. 1: Is house recent purchas?. 2: Is your value on the mics at todays price or back in the day cost? But first consider this.. in 1982/3 I bought a Neuman K53 and K54 plus power supplies (ex DECCA studio, when digital was begining) for.. wait for it.. £15 each (less than $20 each)... just curious as to what year you'd value the mics vs house.. Yeah, I couldn't help it 🤣
My tape is formatted, but the display seems stuck on "DATA/LEADER" and I can't get it to show me a time code, therefore the record function won't work. Reading the manual seemed to say that using "set locate - 0, 1, or 2" should do that, but it doesn't work. Or worked once then stopped. Any ideas?
Gee I wonder how long ago this was recording? and I wonder if Eddie was recording in Studio C because that is where CCR recorded Mardi Gras and John Fogerty's solo album The Blue Ridge Rangers Album.
Its from the mid 1990s I use to have this video it was about 3 hours long when I first got into recording as a teenager, I think the full video is call Adventures In Modern Recording.
Nice video! Thanks for posting!
I'm not really qualified to say, but I think Steve Martin is probably a true genius. In the traditional sense as well as comedically. ( and I can't even spell.)
I went to Disneyland on the first day it opened, because my mother worked there. She was hired before opening day as a pastel portrait artist on Main Street. So, while my two younger brothers stayed at home with the babysitter in Santa Ana, I rode with my mom to work where I would take her employee badge, hang it around my neck and I had free run of the park. I thought it was funny that Steve Martin must have been not much older than me at the time, because he was hired to sell guide books. Later years, I was hired at the Disneyland Hotel as a waiter, and that was when I found out that Disneyland and Walt Disney himself did not hire people for a job, but rather cast people basically as actors to play whatever part that might be. One might wear Cinderella's costume, others would don The costumes of various Disney characters, such as Donald duck Mickey mouse etc. I impressed Walt Disney with my perfect imitation of Donald Duck, which I could still do. On my 8th birthday, Walt Disney himself gave me a personal tour of the park, showed me his private apartment above the firehouse, and let me " steer" the Mark Twain riverboat. There was a choreograph scene going on with Zorro being chased by Sergeant Garcia across the roof of the riverboat, which culminated in Zorro pushing him off into the "river".
1994. I have the double vhs of this.
Thanks so much for this upload, brother! 😁
This is the best interview of Steve Martin I’ve ever heard. I really miss Charlie Rose. I really dislike cancel culture, but if he did despicable things, then I guess he merited getting booted.
Would be nice if the latency would not be so bad, and if you could register it if you buy it secondhand.. ( yes i made that stupid mistake, and am stuck now with a almost useless interface box …😢😢)
I’ve boycotted his comedy ever since “ cat handcuffs “ I love animals
Congratulations, hero.
@@allendracabal0819 it’s a joke genius..
@@paulferranti8536 Good one.
Thank you so much for uploading this!!
I'm shocked how bad the high gain channel sounds. Just horrible.
its only in this video. i own this amp since, i dont know, 10 years and it is awesome. its very flexible, so you can also dial in bad tones. and keep in mind, this video was recorded more than15 years ago... home recording technique was not as great as nowadays... if this amp is good enough for troy van leeuwen, its good enough for you too probably ;)
I found a used one, but I can't assign input 3 to track 1 and input 4 to track 2. Is this possible?
The Jerk is a masterpiece.
I always hated the way Charlie did interviews. He would ramble on then answer his own questions. Steve slapped him down with the, “They moved it?” As if Charlie’s interjection mattered. Turns out Chuck had other controlling behaviors. I like these interviews where they edit out Charlie, some anyway, good job.
That's not why Steve said that. He was (mildly) embarrassed because he didn't correctly remember what state Vanderbilt was in, so he made that joke to pretend to cover for his mistake.
@@allendracabal0819 Charlie sucks
Seeing Conway or Loretta always brings a smile to my face Love their energy they have truely blessed country music.
Steve has since this interview done a comedy road trip with Martin Short and the well written and performed Only Murders in the Building, when wondering here where his career may progress.
Amazing
Would be great if tascam at least put some loc button's on the dp24/32 ?
This would be great if it worked with my iPad.
THE GREATEST LEGEND OF ENGINEERS! THE GUY WORKED ON THE GREATEST ALBUMS IN HISTORY, HENDRIX, LED ZEPPELIN, ROLLING STONES, ETC....AND, HE MASTERDED THE WOODSTOCK FESTIVAL! FUCK OFF...THE GUY IS A LEGEND.....😂
I feel fortunate to live in an Era where great comedians like Steve ( a great man ) Ive been privileged to see first hand. 💎
People need to consciously, pro-actively acknowledge that these gods of our time are still here. Steve is alive. And good lord imagine how much love is gonna come out of the woodwork when he passes. He’s here now people. (Referring to people who aren’t watching Steve Martin stuff and all things 70s80s90searly2000s ye ye represent.
Before I had the money to buy one, I picked up 4 copies of the Roland User's Group which each had an indepth tutorial about the VS-880. I was literally up and running within 10 minutes. I'd been reading those (the magazine in general. Not those tutorials) since high-school. So many memories
Don't wait to believe in Lord Jesus, we don't know when God takes us away and the opportunity for grace can become lost forever! It is only through faith in Jesus Christ and repentance that we can enter those Pearly Gates. (John 14:6, Acts 4:12)
Which verse is it where your god drowned babies because he didn’t like the parents?
Those conditions sound remarkably like something a man would come up with when devising a religion. No genuine supreme being would be so petty.
