Noise was reduced by spacing the agitator with a washer (the other kind) and the noise has mostly gone away now, presumab...

You have a very very very dirty engine for that to happen. Also the bypass would kick in on the filter when the filter got clogged
Has anyone tried this oil on their BMW? It does not meet the specs required in the BMW N52 engine, but I really want to switch to this. I’m right now on Liquimoly Toptec
quick question, do you know if its possible to only remove the dashboard? cuz the one in my focus is in pretty rough shape and i want to take it out and re paint it, but it appears to be bolted moreon the rightside than the left side
Comments across YT are interesting. Mobil 1 has been cleaning engines for years. Ive seen "miracles" happen to old engines switched to M 1.
Sludge develops because the oil never gets hot enough to dry out. Short trip cars get cruddy. Highway cars stay clean. BTW, I use Ford oil heaters/coolers thatvhook intonthe heater hose, used from @1990 police cars. Heats and cools the oil with 200* coolant. = No sludge.
media // singular medium /// plural
I’m not sure if the filter going into bypass is a big deal while cleaning. Once the engine is clean, it will not need to bypass.
Thinking of using this oil for our 2016 Subaru Outback with 130k miles. Burns a little oil between 6k changes. Next oil change I won’t replace the filter, only the oil. Drive it for sometime, then replace everything normally. Thoughts?
I only use purolator pure one oil filters sines the 90’s. They are good for 10,000 miles. Now they say 15,000, but never go over 10,000. I use quality oil , Mobil 1, pennzoil, Val online,, or castrol, whichever is on sale. I change oil only every 3,000, then do a filter/oil change. Got 294,600 on my 2006 scion xa. The engine runs like I just bought it. Changed valve cover gasket, at 264,000 miles, and engine was clean. No gunk, nothing. Maybe this new caviling will clean out your gunk, I don’t realy know. Moral…. If you own a newer car and do your own oil changes, don’t go over 4,00 miles and more important then the oil is the oil filter. Try it. My car is good for another 50,000, 60,000 miles more or even more. Just some good advise from an old hot Rodger gear head.
The fram filter you used has a bypass valve built in. Why didn't it work? Does the ford not make enough oil pressure to open the bypass? Many of the ford engines I've encountered have a dummy style oil pressure guage that is actually just a snap switch indicator above a very low pressure that shows the exact same "pressure" as long as it's above the trigger pressure.
A video testing filters showed Fram filters are some of the highest on oil flow restrictiveness. Caused issues on my older car too that went away when I switched brands.
@cjbarber16 Most fram filters are trash. I looked up the exact filter he used on fram's website, and it has a bypass valve built it... so, when the filter material gets clogged, the internal bypass opens and allows the oil to flow to prevent engine damage. I'm curious how the Ford he was referring to didn't make enough oil pressure to open the bypass.
I'm curious what the maintenance history is on the Ford... i.e. oil type used, oil change intervals, driving conditions...
I just changed my moms Suburban over to the R&P 5w30 to try it out. The engine is overall clean inside, I've had to the valve covers off before, but it also has Active Fuel Management so I wanted to use it mainly to keep the valley pan and lifters clean to prevent DOD lifter collapse. Hopefully I dont have issues with plugged up filters.
Thank you sir, totally fixed my problem with my daughter's 07 mustang 4.0l automatic 5r55s transmission. Couldn't get the torque converter to seat and after watching your video, bingo. Victory after 3 hours of playing with it!! Thank you so much for sharing!! Absolutely amazing!!
1st mistake never use Fram oil filters , worst filters on the market , total junk
I temporarily tried out Fram filters and stopped when a new noise started. Went back to what I was using and the noise went away. A video testing filters showed Fram filters are high on oil flow restrictiveness. This led me to believe it was the cause of the noise.
my son picked up an 88 Ford F350 with a huge 7.5l gasoline engine. That thing was melting starter solenoids left and right. I am not a mechanic so I had difficulty figuring out what was happening. Replaced/added ground connections, replaced all the main power cables from the battery to the starter, etc. Pulled the starter and had it tested twice at Autozone. Replaced the alternator. Replaced the battery. Kept melting solenoids endlessly. Eventually, on a whim, and while laying in a gas station parking lot, I swapped out the starter. this solved the issue. That truck was nothing but a money pit. Cost a ton of gas money to run it, and I felt like I was under it/in the engine compartment at least twice a week. Finally, I convinced my son to get rid of it.
How many miles on that Ford engine to accumulate such sludge?
Good info about the Valvoline product, sorry about the hard break, not oil related failure...just giving my 2 cents of info. Good luck
The sludge will clog up the oil puck up screen as it solidify as the engine cools, one can do another cheap "oil" with maybe a qyartof trans fluid right after. And yes use a new filter, immediately after to hopefully remove that loose gummy sludge. Oil pickup screens get coated, and can clog up the pickup screen, letting your engine have low to no oil pressure. This is why it was noisy. Oil starvation. If very dirty ad shown, the other engine that got noisy may have got lucky, hopefully the sludge was not too tough. The best way to clean an engine is a tear down-clean- then replace worn parts and go back. Or fo it over time with high detergent oil several low Mike oil and filter changes.. nothing beats keeping the oil changed early. Maintain your vehicle to the way you use it.
What about on brand new engines?
Do you examine the oil filter at every change? How do you know the bypass was engaged (if oil filter was so clogged)? I used this on my 2013 highlander at 187,000 miles with 7K on the Valvoline restore and protect. Prior to this I always used Mobil 1 synthetic and changed around 9K miles. I experienced nothing like this. Of course filter was dirty but nowhere near this sludge. Ever use PEA to clean your injectors?
Makes me wonder what oil brand was being used in the engine beforehand because apparently it’s not very good if it turned all sludgy. I probably can’t use it in my engine as I have a Chevy and it does not say dexos on the bottle
Why doesn't this work with extended cab models?
I did my oil change using that valve restoring protect Mazda 2012 six change the filter at 1500 miles I noticed it was very heavy compared to before other oil changes I did to it. I change the filter and let it ride for another 2000 miles and then change the oil and filter completely and new Valvoline oil and protect. I will let it ride for another 5000 miles and then change the filter. I did notice that the last filter change in oil. It was still good. I did not do oil analysis like I usually do but I will on the next I do recommend
I am a die hard valvoline person I change oil and filter every 3000 miles. I buy the oil and filter ar wally world and do it myself. Both of my vehicles are high milage I use valvoline high mileage synthetic. It would ne interesting to run this oil for 1 3000 mile run. My gmc truck has 175000 miles uses 5w30 uses a few ounces between changes honda fit 185000 miles uses 5w20 this car has NEVER used any oil ibrecently adjusted the valves and installed new Denso coils and plugs runs better than new. Both Valvoline only
Glad you made a video on these. I was surprised with my hyperusa purchase too
fram bro??
What in the world kind of oil was in the Ford before? Just change your filter very often when running restore and protect.
LOL dislike report and unsubscribe
Do yourself a favor don’t buy Fram oil filters they are garbage
I run RR on both my vehicles: 140k miles 16 Ford explorer 3.5 eco, 185k miles 08 Acura RL. I just changed my second RR oil yesterday and will cut those filters open tomorrow morning. 🤞 that it's not clogged . Side nodes: Don't know if it's coincidence but I noticed MPG drop on the 3.5 Ecoboost, the Acura feels like it lost some power but then it also has catalytic converter issue (p0420 code).
Well, the good news is, my oil filter is on the top of the engine and can be removed without losing any oil. So, I am going to use this "Restore" oil and I can check my filter at 500 or 1500 miles and I can even simply replace it a couple of times before changing the oil again. But I am going to try it on my G.D.I. engine
Can someone give me an advice my 2023 subaru outback touring is 40k miles, i want to start using this restore and protect. How many miles before i should change my filter or is my car already clogged up after 40k miles
How often have you changed your oil so far? There's almost no chance of any significant buildup in 40,000 miles unless it's been seriously, seriously neglected. The Ford with the clogged filter in the video was neglected AND had over 200,000 miles.
100% agree with replacing oil filters very frequently when running anything that mentions "cleaning" on the label! Thanks for taking apart the filters.
Thats not orange...
Owner already running green and that's what they wanted to keep rolling with.
Incredible video!
I maintain regular oil changes should maintain your engine , I change mine every 5000miles using quality oil.
Could there be such a test between this and Marvel's Mystery Oil? That would be interesting.
Possibly, and I wouldn't be surprised if cleaning results were similar. My understanding is that the big advantage of R&P over stuff like MMO is that, with MMO, you're diluting the oil and sacrificing some degree of lubrication and viscosity in exchange for better cleaning. That might be rough on engines that are particularly sensitive about the oil being used. Whereas R&P is built from the ground up as an aggressively cleaning oil that still fits all the other attributes of a given grade of oil.
@@A_Toolbag Excellent point!
I wonder if you can just do a piston soak with the Restore and Protect to free up sticky Rings?
I wouldn't think so. There's a big difference between between letting it sit on top of a piston vs letting it work over the course of a few thousand miles, with the aid of heat, pressure, and movement. I have no doubt that stuff like B-12 or Sea Foam clean better than R&P if raw cleaning power is all you're measuring, and so they would do much better as a piston soak. You just don't want to use those as motor oil. And changing your oil and hitting the road is way easier and less disruptive to the vehicle owner's schedule than doing a proper piston soak.
@@A_Toolbag I may buy a quart and soak a few parts and see if it does anything. I soaked some spark plugs with Vinager and it stripped the coating off in one day, crazy.
Is it safe to use this oil long term or is it meant to be used only temporarily to clean the engine? I saw some amazing reviews on Amazon.
I don't think we'll know that for certain until it's been out long enough for a large variety of real-world vehicles to have been running it full time for a number of years. If a rash of complaints from long-term users comes out in 5 years or so, we'll know. If not, it's probably fine. I don't anticipate any problems, but you don't know until you know.
@@A_Toolbag good point 👍
So do i need to use this oil my car has 10,000 miles on it i change my oil always at 5,000 miles oil looks very clean on dip stick i dont there is much sludge 😊
I wouldn't even start to worry about that until it gets well past 50,000 miles, unless you start burning oil or if the engine is known for sludge or piston ring issues.
I used a liqui moly engine flush for the sludge, first. Ran it for 15 minutes. No filter issues and no oil pressure warnings using Valvoline R+P.
If you use this oil AND you change the filter, let’s say after 300 miles, then another 300, and another 300, then once more. What’s the worst that could happen besides the cost of the filters?
I can't think of any problems that would cause. Just keep the oil topped up to account for what is lost when changing the filters.
I have a 2013 subaru BRZ with 98k miles with regular oil changes every 5k miles. What are the chances that my filter will clog up like that? I don't think you mentioned how many miles are on the Ford or if I just missed it but I would assume it has more miles then my car and that I should be fine. Whats do you think?
210,000 miles on the Ford, and maintenance history was inconsistent. I would be very surprised if yours had issues at that mileage and with good maintenance history.
@@A_Toolbag Thanks man, I figured it would be fine but you gave me the peace of mind. Great video!
That oil is amazing awesome where has it been all my life I used it first 2 days I noticed a lifter knock go away change it earlier for the first 3 to 4 oil changes because if like me u have build up it will be nasty to me now it's the best oil on the market and I used a lot of them they varnish and gum up except royal purple it's ok also but I am amazed at this oil change you're filter 3 x in between oil changes if you Don't want to change oil I did that too
R&P should come with a sticker saying change the filter after the first 500-1000 miles recommended. No one wants to rely on the bypass valve in that oil filter. Valvoline claims after 3 oil changes the cleaning part of their technology should be about done. I would be curious to know two things from reviewers when experimenting with the R&P product. (1) pull the valve cover and see how much if any sludge & varnish is on the engine at the beginning of the test. There are so many variables and engine conditions to make an oil claim about any one engine. Like did it start clean or did it look like chocolate cake icing all over the place. And (2) cut open oil filters and examine them (ideally an oil analysis would be great) until the third oil change. In theory the last filter change should be much cleaner than the first.
Just replaced my bearing and my seal 3-4 months ago and Now I’m leaking diff oil again this video did give great info thank you sir will be replacing them tomorrow 👍
How'd it go?
@ drove about 6 1/2 hours and no leaks so I think it went well
Can i use motocraft filter on my f150 with this valvoline oil?
Motorcraft filters are great, I wouldn't expect any issues from that.
Brand Rank or Rank Brand did real life simulation on the filters and seeing the flow rate combined with filtration, i went back to Wix XP, the mobil1 extended performance was decent too. Fram's better filtering filters seem to do poorer in terms of oil flow.
Brand Ranks is awesome, loved the testing methodology when I first saw them. I need to catch up on their videos.
I ran just one quart, and it cleaned it. Not all the oil was clean and restore used it as an additive and worked well for me..
