Hey viewers! Welcome to ”i want to be a pirate”. This is my channel where my main focus will be Monkey Island. With the "Return of Monkey Island" announced by Ron Gilbert recently and with the renewed interest in the franchise (for a new generation) I will be geeking out and reporting on news and doing walk throughs of past and present games.

I appreciate having this long form video available for Monkey Island tunes but FYI there’s quite a few non-soundtrack tracks and the timestamps are way off.
Thanks for the feedback, i havent been on the channel so much but ill take a look and maybe can do a new version in the future :-) Will check the timestamps.. And will be looking to create some new content for the latest installment..
Where is the location at 19:00?
This was a concept art from the waterfall, north west on Phatt island. Originally the Waterfall tunnel was designed as a bird's eye view of a long metallic corridor, ramp, and stairs that traverse a cavern; small pipes and big tubes go in and out the cavern wall, all around the pathway, obviously part of the pump mechanism that trigger it. For the finished game it was replaced by a brief screen that looks like a modern-looking corridor with electric lights. Reasons why this background was rejected would be production time or memory constraints, or that the screen would be too long for the player to navigate, without offering something to the plot :-)

Really great seeing all the concept art. Wish they had used high rez scans of that for the remaster.
Lots of retcon here - SOMI was not loads of thrash guitars.
It is important to mention, that this is actually the full OST as one whole video, but without any overlapping voices or disturbing soundeffects in the background...very pure. Bravo! Very recommended.

That artstyle and cheap flash animations are AWFUL. What the hell happened to Monkey Island? So sad. And why does Guybrush have a penis instead of a nose?
6:45 seriously?? George Lucas go "make him look funnier", and he's single handedly responsible for the huge success (what success?) that came after? So the first 2 games have no merits and Ron Gilbert's writing wasn't funny, and made no contribution? Mesa thinka idea no buena!
I took it more that George’s comments influenced the character which i think does factor in to it as Guybrush has a major impact in the series and his outlook on life/humour.. but Monkey Islands fandom is a combination of everything, puzzles, art, story, characters etc

Grew up on monkey island, I love it.. which pains me to criticize this… but it looks like a little kids cartoon show. Background is great, but characters look and move like something out of nick jr. studios

I have NOT been waiting 30 years for this. No matter how good the story might be, I HOPE the graphics shown in the trailers are a messed up joke. If not, they alone will kill the whole series. I found the gfx of Escape from Monkey Island horrible, but they look really good compared to this "avantgarde artschool project"... If this is what it will look like then, NO! I won't play it and spoil all of the anticipation and hope I've held for the "REAL" Monkey Island 3 for so many years. Cudos to Ron for finally giving us some sort of conclusion, but man... I'm torn.
You expressed so well... Same feeling, but i will still play it, to support the work of love, I think he might know by now that it wasn't the best of his decisions... Still have time to improve animations, facial expressions, and clean-up some messy layouts... The childish style must not be appealing but the worst part is the poor finishing, I still hope it was a rushed trailer, the red guybrush and the hitting rocks animations are just a joke.
Yeah i understand the reaction, its been a long time coming with lots of hype.. Its definitely a new direction but its growing on me.. i know with all the MI games the story, puzzles and characters (and dialogue) have always been the best parts so i think the graphics will grow on people.. id say give it a chance definitley, i have faith in Ron 😃

Yeah i get the impression sometimes that he is reluctant to embrace the fact a lot of people are nostalgic towards monkey island and trying to move way from the ‘retro’ angle.. i just hope he finds a good balance between moving forward and providing some fan service 🙏
"Guybrush" also came from the fact they originally intended to make male (guy) and female (gal/girl) lead characters
