I totally agree with you. I was forced to hug my father who was abusive when he was around and it made me feel disgusting every time.

My mom never made us hug or kiss anyone we didn't want to growing up. I went though a time where I didn't want anyone to kiss me or to give kisses. My mom would insist the family respect this. They got so mad. So weird.

It's so important to teach kids that they can make these choices. Honestly, how are they supposed to know the difference between a hug that makes them uncomfortable, and OTHER touch that makes them uncomfortable.

i am a survivor of CSA. i spent years being abused because I was too scared to speak up when his touches made me uncomfortable. if i hadn't been made to feel guilty for not wanting to be touched i would've been out of that situation a lot sooner. not only is allowing your child to set boundaries important for their adult life, but it can also be helpful in situations like this. thank you for being smart and a good parent :) ❤️

I've always been touch adverse. It only got worse over time as adults would hug me without asking or without giving me choices. As an adult, I do not have a relationship with those adults anymore. Just saying- you may be able to force hugs on kids, but they'll probably silently hate you after that. So if you're not swayed by basic human decency and consent, consider that aspect of it.

Like you as an adult have the emotional or should have the emotional maturity to go yeah my niece grandchild etc just isnt hug comfortable Today. Im not going to die by not getting a hug kiss touch from them. If you respect that boundary your far more likely to get given wanted hugs in the future because hey youve always respected my no's in the past.
