Hey Kate, great vlog and thanks for sharing! Your Tahoe journey gave me flash backs to when I had to take furlough from my corporate life and had decided to solo and camp around. Lake Tahoe was my second to last destination before SF and eventually back to AZ. I think I’m long overdue for another roadtrip! Emerald bay has such an amazing view of the lake, so great choice. FYI, if you do it again, on the very tip of the peninsula/eagle point and on top of that hill, there’s a picnic table. It makes for a great breakfast stop. It’s through a campsite so unless there’s someone that knows about it, it’s pretty secluded. Safe travels and keep sharing! Your AZ neighbor, E.

This was wonderful, thank you. I found your channel by searching car-camping with a Mazda 3, as I hope to take a hiking/camping trip in the Western US. These videos are also helpful and inspiring, as I've stayed in the Midwest/Eastern US thus far. (I used to encounter Pokemon trainers when I first started hiking, which was fun). I'm glad your phone is okay. If it helps, I charge my old iPhone and stick it in my backpack when traveling as an emergency backup. Even without a sim, I could call 911 (with a signal). And yes, we can all be a little kinder. Thanks again.

The area you hiked to looks so peaceful and quiet. My heart dropped when your phone fell. I am looking into finding hiking pants with zippered pockets because my phone fell out on a recent backpacking trip too but luckily just fell in sand. I’m new to backpacking so if you have any recommendations for pants or can talk about clothing you wear backpacking (and why), I’d love to know. I love the comparison to Pokémon 😂 you’re so right! I also bring little pads to wipe my face and parts of my body. It’s so nice to use them and when I offer it to friends, they are happy that I brought them ❤

As isolated as you hike, you should purchase a satellite emergency locator device. They aren’t that expensive. You log in and enter your hiking plan (or boating, etc) and they know if it goes off it’s not accidental. If you fell and broke a femur or something bad, and had no cell service (or dropped your phone in a lake, ha ha), you could summon the help you need. Seriously, please look in to getting one. I’m 59, and really enjoy your videos.

Hello Kate! So glad I stumbled on to this video, and I appreciate you sharing your important insights. Even at 64, I love the personal insights that come through backpacking in the Sierra! It is such a magical place. Life unfolds in mysterious ways; and no doubt your generation is facing different challenges than what mine faced, and the time you are taking to find a path that is true to you will make all the difference. I hope to watch more of your posts!

Good ol' existentialism, melancholy, and hope. I did something drastic with my life recently by starting vanlife. Unlike most ppl, I didn't have anything to hold me down and I felt like I was going nowhere, so I bought a minivan, did my research, and drove a thousand miles to the west coast. It's been difficult adjusting to this lifestyle over the past three weeks, but I've been able to slowly turn this car into a home. I recently mounted 400 W of solar onto my roof rack and soon I'll be able to work online while boondocking on public lands. Keep chasing your dreams and enjoy the pursuit of happiness.

happy to see young women like you taking advantage of your youthful years and live your life to the fullest. do it while you are young and energy driven because one day you will get old and most of that energy will be gone. i am glad i did 6 month travel through 14 states and travel abroad and experienced all the beauty of nature. eventhough i did it at older age of 42, atleast i can say i try to live my life to the fullest for once in my life.
