Colby Tire Valve vs Kubota B26: How I Turned 1 Minute Into 45 (16 Month Recap at End)
Trying out a Colby valve for the first time. Of course the job did not take the ONE MINUTE as printed on the package. More like 45 minutes. But it was a learning experience anyways! (The end has a brief review after 16 months of use!)

Pavement Ends Channel = Back roads, dirt roads, gravel roads, old mule train trails. As long as we're off the freeways. It's almost like van life or RV life, but with without the van or the RV. It's really SUV living. Or as I call it, The Campmobile. Videos could include driving, camping, campfires, camp cooking, hiking, fishing, testing gear, building something handy for the Campmobile or the campsite. But whatever it is, it usually involves remote scenery, off grid, off the beaten path, away from the crowds. Some people call this dispersed camping, or remote camping, with an overlanding theme. But since the word "overland" has seen so much "overuse" lately, I'm going way back to my roots. It's just "car hiking." I don't care if you're a fan of the 4Runner, FJ Cruiser, Jeep, GMC or the NY Mets... we're all out here to have fun and enjoy our great outdoors; to soak up the beauty of the back roads!

Plowing Snow: Kubota L275 Turns 40! B26 sits this one out.

The ol' L275 handled the snow today, while the B26 stayed parked. The L275 has been in the family since 1983, and I first operated it when it was new 40 years ago! Most of the time in the highest gear (with engine at 2,000-2,200 RPM) because the snow really peels off that blade the faster I go. But up hills or seriously deep drifts, I drop it into the middle gear. (This B26 with HST transmission.)

His family owns the old American house stage coach stop on Trumble Ranch that you can see the driveway to his land at 18:07-18:47 . He has not physically been able to travel there or enjoy this drive since 2013. It brought tears to my eyes listening to how my great grandmother took this route by stagecoach in 1909. he kept saying i hope we don't run out of gas before we get to the property. Are you pretty happy overall with the purchase of the B 26? Recently sold my SVL 75 compact track loader. My property is essentially done and now it’s just fine-tuning. I can see the need for some PTO work in the future snow removal needs and some other things, I don’t want to get a BX series because they’re way too slow and not all that capable in my opinion.

    • @PavementEndsOverland
      @PavementEndsOverland 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Overall I'm pretty impressed with what I can do with it. And while it seems more robust than my neighbor's BX of similar size, it still feels less durable than my old '83 L275; lots of plastic and stickers. (I'm chipping away on a new video listing my likes/dislikes but working way too much lately!) The backhoe is substantially better and faster than my neighbor's too, but I use mine for work so it's definitely paying for itself.

      @@PavementEndsOverland Not to my knowledge. I had heard that the Masons have some kind of meeting there. When I was there, it seemed to be likely true, as there were bleachers there and what looked like some sound equipment for a sound system. @@PavementEndsOverland A lot of the lava flow tubes are now closed with locked gates, I think Arnold Ice Cave, Wind Cave and Skeleton Cave. Back in the early 1960s, we used to love trekking as far back as you could go. Arnold Ice Cave had a wall of ice near the bottom of the steps. Some years, the ice was almost up to the handrails of the steps. We'd rope our way down. The closure to the caves, as you said, was primarily because of vandalism. Some caves, so it's been claimed, is that the caves are used by bats. I don't think I've ever seen any bats in the caves I've been through, but I did see a tiny owl looking at me. Skeleton Cave was so named because the bones of an ancient bear were found there. Wind Cave has a hole in the roof of the cave. You could feel the wind inside the cave. The chamber inside (where the hole is) was lit up from daylight making it look amazing. It's a pity a how handful of people can ruin such an experience for everyone else.

    R14 tires may have provided better results in the snow. No issues on my LX2610. Since you have the R4s, siping/grooving the lugs has proven quite and improvement on those tires.

      I think you're right, but my biggest issue is the slick ice that forms after everybody keeps driving on it before I get there. My older tractor does have the better tires, but the ice defeats them too! Good point to discuss in a future video, thank you!
