Combining graphene oxide with metal ions like copper or iron in a Fenton-like reaction can potentially amplify the deleterious effects due to increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), particularly hydroxyl radicals. These radicals are highly reactive and can cause extensive oxidative damage to cells and tissues. Here's how the combination of these elements can be particularly harmful: 1. **Enhanced ROS Production**: Graphene oxide can act as a catalyst in the presence of metal ions, leading to an increased rate of ROS production. This can overwhelm the body's natural antioxidant defenses, leading to oxidative stress. 2. **Cellular and Tissue Damage**: The hydroxyl radicals generated can attack important biomolecules, including lipids, proteins, and DNA. This damage can lead to cell death, inflammation, and can impair the function of various organs. 3. **Neurological Effects**: Oxidative stress in the nervous system can lead to neurodegenerative diseases. The brain is particularly vulnerable to oxidative damage due to its high oxygen consumption and abundance of easily oxidizable lipids. 4. **Impact on the Immune System**: Excessive ROS can impair the immune system, either by directly damaging immune cells or by disrupting signaling pathways. 5. **Potential Carcinogenic Effects**: DNA damage caused by ROS is a risk factor for mutations and cancer development. 6. **Environmental and Occupational Hazards**: The use of graphene oxide and metal ions in industrial and technological applications could pose environmental and occupational health risks if not properly managed. It's important to note that the extent of these effects depends on various factors, including the concentration of graphene oxide and metal ions, the duration of exposure, and the individual's overall health and genetic predisposition. Research in this area is ongoing, particularly concerning the safety and environmental impact of nanomaterials like graphene oxide.

The use of electroshock or ECT has proved brain injuries by the CA courts around devices used. No FDA testing for safety or effectiveness. Dr. Bennet Omalu famous for findings of CTE in the NFL is stating similar outcomes expected given repeated brain injuries from electrical trauma in this. Current national device suit taking place in US. 5 billion in revenues from this practice in the US alone. Cover ups and harm for decades taking place at leading facilities. Used for many mental health conditions now and no longer a last resort. Patients are showing damages on testing. Increase in suicide after use of ECT in patients can find little help to address damages currently. This is also being used on our children and Veterans. Electrical trauma can evolve years out to include onset of ALS and ongoing cardiac issues as well. Given the situation of Covid more patients will be at risk for being offered this so inform yourselves. See ectjustice site and life after ECT site. If you have had ECT please contact the DK law group in CA to see if you qualify for joining the device suit. Please share this information with others in particular on public social as major media protecting providers and facilities.

Very inspirational talk! This goes straight to my 'go to archive'. I especially like the collaborative spirit Prof. Casadevall promotes when you actually are competing for 'honor, recognition and money'. If only we could all think like that. This is a really important talk and I feel everyone working in the Biomedical research field should know about this. Really eye-opening. Although I don't think drastic changes will occur during my PhD time now, I hope to hear about changes in the future (even though most likely I won't be in academics anymore, due another internal academic problem: not enough positions for a growing number of graduates...). The future is bright, nonetheless!
