Hi my late hubby came from kirkby, he lived on northfield lane, he grew up their. His name was william stringer but was called bill, so was his dad and his mum was called lily, he went to the school on northfield lane, then common road school, he was a bike nut lol. He told me many a tale abart his days growing up their. im not sure when he left the village but i know he was married to his first wife before he left, they went to live with her parents in bolton but he carried on working at kirkby pit untill he was transfered to thurnscoe pit and given an house. I know if he was still here he would have loved to watch this video.
