Nice landing 👍
Thanks!
I love that Diamond panel, I'm jealous! Most people don't bother but I really like you guys picking up flight following!
Thanks! I usually get flight following on my flights. So much safer.
Seems like the excess float was due to power being taken out so late, flare seemed properly timed with how gradual it was. Typically I’d be going towards idle upon crossing the trees, definitely idle above the threshold. Nice landing nonetheless! Speaking from my experience in the 40NG.
Thanks! I am working on a more stable approach at the correct speed then going idle. But those DA40's are so easy to manage in ground effect, right?
I fly out of PTK also.. looking to fly with pilots to split costs for x-country flying. Interested? Let me know, thanks
Yes, how can I reach you?
She really stretched out her call.
Yes she did, and when you're trying to listen to other aircraft's position, it's frustrating.
Fun
what are you using to interface your go pro with the radios?
You just need an NFlight audio adapter cable.
Final landing at 12:55, wasn’t hairy in the slightest, just slightly fast.
Hi! Got your email so I'm here! Great video, nice job on the edit. Here's your debrief. Remember - we don't have enough time or electrons to fully go over everything that you did excellent on (you had a ton of them) , so a good debrief covers an honest assessment of things that "might" have room for improvement. Here is my notes on what I saw: 1) @12:30 "I want to come in at 75" Your Vref is actually 61, which is 1.3 Vso The winds are calm, I would strive to show a stable approach on the PAPI at Vref to Vref plus 10. This would be 61-71 for a private pilot checkride according to the ACS. Can you fly faster? Yes - but that is what caused your prolonged flare and long float. 2) With calm winds and little turb, try holding the stick steady, instead of all the tiny little control movements. Constant pressure in the correct direction is always the goal. 3) Aim to land on the centerline. With zero wind, you could have made more effort to go back right before the flare. Nothing dangerous, we just like to see a recognition of the trend and some kind of effort to initiate correction. 4) After landing - avoid reaching for anything at high speed. In order, you went flaps up, then boost pump off, whci required eyes, brain, and limb involvement. The only job you have after landing is centerline and decelerate. 5) The next item that you did was landing light off, which was to your left. Notice your body position leaning left, and the fact that the airplane went left when you leaned left? 6) Then the window. Leave your window and all unnecessary congratulations type conversations until you are clear and stopped. Then do anything you want. You asked about some help for your channel, I will make you a deal! Go out and make a second video, same airport, same passenger, same runway. Now fly it and do it right, pointing out the things that you learned from the debrief and how you altered your flying just a tad based on a debrief. THAT would make an excellent educational video, and when if you publish that as info that any pilot can use, I will be glad to feature that video in my channel and it will for sure get you some subs! TH-cam is all about how to and education. When you can help someone else you will grow. Deal?
Wow!! Thanks Dan!! Great debrief.. I will save these comments and review them before my next flight. I'll see if I can redo the flight soon!!
Fuck ATP but willow run controllers are chill af
I have no experience with ATP, all my training was at Crosswinds Aviation, they are the best. Yes, the controllers at KYIP are very accommodating and easy to work with.
Enjoyed the video. Music was a nice touch. Assume your longer GoPro videos are segmented when you download to your computer. What software do you use to stitch the clips together? Is this the same software you use to edit your videos?
Thanks for watching! Yes, I just take videos off the micro sd card and I use Shotcut free video editor. It does it all and it's free. Lot's of video's on how to use it are available. Good luck!
Classy
First time I've used music, near the end of the video.. does anyone like it?
Anyone else annoyed that this guy tries to out think the instructor???
Thanks for your comment! This instructor is extremely competent, especially at teaching in the DA20 aircraft.
Watched the whole flight and still missed the $300 cheese burger.
It was an excellent burger at The Apron, but I forgot to take a pic of it.
7/27 evening I see on flight radar you over Detroit. Today I randomly find this video. I learned to fly at city airport in 85. KONZ we’d stop and get pizza 😅Worked many years on River. Thanks for posting the video.
Cool! Thanks for your comment, cool that u saw the flight, then saw the video!
What is your setup for video recording? unit and mount? thank you
Just a Gopro Hero9 with a ceiling mount. Audio captured with an "NFlight" audio adapter cable. Super easy setup.
@@pilotaj Very cool Thank you. Just starting my journey at KOZW and just found your channel and enjoy the videos. I'll be in a DA40. Should help just getting more familiar with the airplane and airports.
@@MadFabLabUSA I love the DA40...I trained in the DA20..they both fly the same!! I also fly the Cessna 172 as a member of Michigan Flyers at KARB. Let me know if you have any questions! Enjoy the journey! Just got my PPL Sept. 2023.
@@pilotaj Very cool I appreciate it. Congrats and keep the videos coming.
Did the same thing with a 20 knot xwind to 6L at DAB
Great video! How are you liking Crosswinds?
Love them!
As someone who plans to yake up flying soon, this is really cool to watch 😎
Don't you need full stop landings for PPL requirement?
Yes, did that on other flights.
Hi AJ. I want to begin shooting video with me go pro. What power source were you using in the DA40? Also what audio cable? Thanks for your help.
Gopro has a battery for power. Audio cable is the NFlight audio cable. Has second port for power if you want, but I never needed it.
getting ready to do my solo XC this week! this was very helpful thank you 🎉
That’s ok I guess. But next time you should take up some big ol’ hippopotamus lesbian with a sloppy beef fart problem. More interesting video…
Awesome ... after how many hours did you get your first solo ?
I believe it was at 31 hours....should've done it at about 20 hours but my landing proficiency wasn't up to snuff. Once I learned to relax completely during roundout and flare my landings got much better!
@@pilotaj Sounds good ! I'm student at crosswind aviation (flint) but now I change to Pontiac location what about the stalls did you feel hard ?
@@housseinayash1649 No, stalls are easy. Just memorize how to set them up - power off: -configure for landing, power on: -configure for takeoff. Don't be afraid to go to full break after buffeting, your CFI will show you they are simple. Just relax.
Enjoy your videos. Been working on getting current and getting checked out in DA40. Been ~ 30yrs. Couple questions: How are you mounting your gopro in the Diamond? Do you use an iPad mini? See on your latest video you joined flight club. Do they have a wait list?
Thanks for watching! Please subscribe!! Most planes have a GoPro mount on the ceiling of the plane. If not, they are self stick..just put one on. Yes, I am using Ipad mini with a "Pivot Case." It works really well. My flying club (Michigan Flyers) does not have a wait list that I'm aware of at this time. Thanks again!
Loved your video - brought back so many memories! As a 17-year old kid in 1974, I took all my flying licenses at Pontiac Flight Services at PTK, and flew my solo there! My flight was from 27R and I flew my pattern on the north end of the field, but otherwise, it all looked the same! Thanks for letting me relive that memory with modern technology!
Awesome! So glad you enjoyed it. More to come soon!
Hey what DPE did you do your checkride with?
Dan Unger, he was excellent. Just practice your maneuvers especially soft field landing on the numbers and you'll be fine.
Did my instrument in that plane cool to see another renters perspective
Thx! Its a great plane.
Good video. I would suggest a Carbon Monoxide detector versus the throw aways that you have. I have an Aitre in my Cherokee. Works great.
Thanks! I will look that one up.
@@pilotajYeah , well worth the $150. Good for 10 years plus.
Impressive. I could never do it. I have enough trouble trying to sail a boat.
Too cool! You sound like you know what your doing👍
Thanks - I try to be professional when I'm talking to air traffic control.
Merry Christmas! Love the calfskin on the seat!
It's a very comfortable ride.
Amazing flight ! Got to see the flight following and radio calls in action- I'm working on my ppl and I'm slowly getting into the cross countries. Love your videos keep them comin!
Glad you enjoyed it! ATC seems hard at first, but once it clicks it will be easy for you!
Hey. I am also flying at the same airport, student pilot. How did you mount your GoPro ? What did you use for audio recording ? I assume you are training at Crosswinds Aviation ?
Hi.. most of the CW planes have GoPro mounts in them. Then just use an "NFlight" adapter between your headset and your Gopro. Super easy!
@@pilotaj Thank you. I am flying DCT Aviation planes. I don't think they have any mounts. I'll have to think of something.

Awesome! Thanks Tim.
The DA40 is such a nice aircraft to fly.
Yes, it is. Just wish it was a little cheaper to rent!

Yes, maybe holding nose off a little longer will help.

How do you record the audio?
It's called "NFlightcam" audio adapter. Just plug your headset audio cable into it, then plug it in to the jack. Very easy.
You see blue power thru see brown power down👍🏼
Looks like 45G to me
