Hello and howdy everyone! I'm probably new at this particular instrument! Although I am a tad offbeat, because (my parents and I) only listen to the straightforward classical music genre, which would feel somewhat unparalleled for this instrument. Henceforth, for years, as a youngster [I watched ACL when country music was relatively en vogue, before the '90s, which emerged that 'crazed' alternative rock genres]. Although I stumbled by thoroughly listen on the stations, a Dobro being played on the newscast radio, A Prarie Home Companion on NPR, featuring guest artist: Bonnie Raitt--a legendary tingling yet singing powerhouse blues fanatic, no doubt, indeed! Furthermore, this styling is quite awesome, but again-- albeit--still, I have no experience in playing it, but I enjoy listening to it! Thanks for describing the instrument: history, discovery, invention, and improvisation!! 📚🎸📖
How can you tell if it is a good doebro
what’s left of the world is quite beautiful
10 years old 1976, I was out in the country collecting soda bottles at 10 cents a piece, to return to the local country store . I was in the store returning bottles to buy coke , candy , and a comic book , about $1-2 . I had $2-3 in bottle money. Old black man drifter was in the store, never had seen him before , asked if I/we could buy him a drink , for a song, it was Summer in Mississippi. I bought the guy a quart of beer for 50-75 cents. We went behind the store where he had his "luggage" , and he got out a dobro and played it on slide, and proceeded to belt out a few obscure blues songs. 🤔😎🙂 We/me left that day, but that guy came back at least once to that small store over the next year. And it was the same thing. Buy dude a beer/wine and listen to killer blues , at 3 ' away. 😎 I fully believe "Curtis Lowe " like in the Lynyrd Snynrd song , never died, I met/saw/heard him 20 years later, after "They chucked him in the grave". Much respect to Lynyrd Synyrd for singing about a traveling spirit I met as well , and making a gorgeous song of it and his slide Dobro guitar. I saw, been in presence of the dude and heard him play guitar and sing twice, out beside the back wall of a country store. And like "Forrest Gump" , "And that is all I can say about a Dubro and slide guitar". Or you to me. LOL 😎. Resonating guitars are visually striking besides acoustically. "Play me song Curtis Lowe, I got your drinkin' money , tune up you Dobro"" 🙂
Wow, that is an incredible story! Thank you for sharing.
Steel ? I learned something! I though the necks were Steel on electric steel?
You got it! That is a common misconception!
Jenkins Pass
Love your tone Tommy! Sounds like single coils in th RP. So rich sounding

Great video! The choices look amazing 😊
I still miss John Hughey.
I just ate there it's a wonderful place with wonderful twin peaks 😂
Swetts used to be good but now there a typical tourist trap place that is now way over priced and really not that good.
Agreed!

They allow you to take horses on the beach. I took my 2 horse magnum and sassy.

Sounds like a banjo to me.
Yes! It does have a sound kin to banjo!
Thank you so much for the video. And especially for focusing in on the historical markers. Easy to pause and read them. I learned a lot that I never knew. I'm a 48-year-old trucker, and I remember the day in 2003 when I heard on the radio that Johnny Cash had died. My heart broke that day. God bless y'all, and thanks so much again for doing this. Very insightful. If I ever retire, I'd love to visit Hendersonville.
Thank you!
That guitar neck is wider than my bed😅
Like the mighty Mississippi !😂
its been a while since we have commented but great video good to see yall again
Welcome back!
Miss you guys
Thank you Ron, we miss all you guys! Hopefully we will get back at it soon!
Thought the State Fair was in Nashville where Fan Fair 1986 was held. Now, I'll get back to the video. I remember me and my friend LeAnn getting stopped right at the top of the double ferris wheel at the Oklahoma State Fair when we were still in Fillmore Elementary School back in the late 70's. I didn't like that. Really enjoyed your video.
That is where it used to be. Thank you for watching Carla! Ohhh no, not a double farris wheel for me!!!
@@TMeAdventures you're welcome!
Good to see you guys. By the way, that is a pig. Smooches
Oh one of these days I will get to visit the State Fair ! It looks So fun 🤩 thanks for sharing !

Thank you so much! 😊😊😊
What type of dobro is that
Regal black walnut with Quarterman sound cone. It is not a laminated / plywood guitar. It is true solid walnut top, back and sides. My favorite guitar! Thank you for asking!😊
How rude I work at carrabba’s and idk why u are talking cuz it’s saucy maybe your to old to taste food😅
Well, can’t argue with that. Only problem is, it was so dry , my false teeth got stuck in it and fell out. 😂
@@TMeAdventures sorry 😞
😋😋😋
Miss John Hughey
John was a great C 6 player but was made famous from his E9th playing.
Hi there guys
I didn't breathe properly at birth and got some brain damage which I still live with today. I love music 🎶 but the only thing I managed to play was the Harmonica which the Doctor recommended for my breathing. I played it until I was 50 and people said I was as good as some pros! I bought ALL of Charlie McCoys recordings. (Not good as him) I was invited to play at a Church Revival and when we ate some snacks a fellow with MS sat across from me. He asked me if I played any other instruments. He played the Dobro but he said his health is getting worse and was selling his instruments. He said I'm asking $300 for my Dobro. I told him I can't play a stringed 🪕 instrument. I'm unable to move my left hand fingers independently. He said this is just what you need as you fret with a metal bar! After the show he gave me ONE lesson on where the cords are. I got some advice from other players for six months until i felt confident to play. I'm 79 now and I figured out how to string a Banjo and Steel 🎸 Guitar so I could fretbar it. I play at Churches - Care homes and Senior Centers. All because a person worse than me told me not to give up! I'm sure he's dead now but his don't quit attitude still lives in me!! To see old people get up out of their wheelchairs and shuffle their feet and come tell me they enjoyed our music and come back is something 💰 can't buy!
Jerry Douglas can flat play this monster!
You bet he can! 👍🏻
It hasn’t been called a dobro since the Dopera brothers…
Well , around these parts folks still call it dobro.😊
I should be in the musicians hall of fame
Probably so.
Unfortunately, there are no good Indian restaurants in Nashville. A few places do one or two things ok, that's about it. Bombay Palace isn't one of them and looks like they add food coloring. If you ever get the opportunity, try South Asian food in Queens, NYC. It's authentic there. When you can create synergy between that many ingredients, it's epic.
We would love to visit Queens and NYC. It’s on our bucket list!
Greetings from ireland great appreciation here of mae love hoyts music,we love our culture here too best wishes
Thank you so much !😊
Much appreciated. Thank you for bringing this to us.
Glad you enjoyed it!
