We have not been doing much touring lately so I have done a few vids around our home town of Newcastle. I inherited an Exway electric skateboard which makes for a smooth ride around some of the city and beaches.

I would delete the billy and put in a good UHF radio and a set of towing mirrors

just wondering about point 3, the gas fridge. My experience (selling and using them since the early 80's) has always been that on gas they can "maintain" the existing temps... maybe. (if it's tropical north hot... forget it). We're renovating our off road van now and dumped the 3 way fridge for a 12v/240v only. 600w of solar and 300ah of lithium keep it running a treat.

Never had an issue with the fridge. We had a shade cloth to cover it when it was super hot. Car battery ran it when traveling. Might have been better insulated then most or just lucky

Yeah the weight thing is an issue. We got a professional weigh in this week on our new caravan and vehicle. It’s good to know we’ll be travelling safely and legally. One thing to know also is that if you plan to just fill one tank to decrease weight or travel with empty tanks, if you do have an accident, it’s always assumed by the police and insurer that you have full water tanks and a full fuel tank, even if they’re not full while you were travelling. And if this calculation puts you overweight, your insurance will be void and you’ll be liable for damage or injury to others.

We recently got a GVM upgrade on the Van, added 300kg to what could be carried in the van. Cause it was a new-ish van(2 years old) a vehicle engineer could make an inspection and increase the GVM without any work being done. $400 = and extra 300kg. Worth a look

Hey guys, I know this video is a. Year old. But if you haven't already, please remove your gas bottle out of the canopy. It must be in its own bracketing outside of the vehicle. Safety and rules they love to throw at us.

One of the best tips I ever got to help combat one of the unholy trinity of the long distance truckie, ( you're always tired, you're always hungry and you're always dirty ) is to get a large commercial size plastic bucket with a lockable, secure lid. Secure it to somewhere on or in your truck or caravan and use it as a washing machine. Put your dirty clothes in it, add water and laundry detergent, put the lid on and hit the road, Jack! The constant motion of your vehicle will do a great job of washing your clothes. After an hour or two of driving, wring out your clothes, add fresh water, chuck the clothes back in for a for a few more miles of rinsing and- job done! I used to carry about a 20 foot length of small diameter rope as a clothes line and a small bag of pegs. I can't remember a time when I couldn't find something to tie one end of that rope to after I had secured it to some part of the truck. One last tip; so called 'cold water' powdered detergents are no match for cold water liquid detergent, so don't waste your time with the powder. Blokes I worked with thought I was bit nuts carrying a bucket and clothes line and pegs around with me, but guess whose truck cab and dog box DIDN'T smell like sweaty, unwashed arm pits!

Ditch the hammer as well, use the back of the tomahawk, and you can get 12v chargers for your laptop, there are a few different kinds.

Remember that YOU and the family have to be in the vehicle when it's being weighed. ie you are part of the payload.

Are you towing whilst recording this? If so you are towing against the law. You have no towing mirrors on your tow vehicle. Just sayin. No3. Do not under any circumstances run your fridge on gas whilst towing. In saying that if you try to run your fridge on gas with your caravan anything but level you will fail.

Great attempt at a subject done by many others in the past. I encourage you to try to make a living from this. Invest in some good video equipment including a drone camera and editing software, and sell your stories. Have a great time traveling.

When calculating the pay load for the Colorado, you are correct in taking into account Bull Bar, passengers etc but the most important weight you didn't mention is Ball Weight. For example, if your measured ball weight is 200kg you must add that to the weight of the car.
