Recording with old friends - what a treat! This vid is a little insight to a couple days of tracking at Earthwork Recording (www.earthworkrecording.com) in Newark, OH owned and operated by my good friend, Tom Atha. Tom has been running this joint since the mid '00s and it just keeps getting cooler!
The project was for my good friend, Eric Ransom (www.ericransommusic.com). We've been playing music together for roughly 20 years and i jumped at the opportunity to record on his newest record. I mean, I would have recorded regardless, but knowing that it was going to be done at Earthwork and that another old friend, Jesse Henry (jessehenry.bandcamp.com/) would be producing, i literally moved my schedule around to make it happen!
The tune highlighted in the video is "Through the Night." A pretty unique experience with this tune - it started as a pretty standard "train beat" tune that we all knew and knocked out quickly, but then our producer challenged us with coming up with a feel that was more improvised and off the cuff. It came out pretty cool! As noted, the tune at the end is a rough mix - stay tuned for the mixed/mastered version when released later this year!
