In the movie continuity GUN commander's replacement (don't remember her name, but you all talked about her briefly) seems to have some antagonistic leanings, but I don't know if that's really going anywhere.

The setup they did for the next movie is in no way shape or form more exciting than Shadow. They are going to need to bring in some additional appeal if they want to bring in the same audience.

19:20 Spoilers for the ending of Sonic 3: They used all their remaining rings in this movie. Knuckles used the last ring to save Sonic and Tails from plummeting to their deaths. If this remains consistent in the next movie, they are effectively trapped on Earth now, with no chance of going anywhere. Unless Amy has her own bag of rings, but we still don't know how she arrived on Earth.

One thing that wasn't mentioned that made me laugh is that Maria canonically played live and learn on guitar for shadow at some point. Idk why but it was such an absurd moment when in a sad flashback she's diagetically playing acoustic cover of a hype battle theme.

I think the biggest problem with the sonic movie franchise is that thay were clearly made for 8 year olds but thay should be for 12 year olds

In all honesty, they could probably do fairly well without Jim Carry considering from what I observed, it’s not his part that drew kids in; and he wasn’t exactly being like Eggman.

You know, I think Riku getting changed back after the explosion was due to the hearts Ansem had tried to turn into data. So, I used to always think that Ansem was trying to destroy Kingdom Hearts. The beam of light that was sent to Kingdom Hearts was an attempt to basically blow it up. Is that what they were saying in the cutscene? No, but it's how I took it. But you talking about it basically being a transfer - he was trying to take the hearts in Kingdom Hearts and place them in his machine - kind of made me really rethink everything. Ansem was trying to take the hearts and encode them into data and because hearts are unpredictable, the machine couldn't possibly do it. So it exploded. So, if all of those hearts just exploded out of that machine, what could it do to Riku, who had awashed himself in the power of darkness? It's almost like the hearts purified him. It's still wishy-washy mumbo jumbo but that's the kind of stuff that can still make sense in this world of Kingdom Hearts with all of its lore about the power of hearts. But you know, I kind of feel really stupid for completely misinterpreting what Ansem was doing in the 17 years since I first played this game. What on earth was I thinking?

I hate horror/suspense in general for a number of reasons, so I would have never been interested to find out anything about this game. But Jacob isn't scared. He and Joey have to discuss FF Yaoi, Bionicle lore, or whatever else comes up. The Dark Presence is quite silly now, jiggling gates and making the clouds go fast and I can enjoy Alan Wake's story comfortably. You might say Jacob and Joey's commentary breaks immersion or ruins the mood sometimes, I call it an accessibility feature.

Speaking of the Sonic Forces modding scene, there’s this neat mod that basically acts as an epilogue to Forces! Featuring remixed stages and music, an original story, voice acting, and storyboard-styled cutscenes. I’ve only heard great things about it, so checking it out might be fun if y’all ever have the time and interest. EDIT: completely forgot to say its name, oops. It’s Sonic Forces: Overclocked.

Takes a minute to get used to, but its one of the most unique battle systems ive ever seen with tonnes of hidden tech I believe the music was composed by the same guy who did the Gravity Rush OST aswell PS. Signalis addendum that nobody will read but I’m doing it anyway. For some reason the console version didn’t get the two updates that came later on PC. These updates reworked the inventory system (like having the flashlight not take up a slot) and added story clarifications, particularly added one or two notes that clarify the missing puzzle piece aspect I talked about

This lp was fun thanks for doing it. Ff16 was ok to me 6/10 or 7 great music, great voice acting, fun gameplay, down side no elemental effect / damage jill being done pretty dirty , no real party members

Since you’ve seen Kyle Bosman’s Delayed Input Series. Have you seen Box Peak he wrote and did the cardboard art for it when he part of Easy Allies. It’s a mostly a Bosman like rif on Boys Shonen from the early 2000’s.

Good luck Jacob with your move! It can be hard moving far away from where you grew up as an adult, but hope it goes smoothly and your are happy with it.

Jacob, you are so well-informed and tuned into the thinking of business people especially. It's impressive. I obviously already knew a lot of the stuff in this episode, but I still got a lot out of it. Oh, and like, yeah, I'm a bit yapper too. I know exactly how you feel about being self-conscious about that shit sometimes... But you're really so well-prepared, and researched, and are good at doing this stuff. For this particular ep, one way this would've obviously been cut down though is less tangents and full history delves on things (such as Eve or fortnite, maybe), but the whole podcast was great, so I certainly don't mind. The whole thing did have a logical through-line and structure.

So excited for the next episode ;)

Yeah, Eva and Otakuism really is a double-edged sword. It's a deconstruction of many things... And we all loved it, and many people only half absorbed the points. It's hard for such a wonderful anime to not deepen your love of anime anyway. I wanna mention too, as far as some personal feelings go, I don't exclusively hold Eva up so highly just cause it's deep or anything. It is, and it handles its characters very well. But I think what I appreciate most still is the directing and general construction of the series. It's extremely well executed as a story and show, and it's just a ton of fun to watch.

Maybe you talk about it more later, but there's a few more cool things that the Parry materia can do: - The parry animation has uninterruptable hyper armor and ignores grabs - On Cloud, parry doesn't drop punisher mode like regular dodge roll does - On the PS4 version characters are much slower at cancelling attack animations into a block, but a roll and a parry can cancel them much earlier, and since parry functions as a block, it allowed for more reactive blocking. However, this was changed with the PS5 upgrade (and for Rebirth) which made blocking out of an attack just as fast as rolling and parrying.

I gotta be honest, I really couldn't care less for all the added fighting in this part of the remake. The Hellhouse was hilarious but wow being asked to fight more after it felt like padding. Though my excitement for what's coming probably has to do with my impatience 😅
