Ball and plate 3-DOF device
Just completed experimental device for simulation and teaching of double PID control, sensing, filtering and signal processing from a resistive touch panel and servo-positioner kinematics control with 3 degrees of freedom.
The steel ball can be positioned arbitrarily on the surface of the touch panel, while its position is scanned, processed and stabilized in real time 200 times per second.
You can also select default modes, such as drawing a square, circle, figure eight, or hypotrochoid pattern.
With the joystick it is possible to influence the system and thus change the direction, speed and radius of movement of the ball.
The PID controller is set to respond quickly to dynamic interference (intentional deflection of the ball from its position) and to respond slowly to static interference (tilting the base).
Main system components:
- Arduino DUE
- 5-wire 12,1" resistive touch screen
- 3 servos Hitec HS-5485HB
- set of machined parts
- set of electrical standard parts

0:10 I wonder how the robot knows exactly how long the drill bit is so that it can rotate around while keeping the tip in the same position? Is this measured manually by the operator and programmed into the robot? Or does the robot measure it by itself?
It's called tool centerpoint, and it's programmed into the robot! There are different methods of teaching it to the robot with varying degrees of accuracy, but for a tool that just sticks straight out from the center of the faceplate of the robot, you can generally just measure the length of the tool from the faceplate to the tip and give that distance to the robot.
