But this is essentially my "home" ""mountain"", I picked up skiing only this winter, and I practically learned skiing there (doing snowboard now). These two resorts couldnt be harder to favor over the other. Whatever one slacks in, the other just does better and they're three miles apart so there's no point in favoring one over the other lol cause you can always just go to the other resort. My rule of thumb is if i go to canaan or timberline once, i must go to the other in the same season. Or just forget them, go to Snowshoe, and marathon cupp run all day😎

    • @AdventureLife365
      @AdventureLife365 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I also think you should go to both if you’re able to, but not everyone can do that. Snowshoe is a great idea, but it’s more expensive at the same time, so one of these cheaper mountains might be better for some people

  • @TeKnoVKNG23
    @TeKnoVKNG23 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    It's hard for me to pick one. Timberline is more expensive, but is an overall good experience if it isn't crowded. Timberline just gets way too crowded on Friday and Saturday, so I always try to hit them up midweek. Canaan is a bit more laid back, slower lifts, but you can generally have the trails to yourself to get ripping w/o having to worry about someone running into you or people standing around in the choke points of trails. If there's plenty of snow and the entire mountain is open, Canaan has always had better terrain and variety of terrain to ski and if you just want a fun day of skiing it's the place to go, but the issue is they don't have snow guns on half the mountain so that terrain is hardly ever open. Timberline is geared more toward intermediate/advanced and if I want to rip some black diamonds all day that's generally where I'll end up at. Thunderstruck, The Drop, and Off the Wall are some of the best tracks out east. Food and beverage I'd give the nod to Timberline, the owners have really put in some major investments in that place. Honestly I love both places, been skiing there for 30+ years at this point and that's why I always take a long mid-week trip so I can get in at least 2 days at both. I hope the State of WV gives Canaan some love at some point, because that place is a new lift and some more snow making capacity away from being a premier destination again like it was back in the 90s before Deep Creek got fully developed.

    • @AdventureLife365
      @AdventureLife365 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You definitely make a lot of good points, and I truly love both of these places! They’re both good in their own ways, and definitely midweek is better almost anywhere you ride for that “whole mountain to yourself” feel 👍 If West Virginia gave Canaan Valley a high speed lift and some more snowmaking capabilities that mountain would skyrocket with popularity.

    • @TeKnoVKNG23
      @TeKnoVKNG23 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AdventureLife365 Yeah that's the hope. I still remember the glory days back in the mid-late 90s. Before Deep Creek/Wisp area got super developed Canaan was the place to be, was always packed on the weekends and holidays, lots of restaurants and shops in the valley and it was a pretty cool place to hang out during ski season. Used to be big crowds/money in from the DC area especially, but then Deep Creek built all the putt putt courses, arcades, restaurants, etc. and kind of took over since there was so much to do outside of skiing there, and it was a bit more kid friendly. Canaan has always had that middle of nowhere/seclusion feel to it and once the people started going to the Wisp area more often the businesses all kind of dried up and then Covid really took what was left. It was sad to see when I made it back up a couple years ago and Big John's Family Fixings was closed down for good. That place had been running for 30+ years and had some great food. There was also another spot called Tucker's where you could go eat in the evenings and the black bears would come right up to the back windows. I believe it's now a Mama Mia's pizza chain store now in the little plaza with Ski Barn, but that whole entire spot right there used to have a ton of cool shops and places to eat. Hope it returns to some form of its former glory someday, but I still love going up to the area to get away for a few days, and it's clear at least the owners at Timberline are trying to bring it back a bit with the developments they have going on.

    • @AdventureLife365
      @AdventureLife365 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ya that sounds cool. I don’t know if it’ll return to its previous popularity, but it’s definitely worth visiting! So hopefully we get a good amount of snowfall this season to capitalize on its uniqueness ❄️❄️❄️

    Piggybacking off of what TwinSkiing said, the bike park is super great and has a huge variety of trails that can convince some to go there over Snowshoe. And for a niche portion of the population, the airport directly next to the resort is supper continent for people with small general aviation planes to access the resort. @Nathan-pm7rk 😂 you’ve got to be careful, practice the basics so you can control yourself (safer for you and everyone else), and I’m glad you had fun and stayed safe 👍

      @Nathan-pm7rk awesome to hear it! And that’s a great point, I never thought of skim boarding as a good cross over sport, but it makes sense!

      That’s fair, it’s definitely different than real snow and takes an adjustment period.. but is worth it to snowboard something this summer!
